Not really a farce, is it?

Club has finite funds. Club decides to spend some. Before that happens, a cost occurs. No further funds available.

Hardly Fawlty Towers.

Last season was a farce. This sounds to me like sensible financial decision making. It's unfortunate but it's the right approach

We have to just get on with it, we've been doing well so far so I'll let Barry decide on his formations. Kudos to Graeme Smith he's been solid in goal since arriving

I've still got this underlying feeling that he's a bit ropey, not sure why as his record doesn't back that up and having watched the highlights from Saturday, he made a few crucial saves. As you say, he's been solid.

Its a farce the way they have gone about it.Leaked to random supporters in the 200 club, then to the FFP unless Elder has picked up from here. The square root of f**k all on official website

Bene gets injured, board announce no money to bring a player in.Few days/ a week later, funds have been found/ released for BS to bring in a loanee defender/player.A few days later the board/ supporter/ reporter announce  due to medical costs no money to bring in loanee player.

Thought we had left last season behind us

Ps heard that McHatties injury is the same or related to previous injury/ operation. An error of judgement in signing him?.Craig Barr mark 2?

He hasn't really - he's been flappy as f**k, and has gotten away with most of it.  Still, his kicking is excellent.

They could have avoided the issue by waiting to tell Smith if he had funds until after the various specialists had pronounced upon Cuthbert and McHattie - would apparently only have required them waiting, what? Two days?

In any event, we need Robbo out of central defence, he doesn't exactly inspire confidence in there and we are missing the balance in midfield. To me, there is a sense of having gotten away with it a wee bit, having Queens and Airdrie after Ayr, but we've got the two form teams coming up next - so this really needs sorted.  Either Mckay goes into the middle or Valentine out to left back, but something needs to be changed before we get properly stung.

This. If there's one minor point about (Barry) Smith, it's that he shoehorns in players with more experience ahead of the youths. All the noise before the season was how we'd need to blood in youngsters, but we've only given McKay 45 minutes against Alloa, before resorting more recently to Robbo at centre back. Graeme Smith is another example. Rory Brian didn't have anything to do against a Forfar team who were down to ten men. You could argue the East Fife game and Ayr game might have been high pressure, but he certainly looks as worthy of a spot as Smith who comes across as indecisive.

Either way, the situation is one we just need to deal with. Wouldn't surprise me if we're speaking to local businesses to see if they want to support a signing and cover wages. Tbh, with the way a lot of clubs are now, I wouldn't care if we went down the route of what a lot of other clubs have done and selling a contract for the stadium name for a few seasons. It'd generate funds, and pretty much only the press really need to worry about it.

As a couple of others have mentioned, it's the fact that we didn't just say to Smith that there might be money available to bring someone in but it would be contingent on the results of Cuthbert and McHattie's scans.  That way there would have been nothing in the press and none of the frustration now that the money has been withdrawn. It has been poorly handled.

Smith has been a pretty dodgy since he came in I think but the main advantage he has over Brian is his communication. There were a few times on Saturday he could be easily heard barking orders and organising. There's a lot to be said for that, especially with a makeshift back 4.

Can't add anything that hasn't been covered regarding the defensive signing. No problem with the club not spending money they don't have, glad they're being responsible. However, they should surely have waited for the results from the specialist before discussing a new signing.

With Matt Elder of the FFP confirming Raith can't afford to strengthen defensively, it seems its time for guys like David McKay and Euan Valentine to possibly step up.

Ironically, I've just spoken to Craig Easton over the phone ahead of tonights Development League match versus Berwick. You can here his preview on my website (see my signature) while I'll also have more audio from our chat out tomorrow for anyone interested in Craig's take on things.

All of this

Why do clubs not have a contingency fund for the likes of this ( maybe they do)instead if being hit with a bill for 14 k.I know moneys tight but much like when you set a household budget funds are put away for the likes of house insurance etc etc

Club could of course put both players on NHS waiting list(10-12 weeks)instead of private saving themselves 14 k ;)
