  1. That's one of the most comical goals I have ever seen. And I watch League Two football every week.
  2. Brett, Durnan, Crighton, Blair, Div Wilson, Ross MacLean, Carlo, Tony Wallace and Greig Young are all signed up. Aron Lynas and Callum Wilson both have options for another year too iirc.
  3. Aron Lynas got kicked in the head against Bonnyrigg for us a few weeks ago by a shoulder high boot. Right in full view of the assistant. Had blood pouring from the wound (which opened up again yesterday) and the referee didn't even give a foul. Who was that referee I hear you ask? Mr Jordan Curran.
  4. Surprised it took you so long lads Anyway. Congratulations! Us winning the Third Division in 09 is genuinely one of the best days of my life, so I hope there's an 11-year-old Stenny equivalent of me who has had the best day of his life today. What I'd give to relive that again.
  5. I enjoyed that. In fact I'm just enjoying watching us generally at the moment. We have the feel of a team challenging for promotion for the first time since we rocked up in this league, our big players are playing well and we're looking good at both ends of the park. Today wasn't massively one-sided. But I felt we were the better side throughout and deserved all three points. 2-0 seemed like the right sort of scoreline too, especially given we had two goals chalked off. I thought the game would be a stick on 0-0 when I saw we were missing Ruth. But fairly play to the players, because they adapted their game around not having a guy who is our most important player. Jinky Hilton led the line in a very different way. But did a good job. His touch was superb and he came close a few times. He's in good form at the moment and looks to be benefitting from finally getting regular gametime. He just looks like a guy who is enjoying his football. I thought Blair Malcolm had a very decent, energetic performance and Finlay Gray also continued his terrific form of recent times. He was first to almost everything in the middle of the park, always looking to surge forward and caused Forfar all kinds of issues with his pace. Tony Wallace's penalty was well taken and he had an excellent header ruled out for offside that I'll need to see back. The ball took forever to reach him so I've no idea if it was the right call or not, but it looked very tight. He's now on 14 for the season. That's a brilliant return. Brings him level with Dom Thomas and Calum Gallagher in 2018/19. We've not had someone this 'prolific' for a while. At the back Mark Durnan continues to impress and largely we looked comfortable. Save for good chances in both half. One where Josh Skelly got an attempted chip over Jay Hogarth all wrong, and a horrible miss from Fin Allan in the second-half one-on-one. Kieran Inglis also probably should've done better when Hogarth kicked the ball straight to him from the left-back position. But he made a complete arse of his lob and the danger was gone. I thought Carlo Pignatiello was the best player on the park today by a good distance. I'm his biggest fan. But also his fiercest critic. Sometimes it feels like he's playing within himself, but that wasn't the case at all today. He was different class on the wing and, especially, when moved to attacking midfield. His goal was a lovely strike. A low left footed drive from the edge of the area. And it felt like it had been coming all game. He'd curled narrowly wide earlier in the half, and fired straight at Marc McCallum after a superb driving run started when he intercepted the ball. I'm hoping we might see more of him in the attacking midfield role. It's one I've always thought suited him and it gets a guy who is one of our best players on the ball right in dangerous areas. The only downside is that he's also our best defender too! But Aron Lynas is back to himself at full-back, so that might solve that problem. Our second disallowed goal was a weird one. McCallum saved from Pignatiello, the ball ended up going past the keeper to Kalvin Orsi who stuck it in the net. It was given. We celebrated. The linesman didn't flag. But didn't move. After a long deliberation it was chalked off. I spoke to Carlo afterwards and asked him, and the linesman said he had played the ball to Orsi. But it looked like it was a Loons defender who had played it last. Albeit as a kind of sclaffed clearance. Again I'll need to see it back because I'm not actually sure what happened! Forfar looked exactly as their fans described them. There were a couple of decent passages of play, but both ended up with crosses being flashed across goal to nobody. Aside from that their best chance looked like coming from a mistake at the back from ourselves. Nobody really scared me in blue, it was just a collection of absolute fine performances. But with little excitement, invention or creativity. Marc McCallum was asking for the Clyde score during the game which I thought was interesting. I didn't have Forfar down as anything like in relegation danger, but the results today do open things up a bit. I think they'll be absolutely fine. But I can see why Ray McKinnon isn't exactly flavour of the month. Stenny are like a better version of us from last season. Built on defensive solidity and clinical striking. Forfar are a worse version. Absolutely fine defensively. But not stand out good. And then not clinical offensively. I suspect they'll need to do some decent business over the summer to avoid being in a similar position next season. Especially in terms of attacking creativity. They just looked really short on ideas for most of the game. The best news of the day though? Michael Ruth just had a dead leg. So he should be back next weekend.
  6. He's under contract for another season, so unless a bigger club comes in and nabs him I think it's very safe to say Faz will be our gaffer next season. Regardless of what happens between now and May.
  7. RE playoff dates the only things I can think are either if someone is going to grab them (probably the final) for TV. I'm sure they've been on Mondays and Fridays before? And secondly it could depend who is in them. I've no idea if there are could be any clashes seen as the split hasn't been decided yet ; but Police in Edinburgh might not want Spartans at home for a 'big' playoff game at the same time as Celtic/Rangers are in Edinburgh - for example? That might all be nonsense. But it's the best guess I could come up with.
  8. You joking? It's £2.35. They've still got to eat this week.
  9. Didn't think I'd see my paper picked up by the P&B masses. Could double our sales
  10. Just hopping onto Facebook. How are things looking over there? Ah I see someone has posted a bizarre and fairly xenophobic April Fools joke. What do the comments say?
  11. Stenny's highlights give a really good account of the game. Minter the way Bucky hit the deck after his booking mind you. Inwardly cringed watching that.
  12. I'm pretty relaxed about things generally when it comes to the radio. But I had to switch across to 5Live last night when Stewart and Kenny were just shouting over each other. I really hope it was fake 'drama' because Stewart was in a terrible state if it wasn't. And, again, assuming it was a fake. Could they not do it again? Absolute Talksport level nonsense. Fine for a commercial station. But not really what you're after when it's the only option for Scottish football coverage.
  13. I thought that was quite an entertaining game. Two sides who looked like they wanted to win it, some decent chances at both ends and a nice wee bit of needle. Stenny looked a bag of nerves in the first five minutes and I really think if we'd got a goal there (either from the corner inside the first few seconds, the corner soon after or the mixup between the two Jamiesons) then we might've been on to a really enjoyable afternoon. Alas it wasn't to be. And a draw was maybe about the right outcome. We played like a team at home, had more chances and probably more of the ball. Stenny played like a team away, and very easily could've nicked something. I thought that we played well though, and it keeps the positive feeling we seem to have built in recent weeks going. I like the way we're playing and we've got some good players hitting form. Finlay Gray and Michael Ruth were, as has been the case for ages now, excellent. The former buzzing about midfield looking to make something happen, the latter occupying defenders and chasing every ball like an excitable spaniel. I'm going to be extremely sad when their time with us comes to an end. I thought big Mark Durnan once again was superb at the back. Naysmith electing to go with Matty Yates over Aitken/Rodden was a smart move given our two centre-halves, but they dealt with Yates' threat well. He's a terrific player, and exactly the sort you'd hate to play against as a big, veteran centre-half. But he only really got once chance out of them - which Jay Hogarth saved well. Euan O'Reilly against Aron Lynas was a good battle. And one where there was no winner. With both giving as good as they got. But the box office was on the other side with Ross Taylor against Gallagher Lennon. Taylor is a strange player. I think he's the best in the league at going by his man. He's exciting, dynamic and boy does he know how to win a foul. But I also think he's kind of like Kalvin Orsi, albeit with attitude. Both have 1 goal and 3 assists this season, but from watching them you'd think they should be nearing double figures for both. Anyway. Taylor got in behind a few times in the first-half which had me thinking Lennon was in for a difficult second-half. But he was superb. He didn't let his lack of pace be exploited by someone as explosive as Taylor, routinely got the better of him to a degree that Taylor's head (as per) went. He landed a late one on him (having attempted to do it a few minutes earlier and missed) and ended up hooked. Between that and missing an absolute sitter I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy his second-half showing. He's a pantomime villain (but he'll also have a league winners medal soon. So who is the real winner?). As I said earlier, I'm enjoying watching us play at the moment. And I think we're in a far better position than we were 12 months ago. A lot can change between now and May obviously, but I'm feeling good about DFC right now. And the mood around the place just seems to be nicer than it had been for a while. On Stenny. They are a funny team. They have some exceptional players who will star in League One. Darren Jamieson is a brilliant goalkeeper, Nicky Jamieson is probably one of the best centre-halves in part-time football. Mikey Anderson was very good for stages today and will only improve. I like Euan O'Reilly and I rate Matty Yates hugely. Surely a full-time team will fancy him in the summer? But there are also guys who I think might struggle a bit stepping up. Especially the ones on the bench. All of whom looked a downgrade on the men they replaced. Bradley Rodden, James Berry, even Matty Aitken? I'm not sure they'll cut it in League One. But who knows. Who the hell even cares about next season. You're about to win a league! Anyway. Get the job done next week plz boys and help out your old pals in G82
  14. I must be thinking about a different incident and not this mad MMA shtick you seem to have seen.
  15. I don't think the ref has been great. But telling Newbury and Yates to behave without spraying out bookings to the two of them was the right call.
  16. Stenny look a lot more nervy than I thought. Nice bit of needle in the game and we're playing well. Do fear that Stenny can only improve in the second-half mind you and we might regret not taking advantage of them here. We absolutely need to playing on Bucky's booking. He's been all over the shop in the first-half.
  17. I work for a paper that does P1 and P7 class photos. We genuinely get a few parents every year asking if they can buy a picture without the ASN pupils. And one a few years years ago kicked off when they were told where to go, and demanded we retook the picture.
  18. Agreed. Nothing more tinpot than football fans shouting and swearing about a rival town. Personally I prefer to shout and swear about overseas nations and political events to which I have no connection.
  19. If I was Cowden, I'd probably be quite into the idea of swapping Elliot with Robbie Horn?
  20. Trying to imagine the sheer confusion on the Bonnyrigg faces as wee Danny tries to get them to play his trademark brand of possession based football.
  21. If they get a new manager bounce and stay up then a new gaffer to basically clear out the squad would be a masterstroke imo. If it turns out Robbie Horn's time is up, then I think he'll determine he was too loyal to the group of players who got them up. Who simply aren't up to this level. On the opposite hand though, if they go down then he'd probably be the man you'd want in charge for the Lowland League.
  22. Only issue I see with that theory is that East Fife have some very good players who were underperforming. Bonnyrigg don't. So whoever comes in will be working with the same rabble.
  23. I thought that was a really solid, professional and actually quite enjoyable performance. On a park that was completely impossible to play on, and in wind that made it hellish to watch. The conditions were a bit of a leveller. And, on a proper park with limited wind, I think we'd have scudded Bonnyrigg 4/5-0. For the second week in a row we were superior all over the park. Every key battle was won by a Sons player, and 2-0 was the very least we deserved. I can't really add a lot to what's already been said (but I will...). Durnan, Gray and Ruth all stood out massively. And I'm glad we know at least one of them will be here next season! My hot take for tonight is one that, imo, shouldn't be considered all that hot. If Mark Durnan had played every game for us this season then we wouldn't be anywhere near as far adrift of Stenny as we are. They'd still be Champions, and deservedly so, but it would've been a real title race. He was colossal today. Absolutely thumping everything in the air, winning every challenge on the deck and really leading like a skipper should. It's not just that either, he really brings on those around him. Gallagher Lennon had a good game as did Aron Lynas. Despite being kicked in the head and needing bandaged up to stop the bleeding after what referee Jordan Curran deemed 'a fair challenge'. Finlay Gray has such a high ceiling. If he can tidy up his final ball and produce what he did today (and for Graham's goal last week) then he'll be playing full-time football for the bulk of his career. He's a rough diamond in that regard, but I hope wherever he goes he gets the right coaching to make the most of what he has. Because he's a super talent (and a lovely wee guy to boot). I thought he dominated the midfield. Albeit Lee Currie, Callum Connolly and Jonny Stewart is about as stodgy as it gets. Currie is a decent player technically, although miles off it physically, the other two are hardworking but limited Lowland League players. And that really was shown up. Michael Ruth was superb. If he'd managed to get a goal that would've been a 10/10 performance. It was totally selfless, he occupied three centre-halves all game. And he did all whilst being booted up and down the place with a referee who was quite happy to let it happen. I've said it before, he's the best striker we've had in years. Not prolific, but just superb at some many aspects of being a forward. He's my Player of the Year by a mile. Bonnyrigg meanwhile are in big trouble. They are as limited a team as I've seen at this level for a long time. Almost a throwback to struggling sides from the last time we were in the fourth tier. There's no shortage of effort. But there's absolutely no spark. They didn't ever look like scoring. In fact they didn't ever look like threatening. Just a collection of guys with 'effort' 'work rate' and 'determination' but nothing else. I suppose Smart Osadolar summed that up. He did put himself about. He did work hard. But I think I counted that he was offside seven times. We knew to push up, and he couldn't adapt his game to that. Paddy Martin is a solid goalkeeper and performed well again. But aside from him I'm struggling to think of one Rose player who turned in a decent showing. They look like a side with just one win since the turn of the year since the league and, given what Stranraer did to us a few weeks ago, right now I would put money on them finishing 10th. I'd be in the home end at NDP if they played East Kilbride mind you. A real clash of the styles that one!
  24. I'd be staggered if Bonnyrigg avoid the drop. What a rabble.
  25. Interesting technique from the referee to simply ignore Michael Ruth being kicked off the park.
