Thomas de Gendt raging after the (majority French) race jury gives the overall combativity award to Barguil despite the Belgian being in about 850km worth of breakaways!

Shameful, Barguil had an outstanding race, but De Gendt was clearly the most combative throughout the three weeks.

They were discussing it on itv earlier during the presentations, think he has every right to feel aggrieved.

Looking at the contenders, you could write off anybody that's already ridden the Giro & Tour. Will Valverde/Porte be fit by then, extremely doubtful & Dumoulin has said no.

Leaves Nibali & Zacharin as main threats to any Froome attempt. As both Bardet & Uran have just come up short against the Sky rider who's now hitting form.

Chaves, Adam Yates?

1.45 from the Landa, he was given 2 secs to the winning group, dicks.

I was thinking the same at the time (sic) and it's been important in the end 'cos those 2 secs would have put him on the podium ahead of Bardet.

Dylan Theuns, new star of Belgian cycling? Takes the Arctic Tour, following on from Wallonie & Poland.

Should BMC take him to the Vuelta for experience?

Would make sense, he's had some year and you would think they will want to use him in the Grand tours next year.

Was reading about Luke Rowe earlier, broke his leg on his brother's stag do and could be out for a year.

Froome favourite for the vuelta but his sky team isn't as strong as what it was for the tour, wout poels probably be his main lieutenant, no quintana or injured valverde so mabye betancur will be the main man for movistar but they will likely be looking at stage wins rather than a GC interest. I think zakarin from katusha is a big threat. Astana also look pretty strong with aru which the sharp inclines on this route may be more suited to his attacks. He is backed up by the talented youngster Miguel Angel Lopez and the experienced Luis Leon Sanchez.

The big name sprinters have gave this one a miss but the likes of john degenkolb and sacha modolo will be looking to taste glory. With only 5 real flat stages in the route if any sprinters make it to the finish line in Madrid they will have done well.

Biggest Challenge may come from Orica,(Chavez & Yates x2), or Nibali, but Bardet  rides too, Majka, Kruijswijk also.

Be interesting to see how Manzana Postabon go. They're packed full of Colombians & might provide fireworks in the mountains.

Disappointed to see BMC aren't taking Theuns. As it would be good to see his development in a 3 week tour.

Kind of one for the ProCycling Thread: The Scottish National Road Race Champs are on Sunday in Kennoway, Fife.

John Archibald (Pro Vision) is favourite, although Fraser Martin (Raleigh GAC) and others will be hot on his heels. Having, ridden the course, there is the possibility for punctures and crashes.
