Any tips on how to get by the training games?

My guy is so slow its unreal, and the rest of my team mates are utter pish and its almost impossible to gain possession.

PES?

If so a lot of it when you have no stats is reading the game. For example as a striker it's a killer because you have no pace, no body balance and no shot, so the only chance you have is a through ball or a set piece. For other positions it's a different requirement but it's still a case of reading the game. It also depends on the team you are playing with as well, of course.

In terms of strengthening your player, select speed as a priority, as you can do f**k all without the ball.

Had a bit of a WTF moment earlier... to set the scene I'm in season 6, still with Valencia, we were 1 point behind Barca after 21 league games having conceded 9 goals in those 21 games.

I'd got a "yellow +" injury after being halved a couple of times and limping off after 35 minutes in the previous games so was sitting out the next game, away to Huelva, who are kicking about the bottom of the league.

With this in mind, I decided to play the game on double speed rather than skip it, thinking this would take any random element out of it and our better players would win the day, especially our watertight defence.

Huelva 5-2 Valencia.

Season's going pretty well, we're back on top of the league, into the cup semis with Real and Barca out the way, us having eliminated the former (Klinsmann up front for them and everything), and into the last 8 of the European Cup. World cup to come with Ecosse as well.

Only thing is my stats are slowing down in their rate of increase and my shot accuracy/technique is still only 70/71. Only 90+ stat is top speed. I create tons of chances for myself but can't finish my dinner!

I got into this again over the last couple of days after a 5 month break, we blew the league on the last day away to Barca which was a pisser, but I then picked myself up to win the 2014 world cup with Scotland, beating England 1-0 in the final, scoring 11 goals in total in the tournament, winning top scorer and player of the tournament. Yet the only teams that want me are my current club Valencia, Marseille, and Udinese, the latter two both being junk!

Not sure if I can be bothered going through another season now.

What age are you btw? I was forceably retired at 36, much to my fucking surprise I should say as I was scoring regularly up front for Barca, and despite my stats dropping I could easily have done another couple of seasons even if it was for a lesser club (in a lesser league, perhaps).

While there is no doubting it's far more rewarding than BaP as you need to earn (and retain) your starting place as well as the moves you are offered, there is a lot of time invested in a career. It's a pain in the arse at the start as you are so limited in skill, so the thought of starting a new career has put me off.

One main problem is that the AI of the managers and the diversity of them is pretty limited. When you control the game in "normal" mode it's all fine and well because you choose the formation, the tactics, the substitutions etc, but when that control is taken away from you and placed in the hands of the computer there isn't enough differences between the teams and the way they play to make you feel that you are genuinely in a league with multiple different managerial personalities. What it really needs is for the managers to be as diverse as the players, with weaknesses and strengths. These managers also need to move about clubs, just like in real life, with a new manager coming to the club meaning a new formation or type of play.

In fact in the animation where when you've scored and you are subbed, where you run of the field and acknowledge the crowd with the manager patting you on the back, I had the same manager for 3 different clubs in succession. That ruins the level of realism by some bit.

It's still a really good game, imo, and it's the first incarnation of BaL so perhaps some of these things will change. The limitation of storage space has been removed from the consoles which was originally the problem with games like Football Manager and why they were never converted to things like the XBox or Playstation. So perhaps Konami will realise that to make the game more realistic they need to shift it away from the arcade feel and more towards FM in a sense.

Of course, I'm not holding my breath for that to happen.. ;)

In the game I was 22, now started season 7 and just turned 23.

I agree about the non-controllable bits needing improved, the transfers for example. The average age of my team-mates at Valencia must be about 32 (Morientes and Albelda are both kicking about at 38 and Baraja has only just retired, Hildebrand and Marchena are 35 and there's a few others in their early 30s like Villa)- we don't seem to have any good regens whereas other teams have new RVNs and Beckhams. I also agree it has massive potential if they do improve it.

I do find it weird that I play much better for Scotland than I do for Valencia despite playing in the same position (AM) with worse team mates against largely better teams.

Maybe my rep will have gone up over the close season and at the next window someone good will come in for me...

You're just a youngster.. ;)

I found I couldn't really make a serious impact on games on a consistent basis until I was past my mid 20's. That could be down to my play of course .. ;) .. or that I didn't make the most of the improvement stats and I was playing it on the hardest level.

Yes, utterly frustrating, especially when you sign a defender in their 30's who has poor stats. Not only will they no longer improve, you have to wait seasons before they retire. I do wonder if the teams are somehow regulated so the best players don't join the team you are with.

Even then it's daft as I've been with Man U and Barca and both sides were picking up players who are not just past it but worth next to nothing (300-500). You only need to look at the players these sides acquire in real life to see that's not realistic.

So, anybody having a bash at the new Pro Evo?

I'm at Heracles, playing on either wing, on Top Player.

I've managed to get myself a couple of appearances from the bench after a long run of mediocre Reserve team performances. I haven't managed above a 6.5 at any level.

At the moment, running with the ball is just completely pointless for me. Before I can get going anywhere, there's defenders coming in twice as fast as I can move, and they seem to be able to get away with more or less anything. It's usually a sliding tackle from behind, that goes through my leg and then takes the ball.

Anyone else having more success?

Started mine last week and signed for Burnley (Top player),

Had some good performances for the reserves and after a goal and man of the match found myself on the bench,

First game off the bench and scored the winner against Fulham.

Good start i'm an attacking mid which is where i played in last years one and eventually got World Player of the Year so my experience is helping.

Best advice i can give is boost stamina and speed straight away.

I am a striker for FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in Ligue 1. Want to move at the end of the season to a bigger club. First-team regular halfway through the season.

FIFA09, I was simply sensational as a left winger for Arsenal/Scotland/Inter. B)

Scored 25 goals in my first season as an out-and-out striker, 30-odd in the next, 45 in the third, and 60-something in my last season at Inter - most from the left wing - and all on World Class difficulty. B)

Was an Arsenal Club legend by the second season, national captian by the second.

Scored 7 and provided an assist in a sensational 8-0 thumping of Milan (5 minute halves, WC difficulty).

I'm basically the mutt's nuts at left winger.

I'm becoming the new Kenny Miller for Scotland, can't hit a cows arse with a banjo but got 2 agaisnt Italy to put us through to the last 16 of the world cup before Ivory Coast put us out, and just now ive scored the winner agaisnt Holland away to in the Amsterdam Arena. Baffling team choices though ive been playing up front with players such as McCulloch (who retired about 18 months ago?) and Stewart from Hearts <_<
