  1. Just wanted to share this on this special day.

  2. Maybe your real life persona is nothing like your shtick on here but if it's not I can maybe guess at the problem. Folk who never shut the fuck up about how they're such hard working go-getters and everyone else is lazy scum are not ridiculed for their ambition. They're self congratulatory, usually delusional (and often actually Tory) bores and naturally people can't be fucked with that. Please do explain though how it is that you "just cannot get anything done" up here? Who is getting in your way exactly?

  3. Why would the Trust have an alternative plan or assess a move to anywhere when we have absolutely no need to move from our current location and they are not the owners of the club? This move is only on the table so Brabco can make money. Anything else about being bad neighbours, needing a bigger venue etc is bullshit. The move is a profit making move that is not required, at all.

  5. Much as I agree it's great that we are playing well, my problem with attributing it to Houston is that many of his recent decisions were reactions problems that were there for all to see for months if not longer. Playing Gallacher ahead of Leahy seemed dodgy and it's no surprise that we look more solid at the back with him back in. McCracken has been a liability every time he's taken to the park this season and Mark Kerr, although being less of a problem, is still looking like it's a season too far. Sibbald looks way better in the middle but I remember listening to the commentator on our cup game against Dundee last season point out exactly that, months after everyone else had already picked up on it. Watson is more mobile than Gasparotto, but that's not some massive revelation, he needs a more mobile player next to him. Taiwo isn't a right winger and looks substantially better when he's doing the job he's best at, defending the midfield. What was most frustrating for me was that the team that started the game against DU, and played them off the park, have been largely available since the start of the season but instead we've had to watch Kerr, Rankin and Taiwo midfield line-ups how many times? If Rankin hadn't walked due to lack of game-time we'd still have the potential to suffer that mind numbing stupidity yet again. How many times has he buried Sibbald on the left or started McCracken and Gasparotto and wondered why we've been done for pace? Houston hasn't performed a miracle here, he's just started playing players in their preferred position and fitting the formation around the players rather than the other way round (with the exception of Craigen who is adapting well to the right wing but still looks a bit lost at times and gets dragged in-field).

  7. I'm resigning from the diddy cup to concentrate on the league. On second thoughts it's a bit like fielding an unregistered player, harsh but our fans are delighted to go through on a technicality. WillieA can gtf.

  8. Just finished leg day. 3×15 barbell squats 3x15 dumbell lunges 3x15 dumbell deadlifts/3×20 kettlebell swings superset 3x15 leg extensions/3x15 leg curl superset 3x15 calf raises I have never known jelly legs like it. My gym has a big flight of stairs in the entrance/exit and I severely struggled to get down them - had to walk down sideways while holding onto the handrail. I must've looked cool as fuck. Got downstairs and waddled about 200 yards to my car. Just about managed to lower myself into the driving seat. Sat down and realised I had left my phone up in the gym...

  9. Quick response on some of the above: * Does the trust have a plan? Well, three and a half years ago we produced the outline of a 'Vision Strategy' (discussed at two AGMs) which began the process of looking at how we want the club to move forward, and the role of fans as serious stakeholders in that. It was the beginning of a 'business modelling' project. Then the stadium move proposal came on the table, and we shelved the plan while we put our energy into dealing with that. But we have said (as I reported at the AGM on 11th November) that we need to get back to the business of looking at plan for different possible scenarios, and we intend to do so after the upcoming Trust Board meeting with Brabco. * Does the trust have any other plan? Yes, to remind you, we are actively looking at transitioning the trust to a member-based Community Interest Company, which would enable us to undertake social enterprise business initiatives and fundraising, and would also provide a possible model for the club in the future (a CIC is a private company which commits to operating in the community interest and has a legal lock on its assets for that purpose). * Should we stay or should we go (the club re. the stadium, that is)? There are risks and advantages to both options, and the jury is still out. Both need some serious business planning, no doubt. Drawings and wish-lists aren't enough. We shouldn't move to a new stadium unless that can be shown to be workable and sustainable for the club. On the other hand, if the move doesn't come off, there are big challenges ahead too. I'm a little less sanguine than O'Kelly Isley III on that, but I won't get into all of that right now... One thing is certain: a plan is needed. We are talking with the club about that. Simon

  10. I've said it before and I'll repeat it; DFC does not require any relocation but Brabco certainly does in order to justify it's raison d'etre. And I'd go further than that, the failure to properly maintain the current facility, allied to feeding the notion of the 'bad neighbour' into public consciousness has been part of a concerted strategy of building a case for a move. And yes, a 'bad neighbour' does form part of Planning consideration, but the truth is that it has no basis in reputation or fact relating to the current site; and as has been already been pointed out, the football club was in situ before the adjoining residential developments - caveat emptor and all that. Sure, we have a dip at one corner. Can it be addressed ? Yes. Do we move house every time the kitchen ceiling forms a crack ? As far as I'm aware all the other problems can be dealt with also. All that is required is financial investment and the commitment to go with it; the current ground is (in my opinion) perfectly adequate for the needs of DFC right now and well into the future. I would therefore ask yourself, why then do we need any alternative, reasonable or otherwise ?? And if you are being honest you'll reach the conclusion that many of us did some time ago. Jessie J even sang a song about it....

  11. Morning folks. Well after all the soul searching and a sleepless night I have received a further message from WillieA. He had himself said that he will concentrate on the league thus allowing Welshbairn to progress without protest. Fair play to WillieA [emoji122]. Thank you for all your suggestions and to Kincy for his volunteering to retire from the cup. Right, so the cup goes on as planned and the draw takes place on Wednesday as previously stated. I do believe a precedent ha been set though and scores received out with the stated time will not count unless a note is received prior to the tie from your parents with a valid excuse.

  16. I'd want everyone who lives and works in Scotland to have a vote in a future referendum, regardless of where they were born. I'm not actually bothered about who that's more likely to benefit, but no one living here should be left out of the discussion.

  17. Only watched it in pub with no sound but my take- We were correct in taking the conversion quickly- in France with French TV / stadium edit looking at anything not clear cut! Mistake was being so close to the posts means the French centre would have been on him if he tried to pick it up. That said that would be less embarrassing. I don't think Price did anything that bad in the game. Thought he did well overall. The penalty was daft but I felt he was unlucky there. I've been banging on for years that it is a mistake not to bleed another scrum half at 60/70mins in internationals- or indeed not start Price in games such as Georgia to give experience at that level to him. The fact he stepped in at international level via France in Paris, when we had lost multiple captains and leaders and didn't do badly is a credit to him. Russell is continually up and down at Glasgow. Getting consistency is his next development at 10. Hogg is truely world class 15. Scrum is an issue but we lack experience all round in front row. Don't think it is as bad as people are making out as a lot is inexperience of how to manage a weaker scrum at international level. Nell is excellent at that. If Dickinson manages back then we will take an immediate step forward. Our worst area is under the high ball and not being able to catch a bloody restart! I love the fact the 6 Nations gets people who don't usually watch rugby into it, but over the weekend some of the social media comments (and indeed MSM!) around a defeat in Paris are over the top and in other instances wrong!

  22. Sorry for not having been around on PnB for a while - I'll catch up with comments / questions and add anything if needs be. I'm guessing most of you saw the Lennox Herald (http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/local-news/dumbarton-fc-make-case-135m-9785118) and the Reporter (http://www.dumbartonreporter.co.uk/news/15084485.Stadium_move_goes_before_community_council/) last week. You've already had some feedback about the Silverton and Overton Community Council meeting. I will be at the Dumbarton East and Central one tonight. The Reporter will have a *much* bigger piece (front lead and page 7 today), including a full statement from the Sonstrust, coming out today. Look out for that and please DO write in to the paper with your views. Our trust board (https://sonstrust.wordpress.com/trust-board/) is scheduled to meet with Ian Wilson of Brabco this weekend. One of the tasks after that will be to get the promised FAQ together, so that questions here and elsewhere don't have to get repeated and answered in a piecemeal way. Also, has been said above, **we need the largest number of people on board with the trust** so that we can continue to hold this stadium development process to account, to engage with it, and make your voices heard. Join here or see Tommy Hughes on match days: https://sonstrust.wordpress.com/join-here/ As always, you can always PM me here, or I'll let you have my email, if you want to ask anything further. Cheers, Simon

  23. Hah. Welcome to my world. You may have thought this job would be all handing out trophies and bathing in champagne, but in reality, you have to make heart-wrenching decisions that can have far-reaching consequences. Whichever decision you go for, it's the wrong one

  25. Just listened to the podcast of the programme. Richard Wilson cheerleading Rangers and Dave King through the entire show? Dearie me. You could actually hear Tom English openly laughing at him. Kris Boyd steadfastly refusing to acknowledge that there's been any controversy around Billy Davies at the clubs he's managed was some effort too.

  27. It's much more difficult for students from outside the EU to work here after graduating, and the UK is about to stop young, dynamic Europeans to come here at all, and are threatening to kick out the ones that are already here, contributing to our pension fund. It's got nothing to do with Scottish cultural attitudes.

  31. My brother's former neighbour was an old guy who everyone called 'Colonel' but he assumed it was all a bit of a laugh. He died a few years back and at his funeral one of his old army mates stood up and ran through his service in the Army - he'd been part of the Highlanders at Dunkirk, who had continued fighting the Germans while others escaped, I think they were the last British soldiers to surrender in Europe in 1940. He then escaped from his POW camp and was sent to Colditz for the remainder of the war. Not a word of it to anyone, although maybe if he'd had Facebook he'd be sharing Marine A pages like a boss.

  34. while I agree with the description, I don't think that the club itself looks like the worst offender on that evidence. What looks bad is the culture of that time and place where marrying a catholic is considered noteworthy. In particular, and on topic, what looks really bad is that rag considering it newsworthy. I get the impression from that piece that the orcs quoted genuinely thought that they were being all liberal and inclusive by not objecting to the marriage. I didn't grow up in an area where sectarianism was a problem and I can't remember articles like that in the P&j. That article has genuinely enlightened me and given me some idea of why the remnants of this attitude are so deeply entrenched among the dense and easily led. Thanks for posting.
