Was that not in the hanger section? I thought it was a platform used for bringing fighters up for launch but wasn’t paying a great deal of attention.

It may well have been. I just seemed to miss whatever he was on so it didn't make much sense.

One odd thing. When Captain Phasma seemed to (quite clearly) knock Finn off a ledge he then seemed to rise back up as though on a floating platform or something but it never zoomed out to show you. I know the ship was falling apart at that point but it seemed both unnatural and unexplained unless I missed something.

I completely forgot that Phasma was in the film.

It definitely was such a platform. Not sure why there's any confusion over it.

So did the director.

Also, it’s pretty much a throwaway line, and a minor spoiler so don’t read if you haven’t seen it yet.....(can’t put spoilers on my phone I don’t think)

Minor spoiler..........

Admiral Ackbar! emoji22.png

End of minor spoiler.

War Hero for the Resistance movement.  Commander at the Battle of Endor.  Not even a mention of the loss.  Sickening!

Feel sorry for Gwendoline Christie.  Thought they would let her take the helmet off once.  Maybe she is not dead, she survived being trapped in a garbage compacter on an exploding planet, so there is still a chance.

Except when Admiral Holdo says that he was killed, mentioned him specifically by name.

Oh well missed that.  No candle lit vigil though, no place on a war memorial.

Was so tearing up with the loss of Ackbar I missed the Adrian Edmondson cameo.

There should be a huge statue of Ackbar erected. To ensure it isn't unduly damaged by the weather they could cover it up...

It's a tarp!

No reason Ackbar couldn't have been put in the Holdo role at the end and gone out in glorious fashion. Would have teared up at that.

Eta - I wonder if Nien Nunb will fare any better. He blew up the second death star. He should be treated like a hero. Speaking of second death star - has Lando even been mentioned in the new trilogy? I would have thought a throwaway line might have been included to explain his absence. I was convinced we would at least see a cameo from him at the casino and partly thought he might have been the code breaker they were talking about

The man responsible for the greatest line in Star Wars history is no more. An utter travesty that he goes the way he did, why not give him the send off he deserved instead of the no mark Holdo.

ETA... the more I think about it, the more raging I actually am. Admiral Ackbar was an absolute boy, but gets barely a mention.

Until Admiral Ackbar was namechecked, i thought it was just a random character  of the same species filling out the background.

So you're saying all Mon Calamari look the same?

Sepinwall makes a good argument for rationalising Rian Johnson's vision for the film. Taking a couple of days to mull it over, I really did find the visuals behind it as good as I've seen. I love the idea that Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux cameo) from the Leftovers (if you haven't watched it yet, seriously you are missing out) is in one his "Hotel" scenes and the casino is where it took him.

I disagree with him in some parts, but maybe I do feel like (I'm as guilty as it comes with this) we're all falling into the "everybody's a reactive critic" terrority judging by everyone's thoughts on the film, picking more holes rather than thinking about the things I really enjoyed. I'm still not keen on the 'Disney jokes to release the tension' element of it, but I'm probably kidding myself when I said it was too long for me personally, because the film could have a been 6 hours and I still would have been grateful for MOAR Star Wars.
