The General Ross County Chat Thread

Recommended Posts

Caley being honking and Boyce being on fire at times masked a lot of issues within the team and some truly bizarre signings (Gobern, for example). I don't think Roy trusted Jim with his cheque book in January again.

What are they expecting? Crazy decision.

Tactics. I've always felt that we should have some.

This has been a long time coming, absolutely clueless and has spent an absolute fortune to just keep throwing players out in a random selection until something got a result. He'd been marked for off since last season and was one game away from going, but luckily for him he scraped a few results together to see out the season.

Goodbye Jim and your Tactical Tombola. You will not be missed.

Surprised he's gone this early but relieved that it's happened sooner rather than later. Of course it's a "gamble", every time a team replaces a manager it's a "gamble".

McIntyre was in the job, what, three years? The League Cup win was incredible. Genuinely a tremendous achievement. But that's not a reason to keep him in charge. He didn't know what his best system or team was (like stretches of last season, and indeed, for half of his first season). The midfield was never properly fixed - Jackson Irvine's incredible work rate pretty much kept the whole thing together in the middle of the park, but then he left and was never replaced (and the system took forever to change). County leaked goals last season but that's not been fixed over the summer.

He brought in some real quality players: Davies, Irvine (although he was at the club on-loan before JM arrived), Schalk, Fraser, Naismith. But he signed a lot of absolute shit. Derek Adams levels of absolute shit. That first January transfer window was ludicrous. Abdoulaye Meite FFS. Terry Fucking Dunfield. Tim Fucking Chow. The money he must have pissed up the wall!

Last January was staggering. He spent months trying out a 4-4-2 without any natural wide players. Gets to January, signs a couple of wingers. Then goes 3-5-2 and plays Ryan Dow as a wing-back

Boyce bailed him out last season. And even then, McIntyre tried shoehorning him in as an attacking midfielder, to the detriment of Boyce and the team.

A lot of good memories but also a lot of dreadful memories. The football over the past few months has been piss poor. He could have gone months ago but managed to get a winning run going to finish 7th. JM was capable of putting this little winning runs together but he was equally adept at throwing together a run of defeats. The inconsistency in performances and results was so frustrating.

The Scottish football press will have a good whinge over the sacking but they don't know what they're talking about. A brief glance at the results and remembering back to that one time you watched County last season might leave you pondering how Uncle Roy could be so callous to sack the manager who brought the League Cup up the A9.  But it has been on the cards for some time. Was always a matter of "when" not "if".

Spot on.  I'll give Dunfield a pass (even though he couldn't) because that was the epitome of a desperation signing.

Yeah but Jim Delahunt says that you lot are idiots (not literally) for getting rid of him and he clearly knows what is going on.

Well known central belt manager goes to the highlands, wins the league cup, retains premier league status...and gets sacked along with his likeable, ex-Rangers, occasional media contributor assistant...

For the first time in a long time I can't fucking wait for Sportsound tonight....

Was away to come on this thread and ask for county fans opinion on the sacking and this post answered it before I had to.

Excellent summary.

Yoda nailed it.

Would add the treatment of some players (Boyd being the worst/best example), and the favouritism shown to certain players regardless of form and ability to play the role they were being shoe-horned into by the Jimbola.

Some saying it feels early, but it's been coming for over a year now.  Feels like a scratch that has finally been itched (maybe overly flippant analogy - essentially its something that's been nagging for a long time).

Further to yoda's excellent post, Craig Fowler gets it spot on for The Scotsman

That is so unexpected to read in a national paper, someone who has actually looked at County and McIntyre's reign on more than a surface level. Top stuff, can only hope some of his colleagues read it.
