  1. Brendan Rodgers today saying its "irresponsible" to make "young players who aren't physically ready regularly play against grown men", while talking about Scott Brown crippling a 16yo. Absolutely tremendous timing.

  2. Bad times this morning on the train; bank of three seats with me at the window and a guy on the outside. At Mount Florida, a 20+ stone womanquake got on and headed straight for the empty seat. Surely she realised she wouldn't fit in the space between us? Nope...she impacted into it like an asteroid causing a mass extinction. I ended up against the window like a bluebottle hit by a newspaper, and the poor guy on the outside was left hanging on by about half a cheek.

  3. Alright, I've finally calmed down after deadline day. I think there's one positive that's been overlooked: Stand up Kerr Waddell. Punched Bain in the puss, is a Dundee laddie and always looks committed to the cause. Like Cammy Kerr seized his opportunity following the departure of Paul McGinn, this could be the making of him. I hope he takes his chance and stamps his place in the starting 11. Get them fucking telt, Kerr. Good luck and thank you.

  4. Don't bother going then. It's the last 16 of the Scottish Cup, and is a fiver less than we'll be charging for a midweek home game to Brechin. 15 quid is perfectly reasonable. Don't think it'll sell out but we should take 700-800 up given our form and the fact it's a novelty. Looking forward to right gid drink for it.

  5. Oh, this is a good one. Specifically focusing on the 'trickle down' argument, please explain how exactly having Celtic and Rangers B teams in League Two will lead to the players who are released by Celtic and Rangers once they become too old for those B teams being better players than they would be under the current loan system. I've already raised the example of Jamie Lindsay recently in this thread. I'll add Ryan Hardie, Tom Walsh, Joe Thomson, Paul McMullan. All of these players have been or currently are on loan to Championship clubs from Rangers or Celtic in the last two seasons. Currently, when players like that who aren't good enough to make it to the first team at Celtic or Rangers are released, Championship clubs can pick them up as players who already have a season or two of experience at Championship level. If there are B Teams in the league, then at the time they're released they'll never have played at a higher level than League Two. In what bizarre parallel universe will that make them better players or more likely to succeed for clubs in the lower leagues than they are currently? You're seriously trying to argue that playing in League Two is better for a player's development than playing in the Championship. This is blatantly utter nonsense. All it's going to do for players who are capable of performing at a higher level than League Two is hold them back and deny them the opportunity to test themselves at a higher level like the Championship. It's bad for the players who don't get the chance to progress by playing at a higher level, and it's bad for Championship and League One clubs who have a source of signings cut off - this in addition to the fact that their own youth systems will already have been restricted by Celtic and Rangers hoarding even more youngsters than they already do. Please either directly address these points in an attempt to justify your position, or hold your hands up and admit that you're talking complete bollocks because you don't have a clue about either youth development or the lower leagues.

  7. I don’t give a f**k about how we can’t win the league, it’s been like that all my life. I just love Dundee FC (most of the time), I love going to Dens, great place and I get my joy from our small victories. I cannot wait for tomorrow. Me and my son will be there, he loves it too. What could be better?

  8. Derek Lyle started the Montrose cup replay (and scored) and started the 3-0 home loss to Livingston that followed. He then missed training the following week through illness and was unavailable for the 2-2 draw at Dumbarton when Chris Kane came on as a sub and turned the game. Over the next 5 or 6 weeks Kane showed excellent form and he didn't manage to get his starting place back prior to pulling his calf against Dumbarton on Jan 2nd. He's still feeling that injury and apparently had a set back after coming back on Saturday there. He's not been fit to play a game since Kane's departure and Fergusson has, so far, done very well. If we spend the second half of the season doing absolutely nothing in front of goal whilst a fit Derek Lyle sits cooling his heels on the bench then you might have a point. At the moment you appear to be complaining that he wasn't being preferred to Kane( who scored 4 in 6 games in that spell) and hasn't been picked whilst injured since!

  9. This sums up my feelings. We play in a sporting competition where realistically only one team (possibly back to two in a few years) can win it because of money. The one with the most wins basically. We rip into each other and celebrate getting one over a rival diddy club, whilst we practically don't acknowledge the team top of the league because they're so far removed. It's pointless really when you think about it. Its the elephant in the room in Scottish football that the media never seem to touch; how shite the lack of competition is. I sympathise over losing a talented player to sit on someone else's bench. We had the same with O'Halloran when he was with us first time round. We all are so used to it we carry on buying our season ticket accepting it as the norm. And yet, if all non-OF club supporters rallied round to force a change, such as a self-imposed financial fair play rules, limits on first team squad size etc, it could be brilliant. It wouldn't compare at all with other leagues in terms of quality, but it doesn't anyway. Crowds would be huge. It would be exciting. Anyway, long winded way of saying I agree.

  11. Maybe you forget that Talbot are not in the pyramid but are free to join it if they want to and get a licence for your 5 star stadium. That sort of undermines anything you’ve prattled on about whilst flinging shite at Burntisland. They are in the pyramid with a perfectly acceptable ground and until such times as junior clubs join in - and the bar is set low according to you so it should be pretty easy - then they are at the correct level and have more direct influence in Scottish fitba than your lot. Join the South of Scotland League for one season and a licence and promotion will be yours then you can look down your nose at Burntisland and fling shite from above instead of below. Until then you have no right to have a go at anyone else, it makes you look like the greeting faced bairn who didn’t get what they wanted from Santa.

  15. Yes, I can see where you're coming from here. Rosenberg are Norway's top team and regular Champions League participants, whilst Hibs have been in several recent Cup Finals.............whereas had he been playing in a Scottish League 2 Colts team that would have made him better prepared for the transition to Celtic's first XI. Got to hand it to you Waster Wastecoat, you absolutely nailed it that time.

  17. If McCann has found another gem, we can then immediately sign him to a 4 year contract only to have that roaster Rodgers (or the *** mob or some English team) start talking him up a month later and then a few months after that we'll see him being unveiled in a Septic jersey after we drop our pants and get spanked again. Being a football fan is so deflating honestly it's hard to believe anybody follows it seriously. I guess we live for the moments like 98th minute match winners, relegating your neighbours, celebrating with pals on away days, and following your team because it's in your blood. I'll be back in my seat hoping we beat County at the weekend because I can't help myself. My Gramps took me to Dens for the first time in 1980, and his Gramps took him to Dens for the first time in 1931 so I am DTID, but I'll be damned if it isn't a kick in the plums a lot of the time. Due to my parents work I spent a lot of time in Canada (as my user name implies) as a kid including my high school years, and when I try to explain how contracts and budgets work in Scottish football to my Canadian friends they are flabbergasted by the whole thing as it's so different to how sports work there. And yes before anyone jumps in and tells me that basically all of world football basically works like Scottish football - a few big teams in the league just run riot over the rest of the teams in the league on and off the pitch - I don't give a s**t about what happens in England or France or Germany, I only care about what happens here sometimes it just feels like beating my head against a brick wall may be a better use of my time than following the Dee. It's an addiction I guess, at least it's better than getting hooked on the smack, I think!

  18. "Protection" in this context presumably involves referees discouraging aggressive challenges by adequately punishing them, thereby "protecting" the potential recipients of these challenges. By saying that players should be protected against Scott Brown, he's essentially saying that Brown doesn't pick up as many cards as he should. Pointing out Hearts' card count is irrelevant because this shows, if anything, that referees are punishing poor challenges by our players. The Graeme Hogg incident would only be hypocritical if Levein thought punching another player didn't warrant punishment. Whataboutery.

  19. I just want to chime in about this conversation regarding Derek Lyle and his involvement in the first team. As many have said there is absolutely no doubting his commitment and desire when he is on the park. His ability to link up play with Dobbie has been telepathic at times and he is one of the most clinical finishers that we have had at the club. That being said, I think what Naysmith is doing is wise. Dobbie has already committed himself to another year with the club and finding a new suitable partner for him this early on will only benefit us for next season to start off strongly. Lyle will no doubt still play a part until his sad departure and I am holding on to hope that he can grab those goals he needs to climb up the record books - but giving more minutes to the likes of Fergusson should be encouraged and will hopefully pay off in the future and (with his current form) the remainder of this season too.

  31. The pyramid is not a closed shop its open to every single club. You're belittling a hard working wee club and fling shite at them. You greet about the pyramid being substandard but cant see that you'd be in the Lowland League within a season of leaving the Juniors. Not defensive or condescending just calling you out. Change doesn't happen by sitting back and waiting for someone to hand it to you.
