Always important to strengthen the defence first. Good signing for the Jambos.

Berra's wanted up the road since last year and handed himself to Hearts of a plate.  Hardly, sorry - wonderful strategic planning from Cathro and Macphee.  Exciting times to be a jambo :)

Gamble in what sense? He's fit as a fiddle, never had any serious injuries and will only be 35 at the end of the deal, hardly over the hill.

Is it any less of a gamble than handing McGregor a two year deal? He has had two massive injuries and is only 6 months younger.

It will be very good money to a player who at times looked past it down South over a 3 year period.

Hear you boys boys are in talks with Whittaker too.

You must be very busy keeping tabs on Hibs, Hearts and Ipswich Town.

More seriously

If Levein was planning on bringing in Berra in the summer it would go some way explain the somewhat makeshift rebuilding of the defence in January

And looking at the stats on tranfermarkt Berra has been absolutely solid for Ipswich
He's missed 11 hours and fourty two minutes out of 270 hours of championship football since making his first start for ipswich
He's only missed 7 games in 180 and that includes two suspensions and has never been out for two matches in a row

Any player is a gamble

But I like these odds

True, one of them was an aging injured cart horse who got a new deal and another was another's player who rejected one though.  Berra and Souttar sound a good pair though.

He would absolutely piss it at this shan level. He will have a tough job cleaning up after Levein's predictably awful full backs next season, whoever they might be.

That's what was said about Hughes and the other pish brought in January.

How do you work that one out?

You must have watched a fair bit of Ipswich to form such a strong opinion on Berra, you are all over every Hearts thread and I assume you also follow Hibs.

Souttar can get GTF. I want a back four of Berra, Hughes, Whittaker and Danny McGrain next season.

Dad's Army would be a fitting moniker in remembrance of Hearts' proud forces legacy, IMO.
