  1. Right Neilly, it's the one you've been waiting for. GK - Darren Jamieson (Stenhousemuir) - With Brett Long's ankle in half, nobody else comes close. Good lad too is DJ, and the most transformative signing that any club has made arguably in Scotland this season. I was disappointed he wasn't up for divisional POTY at the PFA awards. RB - Matty Grant (Stranraer) - He's more of a winger these days, but I've seen him play at full-back for Pollok (and wing-back) and I like him a lot. Aggressive, tricky, decent on the ball. I'd like to see him in a Sons shirt one day. CB - Nicky Jamieson (Stenhousemuir) - Will deal with the step up to League One better than Buchanan. And the stats speak for themselves, Stenny basically don't lose when he plays (I mean they don't lose anyway, but they especially don't lose when he plays). CB - Stuart Morrison (Forfar Athletic) - Forfar's only interesting player imo. Stupidly aggressive in the air, a goal threat, good on the ball. Him and Jamieson together would be sensational imo. LB - Neil Martyniuk (Bonnyrigg Rose) - Not actually sure if he's that good, but his goal return has basically saved Bonnyrigg - even if 95% are penalties. Plus I couldn't think of any other Bonnyrigg player I'd want (Paddy Martin is good, but not Jamieson, and Josh Grigor is alright. But not Jamieson/Morrison). CM - Mark Gallagher (Elgin City) - Impressed me massively at Borough Briggs back in January. Didn't actually know who he was until half-time, but you can see what bigger clubs have seen in him. Looked like he had an absolutely terrific engine above all else and had no issue bursting box-to-box. CM - Rhys Armstrong (Spartans) - Another guy I knew very little about before this season, but I've been massively impressed. Only 22 too so I can see him going on to a higher level if he fancies it. I actually wanted Cammy Russell from Spartans, but he didn't fit my team under the one from every club rule. So Armstrong it is. CM - Andy McCarthy (Peterhead) - Such a pain in the backside. I spoke about him on the Terrace a few weeks ago as being one of my least favourite opposition players to watch, but also someone I'd take at us in a heartbeat. Breaking up play, winning soft fouls and generally being a shithouse. FW - Michael Ruth (Dumbarton) - I know he's only got 12 goals, but he's also not our penalty taker. So he's got 12 from open play, compared to Aitken and Henderson both of whom take penalties. I wouldn't swap him for any other striker in the division. He's the best forward we've had in years, his hold-up play is in a different league to basically every other striker in the division. His workrate, strength and general forward play is absolutely vital to our chances of going up. I just wish we'd find a way to play someone alongside him. He'd be even more effective if he wasn't winning high balls, running channels, holding play up and scoring goals all on his own. FW - Jordan Allan (Clyde) - Pair Ruth with Jordan Allan and you'd have a title winning strikeforce. He's always been a thorn in our side, but he gave us the run around in the 2-0 defeat at NDP in February. A more natural goalscorer than Ruth, the two of them would be superb together. Seems to have a good knack of getting goals in important games/at important times too. FW - Nathan Austin (East Fife) - I was shocked by how bad he looked in the first few games we played against EF this season. He looked absolutely finished. A guy going through the motions. Gradually though it's looked like the Nathan Austin of old has returned and East Fife are very lucky to have a player that good with such an affinity to the club.
  2. Not being there when Kalvin Orsi scored a prime Maradona goal would be a very safe second in the most iconic DFC moments I've missed. Extremely glad Budinauckas made that save
  3. I'm not really saying anything new, but that's a terrific signing. Calum Gallagher in League One is like Dwight Gayle was in the Championship down south a few seasons ago. Just a guaranteed goalscorer, who maybe isn't quite capable of taking that next step. So fair play getting him tied down early. That's as good a signing as any League One team will make all summer, and it's only April! He's an absolutely fantastic team player. Will work himself into the ground, do the ugly side of the game. Run channels, hold play up. All that good stuff. It still pisses me off that we had fans berate him every week for us because he runs in a weird, ungainly way. Sure, he's not the most aesthetically pleasing forward in the world, but I'd kill to have him back at The Rock. Genuinely lovely guy too with a really nice nature about him. As said above, he'll be one happily dishing out high-fives and selfies with the kids.
  4. Agreed. Good atmosphere too with the Burgh Young Team.
  5. Told you it would be tight Good competitive game that. And a draw was probably about the right result. Arthurlie missing a late sitter, but Pidge making a terrific save in either half.
  6. A lot of Arthurlie's defeats have been by a single goal margin, and with Johnstone's league positioning I can't see either team dishing out a skudding tbh. I'm expecting it to be a pretty tense, tetchy, low scoring affair. Should be a cracking crowd though. Looking forward to it!
  7. The 5-0 scoreline was maybe a freak. But we weren't in good form and a result like that had been coming at the time. If we'd lost 3-0 that night I don't think that would've been much of a surprise. And Stranraer deserved a very comfortable three points. We've turned a corner since then. No doubt about that. Mainly because Mark Durnan is back. But we've won (iirc) nine games at Stair Park in our history. And Faz will 100% be rotating the squad between now and the end of the season. Tony Wallace has played every single game, is 33 now and is a huge player for us. So he'll drop to the bench for a spell I reckon. Personally I wouldn't be risking Michael Ruth from the start and I'd probably be tempted to give Finlay Gray a breather at some point over the next few weeks. On the more positive side from a Clyde point-of-view, Kalvin Orsi has been struggling to for gametime basically all season because of injury. But could be a massive player for us in the playoffs. So I'd imagine he'll get a start if he's fit; and it'll maybe be a chance for guys like James Graham, Marc Kelly and Aaron Healy to show what they can do. None of them have had so much as a sniff for about a month now, so you'd like to think they'd be keen to grab a chance. Never ever put your faith in Sons getting a result at Stair Park though.
  8. Nope. They absolutely had our number that season. Beat us 3-0 at home and 2-1 away. And we drew 2-2 at home (after being 2-0 up against 10 men with 88 minutes played) and 4-4 away (after going behind 3 times and having 10 men). They then got relegated, played us again in the Betfred Cup a few months later and won 3-1.
  9. That was a largely atrocious spectacle. But we deserved to win, and keeping a clean sheet in those circumstances is no easy feat. So fair play to the guys for that. It's pretty pointless to read a great deal into the game. But I'm glad that we got over the line with three points to keep this decent run going, and there is a real positivity around the place at the moment. I don't think I've ever seen us beat a McCall team before, so that's a nice added bonus. On the pitch there wasn't a great deal to talk about. Cian Newbury had another good game, neat and tidy in possession and winning plenty of second balls. Finlay Gray and Blair Malcolm both toiled hard and the 'win the midfield, win the game' mantra was proved correct. Mark Durnan, obviously, is a huge player for us. And he was superb at the back again. It's not just how good he is at defending, it's how much of a leader he is. Barking out orders, demanding things from his teammates. A real standout. This will attract Stenny fans no doubt, but I think he's a better player than Gregor Buchanan. Buchanan has had a superb season (just as he did last year) but if you asked me a straight up if I would swap Durnan for Buchanan I wouldn't. Jinky's goal was a superb effort. And all game you felt he had a wee bit of match winning magic in him. Both teams were probably guilty of not shooting enough in the conditions. He was the exception. He's came onto a game recently. Since East Fife he's been really impressive and I think he'd benefitting from starting a run of games for the first time all season. Having the playoffs secured hopefully means we can now rest a few (and wrap a few in cotton wool) until May. Albeit whilst still hopefully keeping the momentum going. I suspect we'll change things a fair bit for Stranraer next week - not what Clyde fans will want me to say. I've said since they appointed McCall that Clyde will be fine. Today I actually started to doubt that. I can't put my finger on it, but I didn't get a good vibe from that Clyde team at all. You can't really judge a side in those conditions. But they didn't look like a side scrapping for their lives. And they didn't really look like a side playing for their manager. I think they have some excellent players. Lee Hamilton and Jordan Allan especially. But the whole package today just didn't look great. A few players looked like they didn't fancy it, I didn't like McCall hooking Kabia and Rennie at half-time (well I did. But I wouldn't as a Clyde fan) and I think they played a very risky game by attempting to sneak a 0-0 in the second-half. One which, ultimately, backfired. Even in the first-half they didn't do anywhere near enough with the wind. Corners and free-kicks were basically the only time they looked dangerous. Save for Ray Grant hitting the post with a looping volley. They played us off the park and deservedly won at NDP a few months back. Today? Meh. I didn't see a lot.
  10. Is this due to the wind, the manager of the month curse. Or both?
  11. Getting to half-time at 0-0 is about as good an outcome as we could've hoped for given the conditions. Although we looked good early on and put together some really nice stuff when the ball wasn't going into orbit. Looking forward to the wind machine being turned off at half-time.
  12. We've not actually had a game called off at home yet this season, have we? A few (Peterhead especially) must've been very touch and go. But I'd be surprised and disappointed if this was called off. It's been a bit rainy at times, but nothing serious. And it's been really mild.
  13. I've done this for my own articles with Sons players and the difference it makes to views is incredible. I'm not judged on page views (thankfully) but for reporters who are it's an easy way to boost your figures.
  14. At least they had plenty of sexy Samba soccer to enjoy in the Lowland League Cup final this afternoon.
  15. I genuinely hope Finlay gets a good move this summer. He's kicked on a fair bit this season, and looks like a guy who knew what his weaknesses were and has addressed them. To a level where he's far too good for League Two now. He wasn't a great tackler when he came to us. Especially when he was left back at corners. That developed last season leaps and bounds. Now he's getting better and better at playing a pass at the right moment and his surging runs in between centre-back and full-back are excellent. He's clearly a quick and willing learner and that will do him good in the big time I reckon. Even if it might take him a few months to get fully firing. He's not the finished article. But he's got a bit of everything and he's clearly very coachable. With the right move to a team who will coach him further I think he'll go on to have a very decent full-time career. Airdrie might not be the best move financially for him. But with their style of play and McCabe's confidence in playing young guys, I think somewhere like that could be ideal for him. Certainly much better than QOS would've been as he was offered last year.
  16. He must've been gutted to discover Station Park was astro when he took the job.
  17. He absolutely did that after the whistle so he could post it on his Insta tonight with a caption like 'Battle Fever '
  18. Southgate's presence has clearly had an impact on Butland
  19. Rangers best tactics would be to simply pass the ball to a Celtic defender imo.
  20. That's surely a foul on the Celtic boy in the build-up, no?
  21. Absolutely not having that as a booking. Jesus Christ. Shameful stuff from Silva. Utterly mortifying cheating.
  22. Carlo Pignatiello got booked twice not for kicking the ball away as such. Just for touching it after the whistle at Ochilview earlier this season. We had about five players booked for it in that game. Same ref a fortnight later then turned a blind eye to it.
