  1. This immediately sprang to mind when I saw this. Possibly the same outcome... would be poetic if the same thing happened to Vlad.
  2. Was Chiellini - not Toni, but point stands, shocker.
  3. That's my assumption. Going by the FB groups, one of the men was a very experienced guide from a well known Mountain Guide Company, so that's a possibility. Tragic, and just shows that sometimes it really can be down to luck, as there will be numerous novices who will breeze routes such as AE ridge, but will cause incidents for even the most experienced walkers. I've not done AE yet, and this incident puts things into persepctive and will probably push any attempt back even further.

I was there too, they were excellent... was it them who played "Run Like Hell" by Pink Floyd? Can't quite remember if it was them or the band in the Tullie - I was fair scooped.
  5. @invergowrie arab and @Swello Thanks for the advice. I'm desperate to get out in the Winter when you see pictures. I'd probably do a winter skills day course first for belts and brqcds but am nervous going out in it, but I've no doubt half the folk don't have the correct gear. I want to be well equipped... just annoyed now that my boots are not that far of SLs, so would need to get them too and a lighter pair for summer. Also managed to get a Rab Hard Outershell jacket at an absolute steal... but is not helmet compatible.
  6. curvature of the sole that makes them nice to walk in, means that the crampon could ping off when you really don't want it to. I think microspikes would be safer and these ones are pretty capable (but obviously not for more technical stuff). Cheers for the advice, bit of a bugger as I was split between the Evo Rs, the SLs and the Treks and went for the middle ground! Don't you find the Evos still a bit heavy abd warm for the summer? I'm tempted to try sell the Treks now and get the SLs, so that I have the option for Winter Walking. Yeah, I don't want to be that guy I the news who was rescued from up the hill without the appropriate equipment!
  7. What boots do you guys use for Winter Walking? I think I've made a bit of a boo boo when I bought my Scarpa Trek boots. They aren't B1 rated but still quite heavy and stiff, so not great for summer and not great for winter. I asked the guy in Cotsowold about using them with Monta Rosa Crampons and officially he wouldn't recommend it but would get away with using them on the boots for general walking in snow on plateaus etc. Anyone else used unrated boots? Feel like there's no point in buying B1s if I've got these just to dip my toe in winter walking, as you all know winter boots are a small fortune. Cheers
  8. The cost of living crisis can wait peasants! What a country we live in. Labour run council no less.
  9. Did Buchaille Etive Mor on Saturday. Abaolute roaster of a day, but the midgies were surprisngly horrendous for such a hot/dry day - even at the summit. Also folk on here who have done both Munros (Stob Dearg & Stob na Broig) will know of the absolute heartache when you realise that Stob na Doire isn't a Munro in it's own right! 10.5 miles done in 7 hours, feet were on fire by the end of it, still breaking in my boots, but would probably have gotten away with wearing my trail shoes. Ps. Apologies for lack of photos, don't know how to compress to add more.
  10. "In Time". Good Sci-Film that doesn't look like it couldn't come true in the future.
  11. I tried to persuade my mate to do it from the North East side when we were doing the An Caisteal and Beinn a'Chròin route. Unfortunately he felt 2 Munros was enough that day, so have to tackle the bogfest another day. Did Meall Ghaordaidh by Killin on Sunday, which was about as straight forward as you can get.
  12. Just said on Channel 4 news they are being F-16s as replacement.
  13. I remember seeing the Mujhadeen one on VHS. It's real.
