  1. This is from a Mirror article, written I think by a survivor which quotes the Taylor Report. "Instead, Lord Taylor laid the blame squarely at the door of the police. He highlighted their planning failure which allowed " dangerous congestion at the turnstiles" and ruled that "the immediate cause of the disaster was gross overcrowding, namely the failure, when the exit gate was opened, to cut off access to the central pens which were already overfull. "They were overfull because no safe maximum capacities had been laid down, no attempt was made to control entry to individual pens numerically and there was no effective visual monitoring of crowd density." He hit out at the police's "sluggish reaction and response when the crush occurred" and claimed that the total number of fans who entered the Leppings Lane terrace " did not exceed the capacity of the standing area". So much for the thousands of ticketless fans theory. Did not exceed the capacity of the Leppings Lane end. Which means that ticketless or not, if the police/stewards had directed fans into the more empty pens instead of allowing them to flow into those behind the goals, tragedy might have been avoided.
  2. Absolutely quality film. 10/10. Changeling 8/10 I did not enjoy watching this at all due to the depressing/disturbing nature of the film.
  3. I Love You, Man. 7/10 Actually a really enjoyable film. I didn't laugh out too many times but still really enjoyed it. Paul Rudd is really good in these type of films. Jason Segel wass pretty good too. Some good one-liners. School of Rock 9/10 Watched this on TV on Sunday. Very funny. "No, it means I was drunk yesterday."
  4. Yeah, I might have read it, but the film has now put me off it.
  5. The Time Traveller's Wife Utter rubbish. Plot has massive holes in it and the whole concept is ridiculous. Too far fetched. I don't even think the most fickle of women will enjoy it. Apparently the book is much better. Read a review of it in the Sunday paper which says that the screenplay has written out most of what was good about the book. Also, the guy travels back in time to meet his future wife when she's a child and tell her that he will marry her when she grows up. Surely the fact that he has gone back in time to tell her that is the reason that it happens? And, isn't that grooming? The only thing good about it was the hot dog I got. Also, I don't think it's that long-bonus! Avoid it unless you are incredibly bored. Actually just avoid it at all costs. 4/10 (Being generous)
  6. Yeah, that's quite a good film. Seems a bit like a remake/rip-off of Remember the Titans- now there's a film! This weekend watched Yes Man (7/10) and The Proposal (also just 7/10). Yes Man was okay. Jim Carrey wasn't quite as annoying as he can be and it was an enjoyable enough film. Nowhere near as good as Danny Wallace's book it was based on. It was only very loosely based on it anyway! The Proposal was okay. A bit girly. The usual rom-com carry on.
  7. Gran Torino Very impressive film. I've never seen any Clint Eastwood films from his younger days but might have to look some up. I've seen this and Million Dollar Baby and thought that both were incredible.
  8. I was doing exactly that when I watched it last night. I'm going to give it a 5/10 mainly as I don't know what to make of it. There were times when it was genuinely funny but more often than not it was just cocks on the screen. Very poor in comparison to Borat. I think that the character of Bruno works, it's just not enough to sustain a whole film. Don't bother going to see it. Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist 6/10 Two days into the week and two films watched. This one much more enjoyable than Bruno but not a classic. It's clear the makers have tried to cash in on the success of Juno and that is not just a lazy comparison due to the fact that Michael Cera stars in both films. There are parrallels all over the shop: funky "half animation" opening seqence, young "cool" cast, quirky indie soundtrack. However it is nowhere near as good as Juno. I watched it the whole way through, chuckled a bit, but didn't really care what happened in the end and wasn't that interested in any of the characters. Disappointing.
  9. I have heard that story banded about though. I think to be honest it was probably Super Ro himself that started it making himself look an even bigger hero for bringing in Mileson and "saving" the club.
  10. Founded in 1946. Fulton was the chairman for a time, yes. IIRC he was McGregor's predecessor.
  11. I agree with this. Gretna were a very wellrun club before we gained entry to the SFL and for a couple of seasons after. To be honest, my favourite days of watching Gretna were in the 3rd Division. Without Mileson's influence we'd probably have spent our lifetime quite happily in the 3rd and possibly 2nd divisions. If Mileson had actually paid for the things he "invested" in then I see no problem with it. It was the fact that a lot of the stuff wasn;t actually paid for and we ran up big debts that causes quite so much anger. Anyway, Aidrie and Cowdenbeath set to be promoted and the 3rd Division to go ahead with only 9 teams. Why doesn't the 1st Division just operate wiht 9 teams? Why does it have to be the 3rd that suffers? Anyone like to hazard a guess at who will eventually gain entry into the 3rd division presumably the season after this one? Spartans? Some Highland league club?
  12. Yeah it is pretty funny when he says they have to leave the party as he "just sharted". Only worth watching for his rare comic moments and, of course, for looking at Jennifer Anniston.
  13. Watched The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas the other night. Was really good. Story about a WWII concentration camp. Shows the story from the persepcetive of a Nazi soldier's son and wife. Good ending too.
  14. Star Trek Went to the pictures with the missus on Orange Wednesday. We'd planned to see Nigth At The Museum 2 (don't knwo why) but foolishly I let my missus organise it and check the times. We got there and discovered that NATM2 had started about an hour earlier. So, it was Terminator or Star Trek. I'd heard Terminator was awful (as above) so we plumped for Star Trek. For some reason, despite never having actualy watched the TV series, I hate Star Trek. However, this film, a big showy blockbuster, was actually really enjoyable. Found Simon Pegg as Scotty quite amusing. I'm tempted to give it a ( but it's not quite there. Easy watching, enjoyable movie. 8/10
  15. Raise The Alarm by the Sunshine Underground. Going to see them live tonight. Should be messy!
