I bought an acoustic 12 string ovation from that shop. It's some size of place!

Nice guitar [emoji1360]
I remember this store before it relocated ☹️it was on 48th between 6th & 7th Ave. but my favourite guitar store closed its doors in 2009. Manny's music which was also on 48th street.

Love my music love my visits to New York.

Theres a really really cool guitar shop on Bleeker street, loads of vintage gibsons and fender strats from the 60's its just wall to wall guitar porn.

That will be Matt's guitars. Down in Greenwich Village. Yeah had my time down there too. [emoji23]
Fortunately my wife indulges my passion for music. Especially guitars [emoji450]

On a side note. When to see Richard Thompson in Carnegie hall on 7th Ave. March 2011, I paid $32 dollars for two tickets [emoji6]
And it was an amazing night.

We are going back across the pond in September. Again I'm so looking forward to our time in New York [emoji1360][emoji41]

Some pretty cool record shops in and around there too.
Being a baseball fan I loved going to Yankee stadium and have heard citi field is a great day out too, would have liked to see one of the minor league teams play.
For anyone going to New York, if youre only there for a few days then please don't waste one going to the outlets.
I'm also not a big fan of wasting loads of time queuing for the tckts booth etc, go out of season, midweek etc and you'll be able to get deals from the show box office.

I write this at least once a week on this thread but if you leave it until an hour or less before the show starts there is no queue at TKTS.

Booked up again! December for a few days. Can't wait to see it all Christmassy. Got a great deal, flights and 4 nights for £600pp at probably the most expensive time of the year. Time to start planning the itinerary.

Macy's (might be an e in there somewhere) on Christmas Eve is nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Very manageable. Central Park on any day at that time of year is beautiful. For me though, the best thing was an accidental wee Irish bar for late lunch on Christmas Eve. The atmosphere was just brilliant, really really friendly. A genuine new york moment. Don't pack the itinerary too much - new york's best bits happen every day in every wee nook and cranny (usually just off the beaten stretch). Have fun!

3 weeks until me and the Mrs off again. Heading for a week this time. Staying up by central park this time.

Well familiar with everything from CP south but never ventured north of the park before is it worth it/safe? University looks nice enough for a wander. I see you can do bus tours of the Bronx which on the one hand I guess you can do anywhere but on the other hand seems slightly poverty porn/racist. Anyone done it?

No plans as such other than one NFL and one NHL game so I think any more sport would be pushing it.

I was in The Bronx over the summer with the missus, checking out the Dale Chihuly exhibition that was going on at the New York Botanical Garden (it's finishes at the end of October and I'd definitely recommend it). We went for a wander around afterwards and felt perfectly safe. Got a great curry on 235th Street and Katonah and then restocked on Irn Bru from the Irish Deli across the street. It's been gentrified over the years and isn't anything like its 1980/90s reputation would have you believe. Bronx Zoo was pretty good too but we were rushed as we'd spent so long in the NYBG. Of course, I wouldn't recommend wandering around dark alleys at 1am whilst drunk and flashing your traveler's checks, but I didn't feel any less safe there than I do in Manhattan.

Never had a problem feeling uncomfortable or unsafe in Harlem / Upper Manhattan.

Plenty of homeless people all over the states in even richer cities/neighbourhoods, just look at LA and Vegas etc.

To be honest, if you're going to be homeless then you might as well do it in a good neighbourhood!

Just back from a week in NY on Friday, eighth visit and don't think I've seen everything yet!

Great weather, temperature still in the 80s the first few days I was there, but fell to the high 60s/low 70s later on.

Went to a couple of shows, tried the tip a few pages back about going to the Times Square ticket booth late on and went at six o'clock one night and got really good seats for Charlie and Chocolate Factory at half price, a really good show, better than I was expecting. Also saw The Play That Goes Wrong, excellent comedy.

Went over to Brooklyn one day but didn't go too far in (!) and walked back over the Brooklyn Bridge, and took a train along the Hudson Valley another day, most of the trees were still green so probably a couple of weeks too early to the see the autumn colours in full effect.

Security also seems to have been tightened in the last 12 months since I was last there, was at the Colombus Day parade down Fifth Avenue on Monday, and at several blocks there were massive Sanitation Department trucks loaded with sand to block anyone trying to drive into the parade, all the other blocks also had cars or other temporary obstacles blocking the streets, bags searched going into museums and the like, even had to pass a metal detector test when I went to NY Red Bulls against Vancouver Whitecaps, if you don't have a backpack or similar then you get through the queues a bit quicker. Massive concrete blocks all around the block that Trump Towers is on on Fifth Avenue and also high security at his hotel at Columbus Circle.

Had the delights on Fox News on the hotel TV, they're barking mad. Katie Hopkins was their guest one night and she was being presented as the rational voice of most people in the UK!

New York is great apart from the horrible weather.
The worst day in California is the best day in New York.

I have been NY the past week and it has ranged from perfect sunny autumn days and up to 28° on others.

You couldn't go outside in California due to smoke and ash from wildfires.
