  1. He was banned while playing for Reading in 1999 after testing positive for cocaine and cannabis, never used heroin. He was an alcoholic, after Reading sacked him the PFA in England put him through rehab and he sorted himself out. He revealed late on his career that he'd been sexually abused as a child and turned to drink and drugs as a coping mechanism; he went through therapy to deal with that and depression, he's been sober since about 2000. Within a year of getting out of rehab he'd won a Scotland cap and was playing in Europe. As an aside, before going public about the abuse as a child, he told Jim McInally, who was his manager at Morton at the time. He revealed that he was still on medication to deal with depression which arose from what happened to him and wanted to open up to his manager, both to ready himself for potentially being more open about it in the future and just to have someone he trusted within football to talk to about it. McInally's response was to give him the cold shoulder then release him via a phone call a few weeks later with no pay off despite the fact he'd played enough games to automatically trigger a contract extension under the terms of his deal. The next time you see some puff piece in a tabloid saying how nice Jim McInally is and how everyone in football respects him, remember that he's actually a despicable, shameless b*****d.

  3. I'm several days behind, but I heard the Spiers/Pressley one today. Sweet Jesus, as an exercise in point missing, it was truly top notch. I don't think the discussion was helped by the silly tabloid billing of how we might be missing out on the next Dalglish. That was a throwaway remark from McLaren and was utterly beside the purpose of what he does. His raison d'etre is not to unearth a superstar, but is to improve lives that could use his input. However, the pitch of the story led Spiers down a path of arguing against some non existent drive to reverse the slum clearances. He was maybe right in that it's not a notional 'working class' that is now disenfranchised. The issue though is that it's still a significant constituency and its exclusion is thoroughly unjust. I think he realised what a twat he'd come across as when messages came in, and he did some backtracking re poverty. The fact that he'd already prattled on about his own kids' opportunities to play tennis and rugby did render him a bit of a fool in the discussion though. But Pressley took idiocy to new, previously undocumented levels. He honestly could not see a discussion about abject poverty and what football based projects could do, in any terms beyond those related to the development of professional footballers. It was genuinely embarrassing. His slow, deliberate delivery had never conned me into thinking he was as clever as he does. It had perhaps though, masked the fact that he's actually pretty thick. A bewildering performance that's kind of depressing.

  5. Big River 2.40 at Kelso today 4/1. Ran mostly well in 2nd on its last race (couple of dodgy jumps as it started gettting competitive towards the end). Back on ground that suits today, goes off rock bottom weight plus has the assistance of an in form 7lb claimer today. Might have some competition from Seeyouatmidnight who is potentially angling towards the Scottish national and has won some good races in its time but pulled up when last seen over 4 months ago.

  7. Thankfully it's looking likely that Calderwood will never work in football again. Although it's nice to read him bleating to the papers about how he can't understand why no club will take him on every once in a while.

  10. My plans for the weekend were a quiet few drinks at my pal's 30th last night, 50 miles on the bike today, then driving over the Skye to camp on one of the Cuillin ridge's outlying summits. Instead I got absolutely cunted on Sloe Gin, feel fucking rotten today and have just been reminded by my other half that I got up at 3am and pished on the hoover. Might not bike the 50 miles tbh.

  11. Fairly put, matey, but you're not yer average Jungle, are you? Just as the the rangers rely on their idiotic horde, so do celtic rely on the income from loons identifying with potatoes, armalites, and all that guff. Strip the pair of them down to actual football fans, and we'd see a healthier competition. And a healthier society, to boot.

  13. The Adventures of James Penrice - Part 3 Since the last report, this boy has just been getting better and better, an exceptional "man's" performance against Livingston two weeks ago when he was up against some big, experienced, shall we say clever, players and he flew through it with flying colours, as did all the team to be fair, and then on Saturday past an amazing performance, not only proving he could be in the running for a place in the League One Team of The Season, which will be getting picked soon, with his defensive displays, his attacking skills are getting highlighted now with his work with King Kev Smith up the left wing, but his confidence is now at the level that he is chancing his mit with some shots, something we haven't seen from him yet, but we did against Alloa!!! His display not only won him the Match Sponser's MoM award, he was also awarded it from the local press and the weekly Supporter's Award on Social Media, you are going to get such a better player back than the one you gave us and the one you gave us was quite good, that I'm actually jealous!!! Here's the game, there's only about 4 mins of action but he's involved quite heavily in it!!! And also after such a performance obviously the press want to talk to him, so his media training is still coming on!!! I really don't think he'll be getting farmed out again next season, I don't know who your current Left-Back is but he must be some player if he's going to keep this lad out your side!!! Saying that though, you know we'll have him back!!!

  15. Lead article currently on the BBC website is about their live coverage of the Challenge Cup Final. Right next to it the top article is 'League overshadows Challenge Cup Final'. All involved in Scottish football continue to show they graduated from the Gerald Ratner school of sales.

People get together in large groups and approach insurance companies as a collective and ask for a quote for everyone, taking into account pre-existing conditions etc but meaning the same premium for everyone. Sounds communist to me. America's weird.

  21. Your meltdown after your team won a draw at Celtic Park has got to place you into the uber diddy category with the amount of shite you posted that night. Multiple spelling errors and bad grammar was a delight to read post after post and not to mention the ned like slurs you were posting made you look like the folk you were insulting on a daily basis for many years. The mask slipped.

  22. Templeton Yep: you clearly had to bat off a host of suitors to get that free agent at the end of March. If that was the sum of Hamilton's big announcement over the international break then you're clearly fucked. 'Welcome to League One' fucked frankly; any credible club would have ditched their failing manager instead.

  24. Barry Ferguson's last 10 league games as Clyde manager: W0 D2 L8 F8 A20 If the players are "arguably better than the league" it says a lot about Barry Ferguson's managerial abilities that he contrived to get such abysmal results. Alternatively, the players are in fact shite and no manager could be expected to do any better with them, in which case it says a lot about Barry Ferguson's managerial abilities that he contrived to build such a poor squad with one of the best budgets in the division.

  25. Fun fact: nine out of eleven DR and SM 'journalists' at the start of the season tipped "Barry Ferguson's Clyde™" to win the League Two title this season. In any credible business, they'd be getting sacked for such gross incompetence covering Scotland's only credible sport.

  26. We played the same courses last year (New, Eden, jubilee) and it chucked it down for the last 8 holes on the Eden. Absolutely miserable but it was my best scoring course of the weekend. Meant to be a cracking day today though.

  27. Played the Eden a couple of years ago in the wind and it would have got golf stopped. Balls rolling about the green and falling off the tee, it was ridiculous. When the wind blows on that course it's hard to concentrate on your shot. Wouldn't mind going back to play it on a nice day as it seemed a good course but I still have nightmares about it.

  35. Had a libation at the Hanging bat on Lothian road at around 1700 this evening and a few things annoyed me. 1) It was full of c***s. 2) The toilets weren't clearly sign posted and it had been a while since I was last in so had forgotten where they were, and then on the doors instead of clearly saying male/female it said batman/bat woman and a picture that I presume was meant to resemble a bat but instead just looked like some weird design and just didn't work at all. Just clearly show where the toilets are ffs. 3) When inside the batman toilet the urinals were supposed to resemble a metal beer barrel that had been cut in half at the horizontal axis and mounted to the wall, this again just didn't work and looked like the metal edges would be rather sharp and I didn't feel comfortable having my penis out near to a potentially sharp edge. It reminded me of days when I used to take tin snips to an empty can of irn bru, those edges are just so sharp. 4) The female bar staff appeared to be malnourished and one of them referred to me as "man" as well as if I was some sort of trendy hipster. I don't think I'll go back there.

  39. Jeez - Trump's 'Time' magazine interview is an absolute fucking doozy ... still stands by all the shite he's spouted - the guy is mental. Bigly. Sad. He's still claiming that he predicted Brexit when he was in Scotland the day before the vote despite not arriving in Scotland until the day after the vote and Tweeting that Scotland had taken it's country back. His comments about Sweden were justified because of riots that happened after he said it. There's just to much shite to even mention. Guy's a fucking roaster.

  42. The king is dead, long live the king. Unfortunately the king is now a guy who was involved with us when we finished lower than we are now in a league sans Hearts and Rangers. I was broadly a McGhee supporter but in a way I'm glad he's gone because, if I'm right, McGhee can no longer be used as a scapegoat for much larger and wider trends at the club by supporters. Personally I think a lot of our support has unrealistic ambitions for a club the size and budget of today's fan owned Motherwell. They have been spoiled by almost 20 years, with the occasional blip, of relative success and now they are struggling to adjust to a new reality. I'd love to be proved wrong because I go to almost every match and I'd prefer to see wins than 1-5 drubbings but I honestly don't see us getting significantly better, we won't get anywhere near Top 6 this season or in the foreseeable future and even if we stay up, next season will be even harder to compete with another city club coming into the league. On our current budget, which I support by the way, we can't turn over the sort of accounts we were in the Higdon/Randolph/Nicky Law days and financially survive, I just can't see us not getting relegated in the near future. 30 years of Premier level football has given too many of our support a Billy-Big-Boy attitude. They conveniently forget we should have been relegated numerous times in that period and that those 30 years are not on merit. My overview is that I think a lot of people are in for a big shock post McGhee. Maybe it will sink in, or maybe they'll just blame Samson.
