I can understand keeping Smith considering the situation we ended up in last year but surely he should be sitting on the bench while Lennox gets a few games in. Especially as Lennox has looked like he would be a good player to have next season while Smith is at the opposite end of his playing days.

Agree, in the main, however 35 yo  isn't really old for a goalie, outfield yeah.

In fairness Robinson was in goals when we beat RaGers in the Cup Final at Easter Road.

Apparently did ok on his debut ,couldn't imagine him wanting to go to Raith , apparently some of  the supporters are hostile

Apparently in the FFP that we were close to getting Austin but a deal couldn't be finalised in the timescale required so he went to ICT instead. Smith hopeful of another January addition but needs to wait and see regarding funds being available.

McCall says stuff like that and i don't quite get it.  If you had money to sign Austin then money must be available.

Aye, we're notorious for stuff like this. In fairness, we brought in Hendry right after the Austin deal. Last season we had a ridiculous squad size and kept bringing in players despite Locke saying there was no budget left.

Possibly the budget might be flexible ie they might be prepared to push the boat out for certain players like Austin.

I'm a bit confused about the timescale part of it though. Would he really have signed for us if we had got the deal in place a bit quicker?

Locke was just about right on that. There was no budget left. That's why we eventually ran up a near 200 grand loss.

There's a distinct possibility that we won't make further signings so there's no point in Smith committing to anything.

I was confused by that too. Perhaps we were planning to move someone on to bring Austin in? That would explain needing extra time and why money might not be available right now.

We've signed Jordan Thompson on loan till the end of the season - what's he like? Was with you guys last season right? We've been pretty good at highlighting good players to bring in on loan, hopefully the kind of midfielder that will push everything and try break up the play. Likely he'll be replacing Penrice though as a driving midfielder though, possibly on the left

 I genuinely had you down as promotion play-off contenders.

Never mind though. Hopefully you'll stay up.

He isn't a left mid player. He's a CM.

He is genuinely one of the worst loan signings I think we've had.

Tidy enough on the ball, no other redeeming features.

He's a fucking charlatan. Utter shite player who was one of a number who sold the jerseys last season. Came in from Rangers, scored a peach up at Tannadice and did f**k all for the rest of the season.  He's a defensive midfielder, who doesn't have the work-rate or the willingness to do anything. He'll be binned by Rangers in a year or two, before descending through the leagues like his counterpart Scott Roberts.

Sounds like he won't fit in all that well given our midfield is built around a high tempo and work ethic essentially splitting everything up in the middle of the park

If it's high tempo and work ethic you are looking for then Jordan Thompson definitely isn't your man. Can't believe another championship team would go near him considering how bad he was for us in that league.
