The General Ross County Chat Thread

Well shit. That's rather come out of nowhere. (In the sense that I didn't imagine the club letting them go for another couple of months minimum)

It has been an appalling start to the season though, and that's the continuation of a repeated pattern of some serious underachieving.

Still, they won us the Cup & that was great so no hard feelings.

A little surprised to see Ferguson taking over in the interim rather than Kettlewell.

So, who is the favourite to replace McIntyre?

Roy made the mistake of backing Scott Lietch when we got relegated and almost didn't act in time when sacking Willie McStay, I think that's the big factor in Roy taking early decsions in recent sacking of Derek Adams and now Jim.

It gives the time for a new manger to properly evaluate the squad and I imagine a bit of money will be thrown around in the Jan transfer window.

What are they expecting? Crazy decision.

I don't think County are particularly underachieving as such - bottom half in the top flight is a decent level for the club. But I do think if you've got a manager who has no idea about his best 11 or how to set up the team, when he's been in the job for as long as he has, then the fans have got a valid complaint against him.

Correct.  I'd add that the players he has signed, with the exception of Draper, this season have been dodgy at best.

I can see the next manager having to punt Chow, Kelly, Mikkelsen and Dow straight off the bat, as it were.

Mikkelsen at least could be useful if we actually had any wingers to supply crosses to him.

But no, we'll go through the season without a creative central midfielder, any wingers or any specialist centre halves other than Davies. The squad is dangerously lopsided.

Interesting decision.  From an outside point of view, County are arguably performing at the same level as the most of the clubs they would view as peers and it begs the question for any town club in the league as to what is realistically achievable - especially now that Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen are operating without most of the financial restrictions of recent times. I see what St Johnstone are doing now (regardless of how well and sustainably they are run) - and what Motherwell did before them - as an overachievement and not a realistic benchmark.

Assuming a smaller club is going to live within it's means - the expectation surely is that with good recruitment in manager and players (and a productive youth system) that a mid-table finish is consistently achievable and maybe a cup run to add a bit of excitement. It looks shite and unambitious written down like that but that is the reality. I think I've seen 'Well finish in every position in the league bar 1st but every season, my goal for the club is to stay up as it simply takes a poor manager or some lazy signings and you're in the grubber.

If Uncle Roy sees the club is on a downward trajectory, it is possibly a good decision to change while there is a lot of time to turn things round - but I'd be interested to see what the new manager's target is..

I'm not sure McGregor is expecting anything more than survival with the occasional cup run or push for the top six; he's just getting McIntyre out as soon as the signs that they'll fail to survive have appeared, rather than punishing him for failing to do any better than that.

Interesting movement from County, I would assume that they have someone lined up to come in and take over.

I suppose with Caley doing so dreadfully in the Championship, it makes "Uncle Roy" keen to make sure that they don't follow in the same footsteps.

Hilarious seeing all these football journos on Twitter chastising County for sacking MacIntyre. Between them I'd guess that they've seen County for about 2 hours in total over the last few months.
