In relation to the brass monkey, the curator of HMS Victory states that freeze the balls off a brass monkey is indeed a naval term used as the brass monkey and cannon balls are made of different metals and due to different contraction rates in cold weather the cannon balls would indeed fall off. Hedgecutter Posted February 19, 2017 Share Posted February 19, 2017 Despite what one may expect from the world of the the toilet, sweetcorn sinks like lead in water. Upon reading that sweetcorn is a good healthy substitute for bread when feeding ducks, we tried throwing the local ones some the other day. None of us were impressed with the outcome to the point the ducks simply f***ed off. Eta: also, they evidently don't like it in general. Moved onto the world's hungriest group of ducks at Haddo House (as a big f*** you to the Aden Country Park snobby ducks) and even they turned their noses/beaks up at it.
