  1. That was one of the few times I've been on the pitch. Full time whistle went and I ran on, vaulting the hoarding, zig-zagging through over-enthusiastic stewards and evading plods' vain attempts at catching me. I did the obligatory patting the players on the back as I ran past them until a couple of us got to an ecstatic Jim Duffy whose immortal words will stay with me until the day I die: "Get aff the pitch lads".

  2. First of all, I realised I cocked up my username after I'd made it. Secondly of all, thank you all so much for your kind words about the passing of my father, Campbell Smith. I have been tearing up reading them all. Dumbarton football club was his life! When I was a bairn he was a steward at bigheeded and used to take me down every week. He was placed at the top of the stairs of the main stand so he could watch all of the match. He got me selling programmes and earning a few quid every week at the old ground. When the move to the rock happened, we missed the first match because we were in Florida but we were back for the following. After a while, presumably because he then had to work with his back to the game, he chucked being a steward to become a full time fan again like he was when he was a boy going with his grandfather. He took my sister, Kerry, down to the matches, but she was only interested in playing dolls with her cousin, Alison. I moved away in 2014 and started comibg to the matches for a few months before I left so I can spend a few weekends drinking beer and wawashing the sons with the old man and I've been to a few since I got back. I'll be taking up his season ticket for the remainder of the season so deepest apologies to Robert, katrina and the bankie in front for the shite banter you're gonna have to hear for the next few weeks! A special thank you to the club for the kind tribute on the Web page today as well. Thank you all. Reading these does help a lot with what we're going through at the moment which has been frankly awful. He was an amazing man, father, husband, friend and my personal hero who I will never forget! See you all very soon from Sean M72! Sean Smith

  4. Wtf is going on at our club? We've got players running around in Sevco kit, a Chairman making political speeches on the website, some fans being able to buy more tickets than we have seats at the expense of other fans ... it's fucking shambolic.

  5. We're back in NL after a mighty fine Easter Weekend in Edinburgh and that beautiful four-seasons-in-one-day trip up to Arbroath. Have to laud everyone at the club for their hospitality and genuine kindness to two complete strangers who wiggled their way onto the bus. Hope everyone enjoyed the stroopwafels, and hope to see you all back at the new Meadowbank one day. No doubt that it'll be for League football as I have no doubts City are staying up. Missing my bff Mr. Blobby though (Credit for pic goes to the good people at Abroath FC)

  7. See these fancards we have - Isn't it about time we used them a lot better? Instead of selling individual paper match tickets every Falkirk fan should have 1 of these. That way when you buy a ticket FFC are very aware of how many home games you've been too recently. Come games like playoffs and cup finals we Could operate a simple loyalty scheme. ST holders can buy a ticket. People with 10-18 matches can buy a ticket. People with 1-9 matches can buy a ticket General sale. We have the technology in place already.

  8. I really don't think John Hughes and Raith Rovers is any more than a marriage of convenience. I'm not sure he'd fancy sticking around after the summer, and maybe I've just missed them, but I've not read too many words of praise about him from the players since he come in. I certainly don't get the impression he's created a decent atmosphere since arriving. Considering we've so many players signed up for next term, I'd imagine it would probably be better for all parties if we brought a new man on board. As for Goodwillie coming back, I'd rather see the return of Claude Anelka to be honest.

  9. Don't usually like to double-post, but finished my write-up on City's strip for this season for my football shirt site. Give it a read if you like (and if you run the club's Facebook page, do consider posting a link to it and my site's Facebook page *hint*hint*nudge*nudge*); https://club25football.wordpress.com/2017/04/19/matchworn-edinburgh-city-20162017-home-shirt/

  10. I've no problem facing a guy who has had one good season in the Scottish third tier.

  11. I'd agree also. Exceptional 1st season. Good to very good 2nd season. 3rd season wtf has happened to him. His commanding of the 18 yard box in the 1st season and reflex saves were a joy to watch. Easily the best since Speroni in his 1st 2 seasons. Started to worry about him pulling out of Scotland squads. I would've thought a young keeper would be desperate to be in and around the national squad instead of pulling out with end of season niggles. Could've got himself a great move that would've set him up for life.

  13. Well, bottom line was Hartley's time was up for various reasons covered already. So somebody had to come in and the board were unlikely to go for a long term appointment at this stage of the season. On the bright side the remaining games are against teams that Dundee are well capable of beating if properly motivated and set up. That's a pretty big if considering there is little margin for error. So the first thing the new manager has to do is bring the squad together, then work on a formation that will bear fruit. This responsibility has fallen on the shoulders of Neil McCann, he seems quite relaxed so far and that isn't necessarily a bad thing if he can pass that on to the players as stress can lead to panic and mistakes. The question is can he pull of The Great Escape with little managerial experience? He still has an experienced back room team and as a favourite son he'll have the support of the crowd. He needs the results to affirm that and keep the Dees in the top flight. I hope he can pull it off but it's going to be an interesting few weeks. Good luck. Thank you.

  16. I think I've reached the point where rather than viewing Trump as a young, exciting player who can pot anything and usually tries to and wanting this brand of snooker to succeed, I now take too much pleasure in watching his shite shoes, poor attempt at covering his hairline and listening to John Virgo crying to want him to win. That he's being put out by a boring jobber like McLeod is all the sweeter.

  18. Agreed. The smarmiest adverts since those horrible Kodak ones back in the day. Also, the "nana" in those ads looks maybe 45. The grandson looks 10 or 11. Maybe if she spent a little less time priding herself on what seems a pretty basic soup recipe, and a little more time teaching her daughter not the repeat her own family planning mistakes, then she wouldn't be squandering her middle-age on looking after the truanting wee shit.

  19. Why should season ticket holders get access to any extra tickets other than their own one? Yes they should have priority to purchase their own ticket over patg fans but that should be it surely. Of course if their friends that are season ticket holders cant make it to the ticket sale then its not a problem with them bringing along their friends seasons to get their tickets but that should be it. They got grief last season from season ticket holders for making an arse of it and now they've gone far too much the other way. Total shambles.

  20. As much as I despise diving/simulation/exaggeration/making the most of it, there was an incident recently, can't remember who, where the player was fouled in the box but stayed on his feet and the ref waved play on. He said when he asked the ref about it he was told he would have given it if he had gone down. What chance have you got of eradicating diving from the game if refs are scared to give decisions like that?

  23. it's tough for us, Tam. Usually teams look forward to home games against their rivals to bring in a bit of revenue however for some reason the last time Yinited came to visit only a handful of them showed up. No idea why.

We have a club now to support in West Lothian, its not been easy with one clown after the other running or should that be ruining the show down Almondvale way. As for you guys tam,i know your still bitter about what happened, you hav City to follow now and i wish you's every success in staying up this season and beyond.

  28. Imagine we get Hamilton away in the final. A ground of 6000, we would be lucky to get 2500 seats. So by giving season ticket holders 10 extra tickets that means the first 250 in line could have sold it out. Now I know this wont happen. But I was gobsmacked as much as any last season when I showed up to get tickets. I had just got the weeks shopping, nipping down thinking "i'll be two minutes". 3 and a 1/2 hours later....My frozen shopping was ruined, I lost my rizzla skins so had to smoke an Asda receipt.....It was fucking melting...I am not going through that again... It'll mean taking time off work or at the weekend to bloody queue, loads of pissed off season ticket holders yet again. If it was 1 per season ticket, it would be a slow trickle during the course of the day...Every season ticket holder would get one. No one gets pissed off. This is just madness. By all means for the first few games, allow an extra ticket perhaps, as the demand isnt there. But if we get to the final its just going to be another farce.

  30. I think this is something that has been blown out of proportion from last year. Killie had a few bigger players in the 2nd leg like Magennis, Addison and Boyd but they also had guys like Obedayi, Kelty etc. We were dead on our feet and spend 180 mins punting aimless long balls which I think has distorted peoples memories.

  36. tbf we might be seen as being a touch more attractive, from a managers perspective, than a host of other SPFL clubs? Not meaning that in any disrespectful way but surely the recent substantial Thistle - Weir youth investment, lack of bank debt, new training ground on the horizon, potential further investment from the Weirs in some capacity etc. would interest some slightly higher calibre coaches than a few of our peers? When Archie goes I think we'll be spoilt for choice for a replacement, rather than scrambling for some hapless journeyman shite or a Sky Sports pundit.

  37. This constant obsession with how our game is perceived in England is beyond tiresome. Derek Adams also talking an absolute power of shite with regards to how strong the standard of football in England's League Two is. It's a horrific level of football where jobbers like Graham Carey, Jake Jervis and Gregg Wylde shine through.

  39. He was a top bloke who made me very welcome when I started to follow the Sons. He was aware of my own health issues and he wanted to know how to help me if I had a seizure. He contacted me regularly recently as I had missed a few games. He was never slow to have a laugh as we did often. He was the type of person who just loved his family and his team. An absolute pleasure to have spent time with and I will carry his name given to me as "the Clydebank Casual" for ever. Big hugs to my pal missing you already.

  41. It's only taken 6 months for the Cardy's wish to be fulfilled. So, in the spirit of his post and the thread, I'll say, What a shower of precious jealous diddy quizzers you are I hope to get better than 6 today to help me out of the relegation zone and also best wishes for a decent scrap to whomever I face in the forthcoming cup semi as long as it's not that St J fan whom everyone thinks is a Dundonian. A real chance for a new name on the trophy.

  43. Your club might be new, but it's the same **** that followed the last club. The same bunch of greeting faced twats that sat back and watched their club die as they held up the pished stained Bennett banners stating "they deserved better". And you'll still be the same deluded **** if ever end up supporting another version of a Rangers FC in the future. **** THEN **** NOW **** FOREVER.
