  1. Rangers + Celtic: "We want our Colts team to play in the lower leagues. It will benefit the national team." Rangers + Celtic: "We want to host Scotland games at our grounds. It will be good for the national team." Rangers + Celtic: "You want our Scottish players to play games for Scotland? No chance, we've got friendlies against Linfield and Dundalk to think about."

  3. Sensible debate and too much vitriol. It's a fucking half arsed proposal for which the positives outlined are completely laughable. f**k you, f**k the fence sitters, f**k those thinking that this would be worth any money they could offer and f**k the Old Firm. That vitriolic enough for you?

  4. Another joint proposal. Wasn't long ago the Lawwell was busy telling us that Celtic didn't need Rangers and now we have two joint proposals in the first three weeks of the year. If either of them are convinced that their stadia is suitable then they should individually submit a proposal for replacing Hampden. This constant need for Scottish Football to attempt to equalise any benefits across Rangers and Celtic is crass. Maybe if they extended the same courtesy to the other 40 members it would be more palatable.

  6. Forgive me for my laziness and ignorance, but is Gallacher as good as other lads you’ve brought through in recent years? I know he was a bit older when he got his move, but I remember being hugely impressed with Stephen Kingsley a few seasons ago. Now he’s gone on to do fairly well for himself, but not Liverpool degrees of well! After reportedly interesting Barcelona a year or so back I can’t remember ever really being blown away with Gallacher - albeit given the Bairns teams we’ve played so far this season that probably isn’t his fault. Good luck to him anyway. Always nice to see a player from one of our diddy clubs get a great move. Can only imagine how good he’d be if he’d spent the last two seasons playing for an Old Firm youth team in League 2 though...

  10. Oooh cognisance Do you care to outline exactly what needs to be confirmed about this proposal in order for the Cowdenbeath board to make a decision on whether they support it?

  11. People are "sensibly" debating it. Just because people strongly oppose something doesn't mean it's not a sensible debate or a "mob rule feel". I've seen numerous sensible posts in this thread alone which blow this proposal out of the water, I've yet to see anything that sensibly supports it other than trolling nonsense. I've yet to see anyone opposing it due to hatred of the old firm/SFA/SPFL.

  12. There are about six or seven European Cup winners in this line-up. Israel away 1981 (Spain 82 qualifier). In fact, the only players in the team who didn't win at least one major European trophy were McGrain and Rough. A team absolutely littered with Euro-trinkets. McLeish - European Cup Winners' Cup: 1982–83, European Super Cup: 1983 Wark - UEFA Cup: 1980-81 Souness - European Cup (3): 1977–78, 1980–81, 1983–84 Dalglish - European Cup (3): 1977–78, 1980–81, 1983–84, European Super Cup: 1977 Archibald - UEFA Cup: 1983-84 Robertson - European Cup (2): 1978–79, 1979–80, European Super Cup: 1979 Burns - European Cup (2): 1978–79, 1979–80, European Super Cup: 1979 Gray - European Cup: 1979-80, European Super Cup: 1979 Gemmill - European Cup: 1978-79 12 European Cup medals, 5 Super Cups, 2 UEFA Cups, 1 Cup Winners' Cup and way too many runners-up medals to list. What we would give for some of that kind of big-game European experience these days...

  13. With reference to my previous point about the ridiculous argumentsand the architects of the plan clearly not believing them, I'm enjoying the sheer brazenness of some of it. I love the statistic about 37% of players in Scotland teams at U19 level and below not making it to the under-21s, and the fact that those players who fall away 'tend to come from Rangers and Celtic and are replaced with lesser potential Scottish talent who are playing 1st team football at a smaller club where they may access the 1st team earlier' Let's unpack that quote. You'll note the lack of statistics used to support the claim that most of these players come from the OF, despite the extremely specific claim about the numbers not progressing. However, if we accept this claim despite the lack of evidence, what does that say? Supposedly the players taking their places have 'lesser potential' [citation needed and I'd love to see them establish it] but are taking places ahead of OF players because they're getting first team football already. There's a few facets to that. How many players in the under 21s who are getting first team football are doing so in League Two? If the answer is none, how will putting the Celtic and Rangers players into League Two make any difference? If the OF players are indeed more capable than those playing first team football elsewhere but fail to deliver on their potential due to lack of first team football, why are Rangers and Celtic denying them first team football? Maybe the solution to that problem is to force them to select a certain number of young Scots in their squad? Maybe just loan them out to Championship or even other Premiership clubs where they can get first team football at a higher level than League Two? Or maybe Celtic and Rangers could stop hoarding youngsters who have no chance of progressing to their first teams in the first place if the only thing holding them back is a lack of first team football? Jamie Lindsay of Celtic played for Scotland up to under-19 level but failed to progress to the under 21s despite that and is now 22. He has had two Championship loan spells and now a Premiership one. Would he be a better player and knocking on the door of the national team now if he'd been playing for nothing in a League Two team for the last two and a half seasons rather than spending them at a far higher level, working under different managers, learning alongside more experienced players and experiencing real competitive football with two of his loan spells putting him in a relegation battle and the other in a promotion challenge? No, he obviously wouldn't. On the flip side, he's obviously never going to make it at Celtic anyway, so why do they still have him on their books? How is the only solution to improve Jamie Lindsay and every other Old Firm youth product throwing a team into League Two rather than guaranteeing him first team football at a higher level, whether that's through giving him some first team time at Celtic, sending him on loan or just letting him leave entirely? It's almost as if what's best for the development of the player has absolutely f**k all to do with this proposal. Alternatively, maybe Old Firm players not realising their potential isn't the issue at all, and in fact those playing at U19 level fail to progress to U21s because they're not actually the best players at that level? Maybe they've got the whole thing the wrong way round and the fact so many more Rangers & Celtic players are in the U19s than U21s isn't evidence that Rangers & Celtic players are failing to realise their potential and we need to do something to help them realise it, but is evidence that we're picking players with less potential at U19 level because they play for Rangers or Celtic and are ignoring more talented players at smaller clubs, as our scouting of players at that age just isn't good enough? A crazy suggestion I know, but if the boot fits. On the drop off in results from U19 and below to U21 for the national team; maybe this has nothing to do with the players moving from those levels getting first team football? Maybe there's an inherent issue with coaching players in that age group in this country? Maybe under 19 level and below throws up more anomalies in results as it's level where the majority of players have never experienced first team football? I honestly have no idea, but I certainly don't think making a change for changes sake at an entirely unrelated level of the game is the answer. I'm merely speculating at points throughout this post, but I've got as much evidence for it as anyone advocating B teams in League Two has for their back of a fag packet proposals. Fire every single one of them into the sun.

  15. Any anger is directed at the various members of the board over the years. They have put us into this situation thanks to their neglect of Pittodrie and failure to make the most of the opportunities that were available to them over the last 25 years. At the same time they managed to run up cumulative losses of something in the region of £25M over the same period although some of ours fans held up one of their number as some kind of saviour for underwriting the debt to keep the bank off our back. The debt he was fucking instrumental in running up in the first place. It also coincided with the longest trophy-free run the club has endured in the modern (post-war) era and some of the darkest, most painful times in the history of the club. Finishing bottom of the league. Having to endure relegation playoffs. KO’d from the cups & Europe by part-timers. And now we have to listen to our esteemed chairman wish upon a star for a Stronger Rangers. Too fucking right there’s anger.

  16. Mendacity noun untruthfulness. synonyms: lying, untruthfulness, dishonesty, deceit, deceitfulness, deception, dissembling, insincerity, disingenuousness, hypocrisy, fraud, fraudulence, double-dealing, two-timing, duplicity, perjury, perfidy Westhill shopping centre has an M&S, A Costa, a Home Bargains, a Co-op, a Domino’s, a chippy, 3 Indian/Chinese carry-outs and the Key West (a pub with a capacity of maybe 100). There’s also a plethora of card & gift shops… There’s a Holiday Inn (hasn’t been the Westhill Inn for 10 years) across the road with an American Sports Bar themed public bar that might hold 50. Not far off there’s a Tesco and a Brewers Fare style restaurant. The other end of town, actually in Elrick 2 miles away, is the Broadstraik Inn restaurant. About 2 miles in the other direction there’s the Fourmile House, another restaurant. The Red Star is 3.5 miles (1 Hr walk away) and is now Da Giorgio Trattoria Anyone suggesting these are pubs in the style of the Scotia, Pittodrie, Bobbin Mill, Red Lion, Archibald Simpson’s etc etc and so forth is probably the sort of rustic dimwit whose only dealing with the city is mendacity

  18. Another point on this subject. Sevco started life in League two with a squad of players all playing together close to six seasons ago. Are all those players now Scotland international team level, ready to take us to a World Cup? If the main team can't do it, what chance have the Colts got?

  31. Yep - the payments the other clubs get while Celtic pocket the real money (for enduring their routine humpings from bigger clubs) and widening the gap to the other teams year on year. I've never really paid much attention to Rodgers - but after watching his way of working after our league cup semi win over Rangers and then during the 3 games in a week we had against Celtic - he's an arrogant, patronising arsehole. He doles out his pearls of wisdom from his position as the holder of the easiest job in the league to the media who are operating at a level of fawning sycophancy not see since Walter was on the scene. I'm looking forward to the inevitable meltdown when Celtic hit a minor rough patch.

  38. Quick update as promised: Main topic of conversation and the most heated as people complaining about the homophobic chanting at the recent match the board said the police had had no complaints but would review the match to try and take action, Ross reiterated what was said earlier in the season that Dunfermline "would never support" colt teams and that a number of things the SFA or the SPFL had tried to push through or have pushed through have been done exceptionally poorly which I think we already knew that tbh. I was going to ask but someone jumped in front of me Also kudos to the Morton chairman who went in and sat with the Morton fans the ensure that there were no chants or singing about Dean Sheilds and I don't think the club was willing to comment on the other matches played in January but did mention that there was crowd trouble in the away end at both matches. Allan Johnstone has been setting up links with 5 teams in England with a view to set up strong links for loan players either in this window or certainly in the summer window, no teams were mentioned however as we have played both Newcastle and Sunderland this season already I don't think anyone would be surprised if we were linking with them. The catering in Charlie D's and legends was brought up and the club at considering winding down the food sales at the income is marginal however they were talking about bringing in a hot plate into Charlie D's to stop the need to the door which joins the two bars being open and stewarded. 'Safe' standing or rail seating is actively being looked at by a steering group and the club are happy to support it in its early stages however may not be able to stump up the funds which would require more fundraising and the group weren't happy to be fundraising at the same time as the lift fund as they felt that was more important to the club, at this time. I asked if the club ha looked into offering discounted tickets for Premiership clubs season ticket holders on their winter break and said the SPFL had asked championship clubs to offer free tickets for U12's (which we already do) however the SPFL only advertised this minimally and only a few weeks before instead of having it in every premiership teams programme . Over the next 2 years, the floodlights will be renovated and a scoreboard will be installed at EEP as part of us hosting the Ladies European Championship (or some other women's football tournament) Also soon we will be shooting the pigeons that live at EEP (yes that really was discussed) Think I have summarised about everything it was a good turnout tonight and some lively discussion, safe to say the folk who moan the most were nowhere to been seen and as I come away from every meeting with Ross I get the feeling the club is in a better place than the last time I heard him speak.
