Chin up I'm sure Raith & Ayr will fight out a ding dong battle for the title.

This time next week, we'll still be feeling the reverberations from the laughter of everyone else once our board appoints whichever living fossil of a manager manages to string enough syllables together to "interview well". The week after that, the championship clubs will have raked over the bones of this seasons' decent, under contract players, as we "cannae stand in their way, eh".

I'd be willing to stick my neck out and say that Andy Geggan, Ross Docherty and Paul Cairney are comfortably the 3 best midfielders in League 1 at the minute.

All 3 of those players were probably comfortably the 3 worst midfielders in the championship this season yet are comfortably the 3 best in League 1?

Geggan was absolutely rancid for the Pars in CM at the start of this season.

Docherty and Cairney were starting in comfortably the worst team in the championship this season.

They were nowhere near the worst 3 midfielders in Championship.

Geggan was the best midfielder in the League last time around and can't see anyone in the Raith or Airdrie squads that is much better.

The fact that we've almost assembled a full squad and Raith haven't got a manager yet is pleasing from an Ayr fans point of view.

I think it's a decent signing in league 1. But on that point I would say, he couldn't get a game in midfield for Dunfermline for most of the season. He really only played RB for them because they didn't have any decent option there and he was the captain.

As I say, a good player who I'd happily have seen back at Sons but I also think a player who isn't as influential as he once was.

I know, I know... He will win player of the year next year now

We only have 7 players signed for next season at the minute and one of those is 21 year old Ross Matthews who will be a far better player than Andy Geggan next season. Ross Callachan will hopefully be our other starting centre mid next season. He will also be more than capable as well.

I can't see a championship team go for the likes of Spencey.. Would like to think we'll speak to him.

Another player, that I would love to see us bring back is Grant Anderson which I can't see any Championship team approach either.

Why do our fans always want to bring back previous players.  Yes Spence scores goals but I'm sure there are butter out there and Anderson only has pace no end product. Let's move on and hopefully build a decent team to challenge Ayr who have so far brought in a couple of decent additions.

I have thought of 2 realistic candidates to fill those spaces? Name a better 25 goal a season striker for League one than Greig Spence that you can realistically see us getting?

You will struggle to find two sides with as little fight or creativity as Rovers and Ayr last season.  To say with any certainty that those two midfields will any way be a standout at any level is ridiculous to be honest.

So it's definitely not Easton, Campbell or Aitken. Its unlikely to be Hartley or Lennon but it might be Bollan or Young?

Jesus H Christ I'm holding on to the hope there is something surprising from the left field as another option, something similar to a Calderon maybe, though knowing us it'll turn out to be another Anelka.

A worst 3 midfielders in the championship list can't be taken seriously without Ian Davidson and Jordan Thomson filling the top 2 positions

Can understand the lack of enthusiasm for Bollan. I wonder how the paper can report he's the 'front runner' ? Who the feck could be trailing behind him ? (Dick Campbell seems to be a non runner ) I think i'd be happier to see Danny Lennon as one of the favourites - but he'd be reluctant to apply if he's already been passed over (twice ?  As I've mentioned in a previous post -managers are a bit of a lottery...maybe Bollan would do just fine for you.

On the subject of players who'd do a job in league one... I was thinking that Lawrence Shankland would probably do very well. He obviously has higher aspirations but he's already failed to impress at St Mirren and Morton. I think there's a very good L1 player in there and if he can motivate himself - who knows  ? He could yet end up at Dumbarton or another championship side and would no doubt come back to haunt us

I'd be happy to stick my neck out and say Matthews callachan and Vaughan are easily 3 of the best midfielders in that league. That's before we even get onto the subject of Bobby Barr.
