Indeed. He performed a lot better in the mountains than expected and had the final day time trial in the bag. His team really protracted him too. Landa was unfortunate that he got involved in that crash that led to Thomas abandoning and so ended up being allowed to go for stage wins rather than being a GC contender. No such excuses for Nibali and Quintana being beaten though. I thought at the time maybe Nairo was maybe undercooked and aiming to peak for the Tour but it never happened that way.

This.

Quintana  and Nibali need improve on the ITT. He finished 31 seconds behind Dumoulin in the GC. He lost nearly 4 minutes to him in the two ITTs. Nibali also lost a lot of time to Dumoulin in the ITTs.

Dumoulin couldn't beat Froome in a GT as his climbing is not good enough. He was lucky that the 2017 Giro had two ITTs but no TTT.

Cummings has pulled out the TT (to be replaced by Geoghan Hart - sp?). Seems he was upset about being told he was going to be in the Road Race team (which would make sense as he's an option for a solo breakaway) and so hadn't been training on his TT bike or anything. Seems to be another bit of a farce from British Cycling - he was similarly pissed off last year at not making the Olympic team before being selected as a reserve.

Think, following this season's performance's, fans will be more looking to a GT collision between these two, than that of a challenge from Quintana.

Definitely. Dumoulin provides a different challenge; better in a TT and so Froome will need to take time off him in the mountains.

Will he interesting to see how Sunweb position themselves for next season to give Tom support for the Tour, assuming that's what he goes for.

Cookson out on his ear.

David Lappartient has spoken in the past about his intention to properly police the murky issue of motors in cycling. Hopefully he's true to his word.
