  1. If the board sanctioned a move for Vaughan right after letting Callachan go, we'd all be roaring back to the board room with pitchforks.

  9. This happened to me as well. I was on my way to Morganville, which was what they called Shelbyville back in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days nickels had pictures of bees on them. "Gimme five bees for a quarter" you'd say.

  11. My original post on the general subject of ambition and belief is similar to your theme. I agree that we have been out of the top flight for so long that the fans just don't believe it can happen to us. If you look at teams in a similar bracket to us we are one of the few if not the only team from our broad peer group who have not taken our place in the top league over the past 50 years. Teams like Airdrie, Morton, Raith, Hamilton, Dumbarton Falkirk,Inverness, Livvy, Ayr - have all had seats at top table. I have excluded Gretna and Ross County due to the financing that they have benefitted from and you could probably add Livvy as well. If you take two individuals or two teams of broadly equal ability - one with burning ambition and one with a "what will be attitude" it is pretty obvious that the ambition will drive results and achievement on a bigger scale over the piece. Don't get me wrong with the sort of competition that we have faced in recent years an over supply of drive and ambition would not have gained us promotion. I remember Dobbie saying upon his arrival - " that he had unfinished business here and he wanted to help take us up". I loved that comment because it is exactly what I wanted to hear - someone who was thinking big and had a clear objective. I don't think I heard anyone at the club reinforcing Dobbie's statement and it was really left out there as a "lone voice". This year is a perfect case in point - as things stand we are about 8/1 to 10/1 to win the league. If we were to string some good results together in next few weeks we might just shorten to around 5/1. Now that is as short as we have probably ever been in recent memory so it reinforces the fact this years title race is wide open. I may be in the minority - no surprise there, but we need the Management and Club in general to start leading us on this journey. I would bet that Dobbie will already be looking at the table and the competition and thinking we can win this but we need more than him believing especially Gary Naysmith. The team with biggest budget doesn't always prevail. Of course it would take a monumental effort for us to edge out say Dundee United but of course it is possible. I get all the other reasons why crowds are dropping alarmingly at Palmy but the biggest single reason is the lack of belief that we can really compete to achieve promotion.

  15. Why couldn't Young have worded his statement like 'We understand the lure for Ross to play in the top league. His importance to us as club captain and to our own aims of promotion ensured we obtained the best possible deal for Raith Rovers' Let's cut out this can't stand in his way bullshit once and for all

  16. I think £35-£50k is probably a fair price but at the moment he is worth more than that to us. We have a miniscule squad as it is, we are now losing our captain (who seems to have managed to foster a togetherness that wasn't there last season) and at this late stage won't be able to get a decent standard of replacement in. The plus side is that there will be no more need to duck every time Callachan is ready to wind up a 30 yarder.

  17. There's a few folk on here who for ages have been claiming Callachan is hopeless, but are now saying we're not getting anywhere near enough money for him, which is strange.

  19. See if there were less fans willing to give shite players a chance then the world would be a better place. Fraser Aird and Balatoni, for example, would be plying their trade with some backwater Ayrshire Junior side and neither of our clubs would be lumbered with such obviously terrible players. Football fans are morons.

  20. Robinson's already said that the other signing's an experienced centre half to replace Heneghan. Speaking of Heneghan. The Record seem to think that we got a deal worth £400k for him. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/motherwell-star-ben-heneghan-completes-11090257?1

  21. Quick watch of his wyscout and he looks decent enough. Couple of nice finishes and a couple of poachers goals. Time will tell but the club can't be criticised at all for their efforts in terms of incoming players this window. Got everything we needed in my opinion. Now up to the players and McCann now.

  22. We'd crash out without any deal, which would have all sorts of disastrous consequences, many of which clearly had never occurred to the likes of Gove, Davis, Johnson et al. For one thing, it's possible that all flights leaving the UK for the EU would be grounded, as we'd be leaving the Open Skies agreement. When May promised to leave ECJ jurisdiction it hadn't occurred to anyone that this would mean leaving EURATOM, which would leave us unable to import fuel for our nuclear power stations or radio-isotopes for our hospitals' CT scanners. I'm not someone who thinks Brexit voters were all idiots. I've got a couple of friends who voted for Brexit who put forward reasonable arguments for doing so. But with each day that passes it becomes clearer that: a) The general public (and I include myself in this) had no real understanding of what the EU was even responsible for, and shouldn't have been given a vote on it in the first place. b) Our politicians are under qualified and under prepared to deal with the fallout. c) Theresa May's decision to activate Article 50 before we were ready, and then waste months of valuable preparing/negotiating time on a pointless general election which she didn't even win, will mark her down as one of the worst Prime Ministers in modern British history. Like Eden and Cameron before her, she'll be remembered as the person in charge when Britain picked up a shotgun, examined it carefully, and then blew our own f*cking nuts off.

  32. Herron being lined up to replace him. As for the "can't stand in way" quote seems it seems that's from our esteemed chairman Mr Young. Honestly the sooner that guy leaves the club the better.

  33. http://www.raithrovers.net/31375/ross-callachan.htm See, this above is the kind of bullshit that undermines confidence in the board. We know there isn't sufficient cover. Every arsehole and his dug can see we have two fit and ready centre mids at the club now.

  34. Fully expect Ross Matthews to step into the shoes of Callachan right away. More than capable of fulfilling that potential and is a few years younger, too. Would expect captaincy to go to Benedictus. All the best to Callachan, I wish him every success in his career. The term gets thrown around a lot but a he's been a fantastic servant. Joined aged 13, played right through the youth system and went on to captain the side (albeit short lived). A true product of Raith Rovers.

  36. Guy walks into a pub and the fruit machine starts swearing at him and telling him he looks like shite. A small dish of peanuts on the bar then starts commenting on how nice the guy's hair is and how well he's dressed. "The f**k's going on here?" he asks the barman. "Oh, the fruit machine is out of order and the peanuts are complimentary".

  37. £80k+ Now, there is absolutely no way anyone will pay that for him. But, he is worth almost the difference in revenue between the Championship and League One, because as one of our better players him not being here could be the difference between promotion and another season in this league. I would rather we refused to sell and he left for free, in order to maximise our promotion chances. Anything but a high fee and it isn't worth it for us.
