  1. Fair enough. Do you know what the investment was? Does anyone have any details? Was a contractor charged with bringing it up to an “certain standard”? Is a full pitch being relaid a ”token gesture”? All I see is a repetition that nothing was spent, nothing at all. Which is clearly not true when the whole pitch was relaid at the very least as soon as last season ended. Who would know this, if not the “journalists” who, live on air, declared that not a penny has obviously been spent? There’s a drainage problem, that’s clear and it’s been accepted by the club is needs addressed. It could be under the pitch, under the stand, on Dens Road… it doesn’t matter. There’s literally nothing the club can do mid-season when this became apparent. The club have said they will have it sorted which will presumably require the pitch to be entirely ripped up again.
  2. I’d present this is an inconvenient truth to the idea that Dundee have not invested anything on their pitch to prepare for this coming season… but there’s very little rationality around the entire subject so I doubt it matters. https://dundeefc.co.uk/news/work-underway-on-new-pitch/ Plus I assume Tom English (even when challenged by a rare moment of sanity by Michael Stewart), the Motherwell manager and - with a rough guess that the daily statement from Ibrox is slavering that the rules that have been broken relate to a lack of maintenance - The Rangers, believe this definitely didn’t happen.
  3. This seems quite a common question. I moved to 25s and noticed no real difference in performance. 25s give you a slightly more comfortable ride. +1 for the Gatorskins
  4. Similar to this?... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CREE-XML-XM-L-T6-1800-LM-LED-Cycling-Bike-Bicycle-Head-Light-HeadLamp-HeadLight-/140744146377?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Cycling_Bike_Lights&hash=item20c5013dc9 I have a similar one, VERY bright and great VFM.
  5. Agree with this. Obviously can't speak for cycle shops out your way, but Spokes in Dundee fixed my wheel at very short notice a few weeks back before we set off on our charity ride. His book was full but managed to squeeze it in before closing time which was perfect.
  6. My bike also came with Ultremos. Very fast running tyres (rolling resistance). I got 1000 miles from them before I found a couple of big gouges out of the rear one. The front one is still ok so I've kept a hold of it in reserve. I replaced them with Conti Gatorskins. Great tyres, hard wearing and good puncture resistance. The noticable difference in speed is negligible really. My "winter commute" bike has Specialized Armadillo tyres. Great as well. So far, I can report no punctures with the Armadillos or the Gatorskins in 2500 miles. Had quite a few with the Ultremos though.
  7. Cheers guys, going to take it along to LBS (Spokes) to have a look. You've read my mind broon - have borrowed my colleague's spare wheel (handmade and still in it's box so I don't want to use it unless I really need to). The rear wheel sounds a bit 'crusty' when freewheeling, suggests to me it's full of dirt. If it wasn't so close to the event, I would have had a go at overhauling it but don't fancy doing any work on the bike myself at this stage so LBS it is. Cheers for the messages of support chaps as well, it's going to be the hardest thing i've ever done but looking forward to it. Particularly looking forward to riding some of the roads out on the west coast, if we get even a few hours of good weather then I think we are in for a proper treat! I set out to raise £500 for Cystic Fibrosis Trust - hoping now that I can take that up to £750+ so not bad.
  8. So...looking for some advice. We are about to set off on a wee bit of a charity cycle. Starting on Saturday, three of us are going to cover 500 miles in the saddle from Mull of Galloway to John O'Groats. In 5 days straight. Anyway, I rolled the bike out this morning for a wee photoshoot for the local paper (famous and ahin!). Tried to pedal - nothing. Thought the chain was off, but it wasn't. Eventually it clicked into place and started working. Think the pawls in the freehub just got a bit stuck but just thought I'd ask the guys on here who are in the know if you've seen that before and if so, did it become a recurring issue? Basically...Can I just ignore it if it's working again?! I've had the bike since March and covered just over 2,000 miles on it without a hint of an issue, sods fucking law that two days before we set off I start having mechanical problems!
  9. Workmate has just bought himself a new Secteur, looks the piece. Our office is now 80% Specialized! Good bikes by all means. I'm definitely a creature of habit, but that means it's very difficult to break my habit of sleeping until the very last second that I HAVE to get up. That's meant I've struggled badly to get up early enough for cycling - need to leave the house at 6:30 to make the train! I've nothing of note on this weekend so I'll be fresh on Monday to get started. 30 miles sounds daunting but in contrast to yours there is very little incline on my trip - right along the shore of the Tay basically. Ideally, I'd like to cycle Monday, Tuesday, Friday. I play Fives on a Wednesday night (half the reason I decided I needed to get fit) so having the Wed/Thurs off is ideal Not a bad idea, although I'm not convinced I'd be anywhere near ready for anything like that. I'd quite like to go out sometime in the summer with a couple of mates and do some miles and take in some scenery so possibly that's all the motivation I'd need.
  10. Oooh, a cycling thread! I have the 'Comp' version of this. I love it. Got it through the 'cycle to work' scheme. I have to admit I was fairly clueless to start with when choosing a bike. All my previous efforts at bikes have been heavy, cheap MTBs but that was from when I lived in the town, now I live 15 miles away so I knew I needed something a bit faster and lighter. A few guys at my work cycle in and helped me settle on the comp. I'd imagine that the standard one isn't too much different, same frame setup, just lesser quality parts (that's not to say that the parts aren't any good) and slightly heavier. I was slightly tempted by the Tricross but it was putting me over my already stretched budget! Anyway, I think Nicholson's in Dundee stock the Sirrus so nip in and have a look at it first. It's a 31mile round trip for me to get into work (and a train journey). I had planned to do that 2-3 times a week but it's not happening at the moment. Not cycled in to work for a couple of weeks now but desperate to get fit so will need to get back into it!
  11. GUTTED!!! Watched the semi finals but needed to go through the house to paint the other room. I watched Wade win the first leg then hit pause, flicked the tele off and went through the house. Painting done, I got myself a lovely cool pint of magners and sat down in front of the tele. Switched the TV on. Nothing. I've got a universal remote and it switched the TV on and the Sky box OFF!!! Since i'd only had it on live pause, I'd lost the entire final, the program was just ending when I put the sky box back on. FECK!!! It could only happen when we have the most unbelievable game of darts ever, never mind for a final! Nae luck! EDIT: Don't suppose anyone has a link to the final online?
  12. If this is the case, is it not about time the Massone and the club answer to the shockingly silent SFL regarding all of this? Massone will obviously stall any moves towards enforcing removal, but if the ball has been set rolling by the relative creditors surely that will be the last chance for the SFL to take some kind of action and somehow prevent what is bound to be Scottish football farce number 12,200,000? I don't really want to see Livy go down the pan but for the sake of this division and with all the uncertainty surrounding their very survival, surely the correct thing to do is take action now. What should that action be? Relegation to the 3rd, meaning less money in gates lost from the league as a whole should they go bust?
  13. A minor point, but one worth pointing out, is that Brooks was actually a strong believer in the fans trusts movements. So much so that he donated a chunk of cash to Dee4life. In that case, and judging by your previous comments, you actually love him!
  14. Good shout... .....OR they could always call St Johnstone for the cardboard cut outs?
