Sons' sorrow

We don't need a striker. Thommo, Nade, Fleming and Vaughan is plenty. Remains to be seen if Todd leaves too, if he stays thats another option up there. Defence and midfield is required, I get the feeling Grant Gallagher could be out for a while, he's been to a specialist twice now and no word on when he'll be back. Just hope Aldo isn't too badly hurt.

Can't say I'd be too thrilled about Todd as a striker. He doesn't seem to be able to convert when chances come his way, or tends to pass the buck.

Aye, I agree, but it's fairly unlikely that the 4 options we have before him won't be available. My point was that trying to sign Andy Little would be fairly crazy given the forward options we have.

Based on what Andy Little said yesterday (he had spoken with BOTH the part time teams in the Championship and would decide this week which one to sign for) then we're definitely considering him.

It could be one of those situations where his availability has came out of the blue and it's too good an opportunity to pass up for Stevie. Little is only 27 and wants to put himself in the shop window "at a club near Glasgow" with a view to securing full time football next season.

Little isn't a bad player, and his versatility could be very handy, but my major worry is his fitness. He's been out the game for over a year now and admitted himself on Sportsound that it would take him a while to get into the right condition to last 90 minutes.

In saying that if he's available for not a lot of money, and if Todd is to leave, then I wouldn't be averse to us taking a punt on him. I'd imagine he'll end up at Ayr though.

We absolutely do not need Little unless he'll be playing defensively.

I'm not actually convinced he's that good anyway. Other than a great season in League 2, at a team who was creating a mass amount of chances per match, he's not got that great a record.

It's not like it's far too good an opportunity to pass up or anything like that.

He's certainly versatile. His Wiki page suggests he can play in defence, midfield or as a striker. Fitness would undoubtedly be an issue (he was released from the English Championship in May 2016) but perhaps a pay as you play basis.

Like you, I got the impression he would end up at Ayr.

That will not happen now that major players are on the scene with the stadium move.It has already been well discussed what might happen if the move gets the green light. But for the meantime we can just hope that we stay up.

Happy New Year by the way to all Sons fans on here....

HNY to you too.

Can you tell us, very specifically, who these 'major players who are now on the scene' are?

Yes, it would seem a risk to gamble what little budget we have by bringing in another forward who has fitness/injury concerns, when we know that Nade is prone to missing games too.

It's a total no brainier if Little has offers from both Sons and Ayr then surely his best option would be an Ayr team with no strikers but plenty of attacking midfielders to create chances. Dumbarton on the other hand need defenders.

And the fact were a much bigger club?

Little can also play wide right. Maybe an option to have him playing out wide?

I'm quite happy with the work Thommo and Stirling are doing out there, he might be fine as back up but with his injury problems (which he says himself are a big problem for him) then I'd rather we passed up on that risk. There also seems to be an assumption that Little is good enough for this level but I'm not seeing a great amount of evidence for that.

Defence and centre midfield seem to be the areas we need most, if we can sign a defender it gives us the option of moving Davie Smith up the park if we're short in the wide areas, or playing Garry or Stanton out there.

You'll need better bait than that.
