Walking Down The Halbeath Road

What's the deal with Fordyce not being in the squad last couple of games? AJ hasn't mentioned that he's been injured (only Williamson and BRE out for the first game, then Geggan as well for the replay).

Thought it was harsh that he was dropped in the first place, never mind not even making the bench.

Yes I do rant during and straight after games and if it annoys anyone then I apologise. I'd much rather be honest and true than wait until the game is well over, scan over the posts and just kick anyone losing an argument. That is totally the sum total of several arsehole posters on dot net who need to be sorted out by admin but won't be as they'd are friendly with them. It was this that nearly cost us our club and it's still continuing. I can be negative but I do believe in being accountable for what you said and bringing it up if proved right. Not being allowed to or mocked by for it is the sign of being completely in the wrong or insecure.

If you want to see people becoming irritating then look no further than dano1 on dot net, 99% of his posts are just attacks on anyone who doesn't love everything about the club and the players even through terrible times.

Morton might have scored in free play. They were pressing hard.

We need to stop looking for excuses. We had another thirty minutes plus the penalty shootout to put things right

You just don't ever let up do you? Have a day off.

Well spotted wee eck.

Better than da_no_1, who is more intent on putting down anything I have to say.

It's maybe an age thing but I had just been talking to a Morton fan and my mind was stuck at Cappielow.

As for taking a day off, try a year off da_no_1 and get a life instead of looking for an argument all the time.

Pots and kettles mate.

Your last post telling everyone to "stop looking for excuses" is typical of your patronising "I know more than you" tone.....give it a rest man.

Fact is that was NEVER a penalty in a million years.

The constant negativity on this forum really is quite depressing. The change in tone on the match thread makes for interesting reading. Optimism before kick off....joy at the goal......willing the ref to blow for FT......despair at the penalty..... then pure hatred at FT.

Frightening stuff.

You do that, mate. Go and hang out with the team at training instead and tell them how brilliant they all are.

No can do I'm afraid. Got a job and a life... .

I see the SPFA are trying to put in a new rule to make matches more attractive, with the possibility of more goals.  It's going to be called " Three Corners a Penalty ".  I think it would be good for Scottish Football how do you lot fancy it. [emoji14][emoji6][emoji4]

I'd rather have a corner than a penalty tbf.

Surely from a Pars point of view the objective would be to stay in this league (preferably with quite a bit to spare), consolidate, and have a tilt at the playoffs next season?

We spent 4/5 years in the seaside leagues after the Anelka debacle, and that first season back is a culture shock.  As long as you stay in this league with some kind of sign of progress then that's the main thing I guess??

That was my aim from the very start. I actually thought we'd have done a little worse than we have. Anything other than staying in the division is a bonus.

Last season was so much more straightforward that the previous ones that I'm happy to cut AJ slack if he keeps us up. I'd question his signings though as guys like Fordyce and Talbot were previously scrapping at the botttom of the league with Livi. Moffat showed in the cup games that he's a nervous wreck in front if goal in big games. McCabe hadn't exactly stood out. Lots of League One/bottom of the championship players seemed at odds with talk of a play off challenge. Gavin Reilly. Hopefully after our run of games against the league's good teams we can get back to our specialist subject - pumping diddies.

There seems to be a bit of a debate about what our manager said at the start of the season. As far as I can remember he said we should be aiming for the promotion play-offs - I must admit I thought that was ambitious but I didn't hear the conversation & maybe he was asked a loaded question? Either way, I'm sure most Pars fans will be content with 8th place (or higher) & consolidation (as Raith have managed to do)

Like Shandon says some of the signings have been strange & have not all proved successful. McCabe & Spence for example were awarded deals pretty much immediately whereas it would appear others were strung along a bit. Fordyce was always going to be given a deal to give him a chance to prove he was fit as we all agreed he was a good player before his injury last season. Higgy & Clark looked like good signings at the time but neither has quite stood out for me. Wee McMullan looks promising but it took about 3 months (and a drop in Cardles form) for him to be given a run in the team.

We don't play this weekend & our next 2 are Hibs & Morton away so by the time Dumbarton come to EEP we could quite easily be 2nd bottom again although we then have a run of games where we could take a few points. Might not be AJs signings but his reluctance to change formation & make substitutions that can affect a game may be our downfall..........

Its a weird league at the moment really.  When we came up and consolidated, there was no Falkirk, Hibs or Dundee Utd.  Thats the top 3 places usually taken care of before the season starts (granted Morton are having a great season).

Pars will be fine this season, but then there will be a bit of pressure on Johnston to deliver a bit more.

You did have Dundee, Inverness and Dunfermline though, while they're not as big as Utd and Hibs the first two are bigger than Falkirk while we were a pretty established top three team, as Falkirk are atm.

There should be a bit more pressure to achieve a bit more than finish eigth, realistically is he going to take us from that to playoffs? No chance, cut your losses and give the manager a summer to get his head around it.

What AJ said at the start of the season shouldn't really matter that much either way, managers should be talking up there chances, try to drum up a feel good factor to help drive up season ticket sales. The season we had Rangers in league 1 you had players saying they were going for the title, but it wasn't classed as a failure to finish second.

I genuinely don't get the thinking behind being content with 8th place, we'd be the worse performing full time side to have came up as champions ever, how can that be considered a success? This is totally his squad, everyone in it has either been signed by him or had an extension from him. He done fantastic last year so he had the advantage of having months to prepare for the step up, yet look at our start.

I can understand the financial reasons for not getting rid of him, I genuinely don't get why finishing 8th would be considered a success though.

What if we finished 8th but were only a handful of points behind 5th/6th? Is that a failure.

Or flip it, we finish 5th but are a couple of points ahead of 8th? That's a success?

Well FWIW I think there's a marked difference between contentment and being successful.

I've seen every team in this league at least once and Hibs apart none stick out as being vastly superior to us. Similarly the teams around us are all of a similar quality. So as far as league placings go there may not be a huge amount of points between 5th and 9th. It's only my view but I'd be happy with staying up and building for next season. Whether you like it or not (and clearly you dont) 8th in the Championship is progress from where we found ourselves 2 seasons ago.

There was 5 of us who knew it would take a great season to maybe finish top 3(see Morton) or and disastrous one to be relegation candidates(st mirren). Plodding along lower mid table is pretty much what was expected and seems to be what we are achieving. Can't moan too much, tho as said we should be looking for more next season.

It is yes, football is built on fine margins. In the end league positions are what defines everything come the season end.

Mid-table is right for me. It was my genuine expectation level pre-season and still where I think we'll end up.

We're two or three decent players away from climbing the table next season to a play off spot I'd think. Up front being an obvious weakness.

I'm not 100% convinced by our current management team and the potential for longevity regarding them remaining in their present position will depend on next season.

I thought last season even though AJ had a large budget he did fix all the problems and after losing our captain and right back he brought in some great players to replace them. We got better every week and you saw definite improvements in Faissal and others.

After winning the league we had a perfect and rare opportunity to try out backup players. Hopkirk, McCabe, Hutton and others we tried and didn't meet the standards of the players they replaced. Easy decision then?

I have no idea why they were signed up alongside BRE and Williamson. Fordyce was a risky one and if we were getting rid of Falkingham then keeping Geggan or McCabe especially seemed daft. Could it be that the entire squad was pretty much signed on already before the try out games? That doesn't make much sense but neither does AJ suddenly losing his touch of picking players.

To go into the season unprepared and with arguably a weaker side in certain areas was what started the doubts in my mind. It seems like we have been playing catchup ever since and we now have several players not up to standard despite talk of having a smaller quality squad and aiming for top four.

I don't see any depth in GK, RB, CM and a regular goalscorer and with the bog standard seemingly unchagable formation and tactics we could be in real trouble if we get injuries.

April is a huge month and I think we will stay up and finish fourth bottom after a few scares.

Sorry, I'm entirely content with mid table mediocrity this season. I like the style of football they are trying to play for the most part too. Attacking wide men makes for entertainment.

I don't think there has been a signing that anyone would have said "oh, no!" to either. When Reilly loan was announced I don't recall ANYONE say that would be anything other than a good acquisition - myself included.

We matched a premier side (albeit not full strength and a struggling one to boot) over two legs, so we're not far away from getting to where we want to be.

The reactionary stuff about the penalty "misses" (I prefer to call them saves) with so called fans on Facebook exclaiming their disgust is just nonsense. The vast majority never having had the pressure of taking a penalty worth, in essence, £150-200k. Does anyone really know how their nervous system would react to that pressure? Practicing pens would only go so far, and then the keeper can still get in the way.

The old cliche of concentrating on the league now comes into play, and every place better than 8th is a bonus.
