Brilliant. I felt sorry for her but the film didn't leave us with any warmth for her either. I thought it was Theron's best performance imo

Looks a lot like Night Moves with Gene Hackman without the 70's paranoia or intelligence. It's a real shame that Anderson hasn't fulfilled the potential shown in "Boogie Nights".

Must check this out. Joffe Jr made a very poor (imo) adaptation of Brighton Rock but maybe this is a sign that he'll make films that are as good as his Dad's.

Maps to the Stars - David Cronenberg's latest film about the weird and sick World that Hollywood life consists of. To reveal the plot outline would be to give too much away but incest, sexual promiscuity, murder and a bit of animal cruelty/brutality give you a clue that this isn't a retread of "The Player". It's more like a horror film in its truest sense and the black humour is perfectly contained therein. Watch out for Jullianne Moore who plays a faded actress and narcissistic sociopath who despite her abhorrent behaviour deserves a very very tiny bit of sympathy. John Cusack plays a ridiculous new age parasite who lives off his child's acting. Brilliant, compelling and shocking. 9/10

Yeah The Cabin in the Woods was one that mixed genres but I found it pretty tedious in the end and ott. The Guest is genuinely entertaining

Again another thriller that won't get the credit it deserves. Out of the Furnace which is a more straightforward drama is the same. Critical snobbery annoys me sometimes

Yeah this was very entertaining. Wahlberg, Reese Witherspoon, Alysa Milano and William Peterson (who was really good) held my interest throughout. Well written and acted and very underrated in my opinion. It was probably one of the best horror/thrillers of that year

White Bird In a Blizzard: Really interesting premise about the disappearance of a bored and enigmatic housewife (Eva Green) leaving her 17 year old daughter (Shaline Woodley) confused as this young girl embarks on a path of sexual experimentation with her directionless boyfriend (Siloh Fernandez) and then older men in the shape of the detective investigating her mother's vanishing (Thomas Jane). Her father (Chris Meloni) seems bewildered and angry but utterly helpless and hopeless at providing guidance to his daughter. The screenplay is dreadful and has that terrible habit of putting misplaced poetry and insight into characters who simply wouldn't talk like that. I also found the film depressing and generally uninvolving with unlikeable characters. 2/10
