The Famous Aberdeen - Season 2022/23

I'd be happy with something like this for the summer activity.

Current Squad:

Scott Wright - needs to go out on a season long loan somewhere he'll pick up 30 games next season so probably the Championship (Partick Thistle, Loan)

Greg Tansey - presume we'll try to flog him to another top flight club or loan him back to County/Caley (St Mirren, Free)

Signings:

Lewis Ferguson (Hamilton, £100k) - cover for central midfield

Dylan McGeouch (Hibs, Free) - very ambitious but we are in desperate need of a first pick for central midfield so as you'd expect we are trying to push the boat out

Jonny Hayes (Celtic, Loan) - McInnes will go back for players he trusts time and time again. I'd suggest an interesting shout to come back as left back but obviously covering wing and midfield positions too. Likely to be well out of picture at Celtic with Morgan and Christie ahead of him let alone the current squad and new signings

Ryan Gauld (Sporting, Loan) - Has struggled for games since moving to Portugal so not unrealistic at the moment. High wage makes a permanent transfer unlikely

Ross Wallace (Sheff Wed, Free) - Need more cover in midfield and another experinced head would be welcome

Jason Naismith (Ross County, £150k) - Cover required for right back and right centre half so fits the bill. May even oust Logan as first pick freeing Logan up to cover midfield occasionally.

Lewis

Naismith Devlin McKenna Hayes

McGeouch Shinnie

Wallace Gauld Mackay-Steven

May

subs: Rogers, Logan, Considine, Ferguson, Rooney, Cosgrove, McGinn

squad: Reynolds, Ross, Campbell, Anderson

Doug and Andy would make a decent centre back pairing.

Don't think Mrs Considine will be up to the required standard between the sticks mind...

Don't worry. The bench of Considine, Considine, Considine, Considine, Considine, Considine and Shin Considine has us covered rotation-wise.

Some might go as far as saying it is the most plausible line-up for next season posted so far.

Typical Aberdonian negativity.  Get a grip.

How does seeding work for the Europa league? Are both the coefficient of the league and recent club performance taking into account or just the former? I've noticed Aberdeen aren't seeded but Burnley are.

This is how they do the calculation: https://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/calc.html

The recent change, whatever the logic, has served to completely shaft AFC.

Last season we were half way up the list of seeded clubs in QR2 - having previously been unseeded at that stage, but building up some 'credit in the bank' due to successive seasons reaching QR3.

Now, despite another season reaching QR3, we find ourselves unseeded in QR2, and way down the list with little prospect of that changing.

What is more galling is that Sevco (who's whole European history is their tie with Progres Niedercorn) and Hibernian (with two defeats against Malmo and Brondby as their only recent history) are effectively ranked almost the same as us now. Last season we were almost double Sevco's ranking.

AFC's players may enjoy their extended break - but I still think coming through 180mins in QR1 (rather than friendlies against Inverurie and St Johnstone) is the ideal preparation for QR2 and a big part of the reason we beat Groningen and Rijeka - so therefore don't have a particular good feeling about our prospects right now, especially given it'll likely be a 50% brand new team that we field.   Remember Sigma Olomouc?
