Top tip. When nothing plugged into your 6-way bar adaptor is working and the surge protection light isn't on, why not stick your finger into the broken on/off switch and prod around to see if you can fix it. Cue flash, sparks, bang, a blackened finger and now very tingly arm...

Passed an interview yesterday which was my 2nd, only to be informed I have 4 more before potentially getting the job!

Tell them to f**k off.

I had a series of interviews for a national construction company a couple of years ago and when they announced that the next stage after that was several rounds of psychometric testing I told them to drop me out of the running. Maximum two interviews should be enough in my opinion, and that's certainly what I do when hiring staff. One to sound them out, one to work out the details / have the MD or whoever take a look at them.

The shite you have to go through for the bigger companies for graduate schemes is just ridiculous. Even doing these situational judgement tests take a great deal of time and you sometimes just get an email back saying sorry you were unsuccessful when answering a bunch of stupid hypothetical questions about what you would do in certain situations. All of this happens before you get the opportunity to disappoint them in an interview as well.

I go to the last two for a job and drove to Tow Law, in the back of fucking beyond for final interview with the MD. I didn't know that there would be a pre interview psychometric test...Which on seeing, the MD decided not to see me. I've often wondered what the results showed. On the way out the guy escorting me to the door said "If it's any consolation, he didn't see the other guy either".

For a certain company I had to submit a CV, personal statement, covering letter and answer 3 interview questions in the first online application. Then for the next stage I had to do numerical and verbal reasoning tests, a situational judgement test and then answering about 10 interview questions on my webcam. I got to the final stages which involved an hour long group exercise, an hour long interview, an hour long data analysis exercise, a 10 minute presentation as to why I would be good for the role and then about half an hour more interview questions.

I then got a generic email a week later saying I was unsuccessful.

I'm not even convinced of what these tests can accurately tell a prospective employer. For example: you take the test and it says you are not the easiest to get along with, but all the other candidates who are more compliant are less skilled / qualified for the role, so what point was there in the test? Or like your experience, the tests suggest to the person reading the results that none of the applicants are suited, so you just don't hire anyone to fill the vacant role? Pointless nonsense.
