If you go down, is he widely expected to leave? He's had a few brain farts in recent weeks but I've been really impressed with him this season and a few top flight clubs might offer him a route back in the summer. You'll have us, Abderdeen, Hibs, Motherwell and possibly Dundee all looking for new first choice goalkeepers.

Trevor Carson is still doing a brilliant job for us. I can only see us going for McCracken if pushing the boat out for a new first choice or signing a back-up for Carson tbf.

  2. I think Sylla is one of our best players but do agree, when he's having an off day, our midfield pretty much collapses. Probably because he's the only one with an ounce of defensive sense. He has a tard task keeping a midfield trio of him, McCowan and Cameron tight!

I'd like to see us retain Boateng if at all possible.

I think Cameron is likely to depart in the summer so a rejig of the midfield with Boateng -- Sylla both sitting behind McCowan could be ideal!

  3. At his peak at Dundee, there's no denying Scott Bain was absolutely sensational. He had about a 6-8 month stint where he was being compared to our two last greats in Rab Douglas and Julian Speroni. Some of the saves he'd pull off were absolutely sublime and despite not having a massive stature, he was absolutely dominant in his box.

Then it all changed and it was largely his attitude. Greg Stewart noted on a recent Open Goal podcast that he admired Scott Bain's 'don't give a f**k' attitude and he would regularly challenge the manager and that eventually came to boiling point when he went up against probably the most ill-tempered man currently associated with Scottish football in Neil McCann. Apparently they had a full on scrap at HT in a game against Hamilton in which his attempts at diving for the ball were absolutely pitiful. That was pretty much the end of his time at Dens as he was to play a game for the reserves as a punishment for his outburst and he failed to turn up and that was that.

His attitude was fucking shocking and he truly believed his own hype. His form was absolutely chronic, he became glued to his line, regularly argued with fans, and you could see he wasn't bothering his arse to try and save the ball. But his biggest flaw, even more than his attitude was his inability to lead a defence. Many keepers, in poorer Dundee teams have much better clean sheet records than Bain for us and that's the main reason.

To put it into context, Bain kept just 4 clean sheets in his final 54 games for us. Elliot Parish, a much poorer goalkeeper overall, kept 4 clean sheets in the 9 games Bain was still at Dundee but suspended. In that 54 game run, Bain was out injured for 2 games and David Mitchell, again, another keeper much less talented than Bain kept 2 clean sheets. In the season we were relegated under McPake/McGhee, despite playing through injury (and again being a much less naturally gifted goalkeeper than Bain) for most of the season, Adam Legzdins kept 6 clean sheets in 24 games. Now clean sheets don't tell you everything, but I would say Bain had the best defence out of all the keepers mentioned there as he had Thomas Konrad -- James McPake -- Kosta Gadzhalov - 3 defenders that Dundee fans have fond memories of in comparison to say, Liam Fontaine & Ryan Sweeney.

Scott Bain is an example of a completely wasted career. At his peak, I genuinely believe he was Scotland quality and not just make the numbers up like Kelly & Clark. But an atrocious fucking attitude, zero desire to keep on improving and the 'cream rising to the top' stopped him and he's now a distinctly average - at best - goalkeeper.

To end on a more positive note, some Celtic fan made a list of his best saves and it might make you realise that he was once had a touch of brilliance in him.

    Are Pittmans legs not gone?

Possibly - must confess, not saw a lot of him this current season, but I can't envisage many players for Livingston looked like their normal selves this season considering how pish they were collectively.

Has Dan Phillips decided what he's doing yet? 👀

  5. Livi have a fair few players on their books that I'd like to see us act like vultures over. Not all of them - obviously, but fair few individually could add something to our team IMO.

James Penrice has already been snapped up by Hearts but Scott Pittman is one I've always liked. Would add a bit of bite, some much needed experience and energy for our midfield.

Yengi has been mentioned by the ITK poster on the other forum as a possibility. Bruce Anderson and Nouble are both out of contract as well.

  6. To be fair to Ange, he absolutely bitched this league and I've not witnessed a Celtic team play us off the park with as much as intensity as his Celtic side did with a  fairly average bunch of players.

It worked for 6 month in the EPL, but it's been found out fairly quickly and he'll be lucky to make it to next season if he's continually on the end of pumpings.

  7. Ange is really, really struggling right now. Must desperately want this season to end so he can ship some of these lads out.

He needs to have a quick start to next season though as it's beginning to just look like his tactics have been sussed out.

Two guys I'd be very pleased to see as Pars players next season.

However they won't be short of bids, including from Livingston and possibly from some Premiership clubs.

*Enjoyed his brief loan spell at us a few years ago.

I'd have them both at Dens and we finished top 6. You're in dream land.

Deserved win, the 13 for St.Mirren was very good. Shaved head. Sign him.

Gogic. For the longest time, I've just thought of him as a useless clogger. A brute with very limited talents but decent enough in a scrap.

He fairly shut my puss today. Didn't lose a single header. Calmly dribbled past our attacking players when we were pressing him and was like a true leader for St Mirren at the back.

Shat myself when Dundee pulled one back, allowed myself to believe after our third and thought I’d jinxed it.

As some have alluded to, we were excellent today, and whilst Dundee no doubt had an off day we played a huge part in that literally from kick off. We are a different defence with Bolton, and Strain (but that probably goes without saying).

Mandron excellent again today, with Baccus doing an excellent shift when he came on.

Mccowan is class - he’ll surely get a “big” Move in the summer

The rumour is that McCowan has already extended his stay and loves it at Dens. We'll sell one of McCowan and Cameron in the summer and Cameron will likely net us the much bigger fee. Cameron has already been giving it the, 'We'll see in the summer chat' whereas McCowan has publicly been saying he wants to extend his deal.

We should be cashing in on one in the summer but simply can't afford to lose both.

  11. Fair play to St Mirren. That was some performance. Never let us settle in the first half and that set the tone for the game. We were nervous throughout and just couldn't string a couple of passes together.

Mental that Docherty kept the same shape for so long. We played one of our worst games of the season bar a few skelpings from the OF but that was 100% down to St Mirren forcing us to play within ourselves and then we couldn't change it and just started making the absolute most basic of mistakes.

St Mirren's last 2 goals were goals a team concedes when they're in a relegation battle just basic individual and collective errors but we never deserved anything today.

Shite that this happened in such an important game that so many had a collective nightmare including the manager but thems the breaks. Still a cracking first season back and hopefully we can push on again next season.

Not a ‘crowd w**k’ question, but my dad seems really disappointed with size of Saints support, and says Well, Killie, St Johnstone regularly fill that stand.

    Any Dundee fans thoughts  welcome.

If it was a massive game, I think St Johnstone (due to distance) and Killie have brought bigger in the past. Can't remember Motherwell bringing a huge support.

It's a decent support you've brought. Not many as I thought you'd bring but certainly good nonetheless.

  13. Never in a million years at the end of the McGhee era did I think that just 2 seasons later we'd be fighting it out for a European spot.

Whether we win, lose or draw today, ultimately it doesn't matter. The progress we've made on and off the pitch from what was one of my lowest ever ebbs supporting Dundee has been phenomenal.

In Gary Bowyer, we had a manager that moulded McPake's duds and despite having his hands tied behind his back, did the job asked. He walked so Tony Docherty could run and Tony Docherty has absolutely revitalised the club and given us something to be proud of and a club that can look to the future with a great deal of positivity.

It'll be a shiter to lose out on Europe to St Mirren when it seems so close but even if that happens, what a season we've had. Finally, for what is at least a decade, Dundee fans have a team to have pride in again.
