  1. 120k@s yesterday, training for the Tour of Ayrshire. Wanted a tough day but not quite as tough as it turned out. Wind behind average speed was bordering on 40kph out to Forres, then an uphill to Glenferness and Dulcie Bridge. Colder than I thought as well, so decided not to stop and kept going. Wind got so bad I was frequently fighting with the bike to stay upright. Got to Culloden battlefield in a major mess. Speed had dropped to 20kph, was all over the place, had the shakes, greeting, violently nauseous - the works. Got home to Inverness, spent 40 minutes between hot bath/ shower then devoured anything with protein in it. I knew what I'd done - not eaten breakfast, hurried out the door and pushed way too hard. Not put a warm layer on. Etc. etc. but kept going. Idiot, but now an old idiot who won't learn. Anyone else buried themselves on the bike recently?
  2. Anyone on here doing the tour of ayrshire at the end of April?
  3. Her's one I just finished. Well nearly finished - I'll probably stare at it long enough to find something I don't like and then change it. Then it's either a "yay" moment or a "bugger" moment.
  4. Like this as well. Andrew Wyeth, Christina's world. Added bonus of being a good song by The Big Dish.
  5. Same as regards the abuse. Here's a couple of mine - nevr thought I'd upload these to P&B!
  6. Jakob Sinding, Winter in Lofoten. Love it, just feels cauld.
  7. 100 miles yesterday from Inverness to Bonar Bridge and back in 5:15. Forgotten how steep the struie road is. 12% for a fair old dig. Weather was fine except up high, now know i'm in reasonable shape for the etape royale in a couple of weeks. Any other P&B'ers doing this?
  8. The etape loch ness is actually ok. The first half is rolling, so there's little chance of being spat out the back too quickly. It's this section you usually get a head wind on. The Glen doe hill isn't too bad. The first half is the steepest, there's a flatter section by the lochan at half way and then the second bit is steepest at the start. All in all it's manageable. The descent off there is a long straight that gives you a lot of speed especially if there's a tail wind (nearly always) then there's a technical wee descent through foyers. After that it's a scoot along the loch side.
  9. Done Aberdeen, St. Johnstone and Dundee United from Inverness. Not all on the same day though. In fact not all in the same season. Done Brora and Forres so far this year. Grand days out, all of them.
  10. just back and heading for my kip. Still can't believe what we've achieved. won it, but Falkirk you were great
  11. Agile scrum. Any time it's suggested, I want to stamp on the person who said it.
  12. One big 600ml bottle energy drink then top up with water at feedstation. 4 x gels. 1 banana. Then as near halfway as possible one scotch egg and some jelly beans. Aldi's were best, but they're not doing them any more. The scotch egg is the most important though. That'll get me through the etape loch ness.
  13. Going to Forres on the bike from Inverness tonight for the Caley Thistle game, always good to mix bike/ football/ beer (in any order you like) BTW, anybody tape the TDF stage on sunday? See if you can spot the guy baring his arse at the peleton in the village with 7.2k's to go. Classic.
  14. Nasty. I got told when I did it that I would "never look good in a bikini again" Still cycling though. Good luck with the recovery.
