  1. Can I ask - I am going to the match on Wednesday with my girlfriend and her Rovers supporting side of the family. I'd like to hang my Pars scarf up outside Starks Park on the railings to show my respect for Turnbull Hutton. Would any Raith fans have any reservations about this? I don't want to cause any anymosity, just want to show my respect for a great guy who done so much for Scottish football. I hope there is a big crowd there on Wednesday night to give Turnbull the respect he deserves, he will be sadly missed by all in Scottish football. We are all Turnbull Hutton.

  2. The work he did for the Rovers, as is often the case, was very underrated. A great servant to the club, every lower-league side in the country has someone like him without whom the club would be in a far worse place. Outspoken certainly but then I didn't mind that, even if I didn't always agree with his views he at least had the balls to justify decisions and explain his reasons. And then of course there was the Rangers thing which genuinely helped save Scottish football as we know it. I exchanged a few emails with him at the time and I always remember him saying "we'll play in the Juniors before we let the SFA put Rangers in our league". A man of real honour and I'm sure the club will honour him appropriately on Wednesday night against Cowdenbeath.

  6. I love cycling. I love the challenge of being out on the road, fighting up hills or the fear as you slip into the big front cog and hammer down hill at 40+ bouncing of off every crack in the road and knowing you will be a mess if you make one mistake. Winds in your face so strong you have to pedal on the down hills, rain soaking you too the bone and sun burning the top of your calves and the back of your neck. Last year in August I was told I had osteoarthritis in my knees. I had gotten to the point I was finishing big rides in crippling pain. Doctor chucked me some naproxen and told me to rest and then try again. Quit except for commuting and increased my running. Now I am a real heavy lad. Even when very fit my BMI can be over 33 and my weight over 110kg. "Big unit" is a sort of description. Anyway I had been running from late 2013 to try to get into shape for triathlons. The pain decreased but did not stop in my knees so I thought that that was it. I was finished as a distance cyclist. Anwayz, went back to the doctor about the knees to try to wangle a physio session out of the NHS to see if maybe there was something I could do. This time I got the lovely good doctor who listens to me. She says "running at your weight, ditch it and keep cycling, weight loss is your most important objective and oh here is a physio session". 3 weeks after binning the running I have done 210 miles over the past 4 days with minimal pain in the knees. This is me right now.

  8. Easy mistake to make. We all skim through things so no-one should have an issue with it. I expect it to be observed with respect for an honest and candid man whose commitment to his club was impressive. He made a horlicks and amended it. He didn't delete it and pretend it didn't happen.

  9. Has anyone in fairness. seen any semblance of an apology, from this apparent simpleton who was confused? As someone who quoted him , if he had apologised and removed the the original content of the post, I would have given him the benefit of the doubt and removed the evidence of his bawbaggery , but he chocked it up to him making a cock of it and that is a piss poor excuse seeing as his whole mantra is to make a cock of it and use that as a deflection technique.

  10. I think that's a great gesture dafcburty. I'm sure no Rovers fan would have any complaints about you doing this. I laid my Raith scarf outside East End when Norrie died and a few Pars fans said thanks for doing that.

  15. At least he had that Sunday at Easter Road last year before he left us. That must have made his day to be able see his club turn over both halves of the old firm in a cup final.

  16. And I would have done but Bennett is not an apologist like you , least ways he has yet to for this particular indiscretion? Acknowledging a mistake and apologising for it are two different things surely? Like your other mate Tedi, your trying to excuse poor behaviour using a back door, rather than addressing the person and why they behave that way and why they feel the need not to apologise for their indiscretion because they have said it was a mistake .

  17. If Falkirk weren't playing on Wednesday, I might have gone along to this game to show my respects. I'll try to swing by tomorrow and put a scarf up. I think it's important that we as fans mark his passing because I doubt the West Coast media will give the man the credit he deserves.

  18. I spoke to Turnbull Hutton a few times during the Rangers malarkey and he gave me the impression that he appreciated the support he was getting for his stance but he also seemed a bit surprised by it all as he was just doing what was right. I hope his family take a lot of comfort from the very high regard he is held in by the vast majority of Scottish football.

  23. Arseholes who turn up tae the fitba' purely to spend ninety minutes hurling abuse at their least favourite player at the club they "support", usually right from the kick-off before the poor b*****d has even had a touch. Then gleefully railing on the others in the crowd when requested to shut their hole. Respectfully, mind.

  25. A big well done to FF for the interview, it was a really enjoyable listen. Although I get the feeling that Irons wouldn't have taken much persuading to spill his guts on everything. Just out of curiosity, is there anyone who hasn't stabbed him in the back? I enjoyed his bit about Morton the most, very juicy indeed. I've always wondered why Morton have perennially underachieved given the fruits of the Inverclyde sweetie industry, however the interview points towards a self-entitled control freak more intent on halting progress on his own terms than watching the club progress through the achievements of others. The word "narcissist" noted earlier in the thread seems awfully apt. Are Morton fans generally happy with his tenure or do they have little choice but to plod along with him as long as he keeps the club afloat?

  37. It won't work like that. If the holding company fails, and it's legally possible to separate it from its subsidiary (which I doubt), the liquidator/administrator will be obliged to realise all of its assets, including the £16M loan to the football club. Since the football club won't have the cash, they will have to to liquidate as well. If the holding company don't fail but try to sell the club, the £16M debt will be a major obstacle. As a PLC they can't write it off. They'd need someone with off-the-radar wealth to buy the club for £1 and pay off the loan. Now there's a good idea!

  39. April 2016 Vanarama Conference South: The final month of the season, we're effectively 11 points clear with 12 left to play for and we can wrap up the title with a win in our next game against Tonbridge. Might as well just get in to it then! Tonbridge were 4th bottom, so didn't expect them to cause too many problems on our big day. The final results for the month were as follows then. Saw off Tonbridge with ease, then played a bunch of reserves/players who were leaving for the final three games where we still managed to go without defeat. Stewart Mansell was in fine form as well, playing all 4 matches. My assistant even recommended I take him off the loan list as they believe he should be part of the first team. The Concord Rangers match saw a crowd just under 1,700 turn up, over 3 times my average over the season! Anyway, the final league table looked like this: Pleasing to see us promoted after bottling it last season. Top of the table, most goals scored and least goals conceded, can't really complain with that. After the season was done, I had a little look to see how Havent & Waterlooville had gotten on after winning promotion ahead of us last season... Other News: So, Bath win their FIRST ever Conference South trophy, which sees us win promotion to the Vanarama Conference and one division away from our goal of taking Bath City to the Football League for the first time in their history. Quite a fair bit to mention now that the season is done. As soon as the league was wrapped up, the board set some initial budgets for next year which I wasn't expecting. An increase of about £10k on to the wage budget, plus an £80k transfer budget! Obviously once the new season starts those budgets might increase/decrease, but anything close to that would be superb. I'd probably adjust the budget to reduce the transfer money to boost the wages available. At Conference level you don't really need to spend money on players, so more wages to spend on Free Transfers and Loan deals would be decent. Of my 18 players out of contract, I'd ideally sign up no more than half of them, so that could see 9 players leave, freeing up more cash to spend on new players. A lot of my players, as good as they are at this level, would probably struggle in the Conference. I'll go through contracts, transfers, budgets etc during my pre-season update early next week. After the victory over Dartford in the penultimate game of the season, George Bowerman set a league record! He even beat David Pratt's total from last season, by 8 league goals! Player Stats: Last but not least in this update, a quick look at the final stats for the players for this season. My two wingers Sam Gainford and Ross Stearn finishing with 28 goals and 30 assists between them! George Bowerman was top scorer naturally with 39 goals in all competitions. I left him out of the final game of the season, perhaps I should have played him to see if he could make the 40. Stewart Mansell finished the season with 13 starts, where he scored 4 goals and assisted 3 more from his position just behind the striker. Also managed 2 MoM awards too. More about him in the next update though. During the final month I also turned down two approaches from Carlisle United and Crawley. So that's it, the end of season 2 sees us win the Vanarama Conference South, whilst also making it to the 3rd Round of the FA Cup. The least said about the result in that game the better though. To those that do read this, enjoy! Expect the pre-season update at some point on Monday.

  41. I think yesterday proved your point about opposition forwards getting forward. Both Morton's fullbacks scored and in fact our left back (Mark Russell) and left mid (Stefan McCluskey) absolutely tore the right side of Dunfermline's defence a new one. What really struck me though about yesterday is that everything about the Dunfermline infrastructure including attracting 2700 to a game after a crap season crys out Premier League. On the park though is a team that struggles to justify League one status. I have been following Morton for over 50 years and that is the worst Dunfermline side I have ever seen! I feel for their fans.

  42. Yes, Jenkins moved in the January, so a fee must surely have been involved, given that he wasn't out of contract at Stranraer. The fairy tale stuff really did get galling. It was all so lazy and dishonest, allowing for plenty cliched crap about Gretna's association with weddings, enabling a gormless connection to be made with romance. What Gretna did was as romantic as gonorrhoea.
