Peter Ebdon is the reason that I utterly hate snooker now. Used to love it as well.

Carter has Crohn's disease and has said a number of times he finds he can get tired very easily which might be a reason why he doesnt hang about with others.

As a person he seems quite decent, unfortunately as the fortnight has progressed his play has got slower and more cautious.

He is definately going the Ebdon way: long periods of safety followed by ridiculous shots that dont go anywhere near the pocket; silly misses when in and breaking down on 13 minutes; the odd break of 80.

Carter hasn't been excessively defensive, but the reason why he's been a little more so than some other players is simple - it works better for him than all out attack. And what's more - a more defensive style is working for Ronnie as well.

I prefer the tactical frames over big breaks all the time anyway, especially the mid frame battles when there's just one or two reds on the table.

Looks like it's all over now though - 12-7 O'Sullivan.

Carter did reasonably well to give us a shout of making it to the mid-session interval tonight. I was almost willing O'Sullivan to bury this match this afternoon to put him (Carter) out of his misery, but happy to have a few frames to watch later.

Carter will still do well to make this feel like a contest.

Well done Ronnie O'Sullivan, and for once, not coming across as an arsehole at the interview.

RE: boring players. Sullen Selby is probably the worst and a very poor sportsman as well.

I've never found Ebdon to be boring. He's a winner and has done what it takes. Selby hasn't (and will never) win the Worlds. He stays at number 1 by cobbling together ranking points without being close to the best player.

Eh?!!!

He's snooker's equivalent to P&B's Ad Lib talking politics.

The only place where your dream becomes impossible is in your own thinking.

From what ive heard Selby is disliked by most on the snooker circuit and lacks proper sportsmanship - plus he is a very dull person to watch and it was good he went out early.
Ebdon is beyond a joke to watch with tactics that drive people away from the watching. What he lacks in talent he makes up for in determination. Dreadful, dreadful, dreadful.

Congratulations to Ronnie as the better player by far won the tournament, i dont recall a match when his opponent was within touching distance coming down to the final frames. Every time someone got close he upped his game and won 3 or 4 in a row.
Doubt Carter would have won regardless of his tactics as Ronnie was far too good but it was a shame for the final that he did go on the defensive as it would have been a better spectacle for the viewers.

O'Sullivan to take 6 months out and then make a decision on his future. Strange how he would come back ranked #2, not sure i understand that, presume it means in the World Championships 2013.

O'Sullivan is known for his flair play and break-building (with good reason, obviously) but his safety game is magnificent too. Higgins is the only guy I can really think who betters him in that department. When he is on his game he is the best all rounder in the sport, there's more to him than just being a maverick, genius or whatever other shitey superlative you want to come up with. It's just a shame that he isn't on his game more often due to him being a total c**t and not really caring. I'm kind of glad he hasn't been though, as I don't think I could stand the public fawning if Ronnie were to overcome Hendry's 7 titles.

He'll automatically be the #1 seed at next year's world champs, as all defending champions are.

So why is he going to be #2 when/if he returns? I know it changes to money earned either when the new season starts or the next but it cant be guaranteed. The bbc writes:

Quote

O'Sullivan's victory, which earned him a cheque for £255,000, secured his position as second seed in all of next season's ranking events and his break from the game will not affect his ranking.
The rankings currently fluctuate after each tournament with cut off points at specific times to determine certain tournaments and qualifying (eg Masters, UK, World). Unless the order is
1. Current tournament champion
2. Current World Champion
3. Ranking

Anyone know the answer.

You've pretty much answered it yourself. As World Champion, any big ranking tournament he's not defending champion of, or unless he's actually ranked Number 1 at the time, he's guaranteed to be the #2 seed.
