NFL General Discussion

I don't think they get that the NFL don't need the same amount of proof as the legal system to ban someone.  They just need enough that the player has brought the company into disripute.
Elliot should count himself lucky that there was only 1 charge when it should have been three.

Exactly this.
For a similar case in football, see John Terry's racism case. Found not guilty in court, but guilty by the FA.

So, a player who has not been arrested or charged, never mind found guilty of any offence, can be banned by the league for accusations.Elliot may be a twat, but this sets a dangerous precedence.

Yes, the precedent is clearly that if you are a violent wife/girlfriend beater then you will get a suspension after a full and proper investigation has been conducted by the NFL in accordance with their Personal Conduct policy.

And yet no jail time,as I said,strange.

Breaching the Personal Conduct policy does neither requires nor will result in jail time. The two things are not comparable.

If,as you put it,he is a violent wife/girlfriend beater, then surely the law enforcement agencies will attempt to convict him of this, and not leave it to his employers to carry out any punishment he deserves.Breaching the Personal Conduct policy,by being a violent wife/girlfriend beater surely breaks the law as well, even in America.

I know you're not this stupid. Stop being such a homer.

Criminal investigations are based on the 'beyond all reasonable doubt' standard. Civil and, indeed, disputes like the NFL one are based on 'the balance of probability'.

So they are completely different. Criminal charges require far more evidence.

The lead NFL investigator for Elliot's case says he didn't believe the woman. The head of the NFL's investigation unit said that she found the woman less than credible in one of their multiple interviews. The final report given by the NFL's investigative unit to Goodell did not include a recommendation regarding punishment, which is highly unusual according to sources. The police found no reason for a charge.

Yes, it's in the interests of the NFL to not be seen as a league of "thugs." The post-Jordan NBA and their successful proactive steps to counter that image shows that clearly enough. The problem is that the NFL is alienating their players and owners with their steps. And their steps are designed to mollify activists rather than aimed at their actual fans or the general public.

Kam Chancellor out for the season. Fark, that could be the Seahawks out of it now.

You’re never out of it with Russell Wilson throwing fourth quarter jump balls that seem to never hit the fucking ground. That game you stole in LA is shaping up to be a huge moment in this season.

True but the injuries keep mounting up. Even if they make the playoffs I can't see them getting far.

If you make the playoffs at the expense of the rams and then proceed to embarrass our division I will not be pleased.

You know what, I am starting to believe that the Curse of the Redskins is true.  Our 3rd place schedule is the toughest schedule in the NFL, have a competative 53 at the start of the season but now can't dress 46 players.

The O-line is walking wounded, with two of the back ups now missing weeks.  Starting ILB hits IR, two weeks later his back up hits IR.

At one point last week 21 of the active players were on the unable to train list
