  1. I'm officially done with Houston. Todays team selection to me just doesn't compute - Grant dropped (If injured he shouldn't have been in the squad), Muirhead at right back, O'Hara not in the squad to rest him for a youth cup game, our squad containing 5 centre backs with no midfielders on the bench and the monstrosity of whatever he attempted to do with a midfield of Kerr, Sibbs, Craigen, Hippo and Aird. We have went backwards this season not replacing key players who have departed in the summer. We have a massive squad of bang average championship players which to no surprise has us playing like an average championship side. None of his signings this season have improved the starting 11. Being honest, even when we were getting results under Houston we were never enjoyable to watch. We used to be extremely hard to beat playing with a lot of energy and discipline last season. We were extremely lucky with the cup run, which has papered cracks, with fortunate draws and hitting Hibs a sucker punch in the semi-final. I'd prefer him to walk sooner rather than later before the majority of our fans turn on him at games.

  2. In today's Herald there was an interview with Mark Warburton in which it was (respectfully) insinuated that Rangers were at a disadvantage in the cup final because they hadn't played for 3 weeks beforehand: "Rangers were handicapped by the fact they didn't have a competitive fixture for three weeks before the Scottish Cup final having finished their league campaign at the start of the month." Pretty sure at the time the consensus was supposed to be Hibs were at a disadvantage having the extra playoff games. But then in the very same article he attributes his failure to his squad having: "ran out of petrol at the end. There wasn’t anything left in the tank, simple as that." That's to say they ran out of petrol at the end against a side that played more games than they did. Figure that one out. Anyway the really stupid part of the article is this: They face an identical issue this weekend. The last meaningful game that Warburton's side played was against Celtic at Ibrox on Hogmanay. That'd be this weekend when they take on Motherwell who last played a meaningful game on, erm, Hogmanay then? To be fair who can criticise a manager who provides such insightful snippets of wisdom as: "Motherwell are tough opponents. I think they dropped a few points league-wise and I am sure they will come here with a focus on the football." "This is the Scottish Cup" "But every team that enters, I am sure, has the ambition of winning a trophy.”

  3. Seems Houston is trying to get himself sacked. A nice wee payoff and a return to the easy life of scouting perhaps? His selection today is absolute lunacy. How hard can it be? Consistently play your best players in their best positions and it gives the team half a chance. Arse around with rotation and formations and it makes things massively difficult. He's 100% to blame for the shambles that this season is becoming. The BOD have had a bit of stick around budgets but how can they be expected to fork out anymore when Houston is incapable of managing the squad he has?

  9. People in town/city centres here in Scotland having anti Trump protests/rallies, what a bunch of losers, he won fair and square. It's absolutely f**k all to do with anyone here it was Americas decision and the main thing, nobody cares. This is the kind of shite social media is bad for, it's created these reactions. A wee gathering with a load of people trying to show how much they care and outraged they are, few photos and uploaded to social media. That's really what it's all about. These people not got anything better to be doing ffs.

  13. 35 minutes for a BP at Welford Road. Another key point here - one of these scrum halves is constantly being touted as a front-runner for the Lions. He's the one who has put two out on the full, and been run over by Josh Strauss and Jonny Gray. On Jonny - he and Tim Swinson are showing some lovely Leone-like skills!

  16. Our German football trip is Hamburg this year and we're heading over the weekend of 10th March. Both big Hamburg clubs are at home so we've got tickets for St Pauli v Union Berlin on the Friday and Hamburg v Gladbach on the Sunday. Nearest game at a decent level on the Saturday is at Hannover so we're taking a day trip down there to see them play 1860 Munich. Even tickets for St Pauli were surprisingly easy to get and we thankfully didn't have to resort to the likes of viagogo. Cannae wait :-)

  18. I would not participate in any demonstrations or protests myself, but if other people wish to express their solidarity and support from Scotland or elsewhere in the UK then I struggle to see why that is to be condemned or sneered at. Some will say that they could be using that time to protest against things happening closer to home, but I'm sure many have and will continue to do so; I don't see a particularly compelling case for it having to be reduced to a choice between the two - and, of course, it certainly isn't just going to be those in the United States feeling the effects of a Trump presidency. If it annoys 'The Chlamydia Kid' and has him spewing about 'virtue signallers' again, then that is merely an added bonus in my book.

  19. What exactly is the difference between reserve team football and Under 20s? I'm pretty sure overage players are allowed to play anyway. Other teams are able to produce players in the current system at similar levels of budget. I'm not especially knowledgeable about youth development but there are a lot of concerning things to me at Queens and probably in general in Scotland. Firstly why are so many of the youth players are simply not physically ready to cope with senior football? I'm not expecting them to be shredded like Derek Lyle, but some upper body strength and conditioning would not go amiss. The point of having a youth team is to prepare them to be able to push for contention in the senior team so if they aren't physically ready then that is a failing on either the club for not being able to offer a gym session during training, emphasising that as a professional footballer, it's your job to be as athletic as you possibly can be, or the players for not taking the responsibility for themselves if are actually provided with conditioning and nutrition plans. Though it's not exactly a secret that you have to be a pretty good athlete as well as a good technical player to go far these days. There can be the suggestion that the failings come down on the coaches, i don't necessarily know if it is or not, but if Jake Pickard is seemingly unable to successfully complete a 10 yard pass then there is a fundamental issue here. Also we could be using the loan market more effectively rather than as a means to soften the landing for releasing a player. Giving Moxon, for example, 5/10 minutes here and there isn't particularly beneficial to him unless it builds to something. IMO the reason the last crop of players developed so well was partly the coaching from Johnston and McIntyre and mainly from playing in a good team at a level that they were able to play at. It somewhat unlikely that we aren't going to be dropping down to playing part time jobbers this season so guys like Moxon/ Hooper would have been better off playing 90 minutes and impressing rather than being cheap bench fodder. If they can grasp the opportunity at a lower level then it can hopefully lead upwards. I'm not saying fling them into the juniors to play against hammer throwers as that standard is worse than the Under 20s but getting players who are at the stage of needing game time at a league1/2 club is the idea. Naysmith in a short space of time has managed to point out some home truths about the club on the playing side, in that they haven't really given it the attention that it deserved or worse have been in denial about the process. He might have the answer and he might not but I'd trust the man who has first hand experience playing at a high level to know what is required to be successful more than the rest of the non playing staff at the club.

  20. I think the Scottish government are damned if they do and damned if they don't. A Westminster government could not possibly see the Scottish Government mitigating austerity in any way that would cause an embarrassing comparison. They would cut the grant, and would be egged on by the voters of England, who already have been led to believe that we get too much. The Scottish taxpayer would end up paying more for the same return as those in RUK. Of course, the relentless right wing and corporate owned media would justify this and most would accept that. It's but one aspect of the constitutional clusterfuck we live in.

  23. Said that on the match thread. This really is a superb squad Duffy has built. Back four (even without Sir Gavin) is solid. Strolled it today and against Raith last week, two other play off contenders. The midfield is the best we've had in a very long time. The energy Lindsay & Murdoch have to chase down every ball and win it back to start an attack is a joy to watch. Got to enjoy watching them this season, don't think they'll be here next season. Forbes' stats speak for themselves, just give him the POTY award now. Whether it's Russell or Nesbitt on the other side we've got a player(s) who will torment opposition full backs all game. Gary Oliver has been a superb bit of business by Duffy. A guy who wasn't really rated by Queen's fans he's been excellent every time I've seen him. Brilliant just playing off the striker driving forward and creating chances. For a smaller guy he can hold the ball up well also. Here's hoping Shankland can build on the goal on his debut. Did someone say "great feeling at Cappielow"?

  34. Why are folk in this country protesting against Trump's presidency? what right has anyone here to tell Americans who they should elect? Why do they not protest publicly against the scores of other presidents/heads of state/rulers world wide who've attitudes far worse than Trump? Virtue signallers one and all. Desperate to demonstrate to all and sundry how virtuous and morally righteous they are.

One glance at this thread and I always seem to end up on Skyscraper City looking at the progress of some Ecuadorian team's ground. 45. Did the walloper not say something along the lines of "At least 3 clubs will go bust within months if Rangers go down"? Eta: Fuckin hell, it was even worse than I remembered - it was "5 clubs within weeks", including St Mirren. Surprisingly it turned out to be a lot of shite and typical of a lot of the hysterical nonsense that was getting spouted at the time. One of my biggest regrets in life is spotting him too late as we drove past him to give him a mouthful of abuse as he walked down Sandeman St after a game. https://www.google.com.au/amp/www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/st-mirren-chief-stewart-gilmour-1166826.amp
