Yeah thanks, got it up on my laptop. Those standing prices are absolutely heartbreaking to be honest...

£56.75 is the cheapest? For me that sort of price seems half reasonable for the standing section! The seating sections should be £40 and below IMO.

Currently at SxSW. Will likely see 50 or 60 bands over the week. Highlights so far have been Big Thief, Low Cut Connie, The Lemon Twigs, Tommy Stinson sober (I saw him a second time, three sheets to the wind and he forgot all the lyrics), and the Black Angels. I've got the New Pornographers, Hurray for the Riff Raff and Future Islands coming up today - among others.

Stranglers Saturday night Wailers Thursday night. Made an old fart really happy. Thank you.

Weezer at Brazos Hall, Austin last night. Made an old, etc...

One hour set, 8 songs, four from the Blue Album and three of the better later period songs. And their dreadful new single.

Got quite a few this week. Ten Fe tonight and Surfer Blood tomorrow both at Broadcast, Jonny Fritz on Wednesday at the ABC2, then some 6Music fringe/festival stuff, namely Baby Strange at Tuts then Man Of Moon, Catholic Action, LUCIA and American Clay on Thursday, then the all-day thing at the Tramway on Saturday before Car Seat Headrest, The Lemon Twigs, Haley Bonar and Sacred Paws at night. Should be a #dece week.

I saw The Lemon Twigs with Low Cut Connie a couple of days ago. A whole mix of influences, from doo wop to mid 80s power ballads. I thought they were great.

Other bands I thought were great at SxSW: Lee Bains III (makes Dinosaur Junior seem quiet), the Dexateens (featuring the nicest, happiest bass in the world - he shakes hands with audience members during the show), The Blind Suns (French shoegaze, unfathomly good looking and just great - highly, highly recommended), Bash and Bop (when Tommy is sober - when he's drunk it's just sad), the aforementioned Low Cut Connie, Gold Connections, Weezer, Mark Eitzel, Grandaddy, and Big Thief (who were just sublime). I've had a wonderful week.

6 music festival gig last night.

Honeyblood were decent enough last night but didn't give the impression that they're a good live band. I really like the 2 albums but they just don't bring anything to a live show that makes them stand out. It could have been a Radio 1 roadshow from the 90s never mind the 6music festival - their attempts at engaging with the crowd were just a touch amateurish. That said, Stina is never less than eye catching.

Jason Lyttle admitted that he had been warned about swearies during his set so Grandaddy pretty much stuck to belting out tunes. They were great. Unlike Honeyblood whose music doesn't really change when played live, Grandaddy sounded fantastic. Their slightly askew songs sound even better live with the production stripped out and the band allowed to develop how the songs sound live.

The Shins were decent. Very decent. I've been wanting to see them since 2004 and it just hadn't happened til last night. I also only got the new album from Assai (best record shop in Scotland) yesterday morning so I was hitting the new tracks fresh. I thought the new stuff was good but the older stuff stood out a mile as being better. Only disappointment was a poor version of New Slang - violin wasn't needed and it's a better song with just acoustic guitar, sparse electric guitar and a little bit of drums (like the album version). Given the memories i have around that song, it just fell a little short.

Overall a great night of music. It didn't feel like a regular gig - maybe it's because by the time the Shins finished I'd been in the venue for almost 5 hours and it's not a line up that would ever come together anywhere but a festival stage. Each band did a decent set and nobody seemed to be given less time than they needed. Difficult to separate Grandaddy and The Shins for band of the night. All 3 are available in full on the BBC 6 music website and are well worth watching.

I've no idea how you could even be arsed writing all that so early. Gig didn't finish till 11.30 on the night the clocks go forward, i've barely had 6 hours sleep with 5 hours boozing! [emoji15] Really enjoyed the gig, thought Honeyblood were better than you made out, certainly sounded better in the venue than on the BBC website. Agree it didn't feel at all like a normal gig, too many people there just because it's the BBC music festival, heard one girl saying 'you know i'd be annoyed if it was bands I really liked' because she was stuck with a shitey view.

Whilst Grandaddy were good, they weren't my cup of tea for a live band. Very much could have done with sitting down during their set, not much to get you moving! They provided the 'superfans' last night though.
