It’s time for the European Leagues to pack up their kit bags and head home for some mulled wine and time with the family.

The English Leagues, in contrast, go into overdrive. While managers and players trot out tired old truisms like ‘no one’s ever been relegated or won the league in December’, when it’s as tight as the Premier League is now the results of two games in three days could have a significant impact on a season. And no one will want to go into the break for the FA Cup 3rd round on the back of two defeats.

The e-player will be keeping a close eye on Man Utd over the holiday period to see if they can catch up after their long weekend in Japan. All the matches chosen are below.

PLEASE NOTE: selections are subject to late change in the event of goalless games.

As mentioned, the European Leagues are on their winter break so no action from Serie A, Liga Sagres or Ligue 1.

There is, however, full coverage of the PDC Darts World Championship ‘09 with highlights from EVERY game played. At between two and half and five minutes long these make compelling viewing and provide a refreshing antidote to the reality TV specials and hoary old movies cluttering up the TV schedules.

New Channel
The Cricket Australia Channel has been launched – so have a spin through the carousel to check it out – and it will be featuring the 2nd Test between Australia and South Africa. This begins on 26th December.
