How do I access the service ?
Inside the P&B section of the forum you will find our P&B TV player embedded at the top of the page. It's there right now, look up !
The player defaults to the English Premier League highlights but you can use the channel drop down at the top of the player to select any channel of your choosing. When your channel loads you will see an additional selection of links at the bottom of the player that allow you to watch any individual clip you wish to load - or you can sit back and watch them all in order from start to finish. The choice is yours.
What do I need on my computer to be able to see P&B TV ?
You'll need broadband for a start and it will need to be of reasonable speed to get the most out of the service. You'll also need the latest version of the free Adobe Flash software which you can get for free from http://www.adobe.com..._US-H-GET-FLASH . If you can see the player loaded at the very top of this page then you are already good to go.
Is P&B TV free ?
Yes. It's 100% free. The service displays very short video adverts before each clip, and sometimes after a clip too. These 10 second adverts keep the service free.
Is P&B TV legal ?
Yes. P&B Sports Ltd have a contract in place to deliver this content for the duration of season 2008-2009. Everything on the player is licensed through the appropriate organisations and is completely 100% legal and above board.
Who updates P&B TV ?
The player is a commercial product which is maintained by a 3rd party who manage and maintain all the content and advertising on the player on our behalf. They will update the player with new content at around 2pm every day. Some channels will obviously update more frequently than others depending on what is happening at any particular time of the week.
Is this service available to all P&B members ?
Yes. P&B TV is available to guests, gold members and platinum members.
Is this service exclusive to P&B ?
No, the player will be appearing on some other websites such as The Sun, The Times, FHM and other high traffic websites.
Why is there no Scottish Football on P&B TV ?
The broadband rights for each football league are handled slightly differently. We hope that the SPL at least will appear on this platform at some point in the near future. Discussions are already started there and we hope that if this brand new platform proves to be a success (for consumers and advertisers alike) then we will see some Scottish football making it's way on to this service which would obviously be great news for us.
No Scottish Football ? What's the point of this then on a Scottish Football website ?
Our EPL section is very popular and we kind of guessed that our members would be interested in viewing football action from around the world and that the service would prove to be popular. Some of the best players in the world play in the EPL and of course we will have highlights from the Champions League, UEFA cup and International football so there will be some Scottish involvement.
How did you manage to get a license for this ?
P&B is growing in popularity all the time. We have over 9,000 active members on the forum (users who have posted in the last year), and every day we get around 10,000 unique people visiting the site. Those visitors generate around 4 million page hits a month so the site is becoming more attractive to sponsors and advertisers. This service is only offered to high traffic sites and networks so in actual fact the reason we have it is down to YOU - as you are the people creating the content on the site that makes people come back and visit and read the site regularly.
This is rubbish and I don't want to watch it !
Everyone has a choice ! We've created this particular section of the forum for those that want to enjoy P&B TV, and if you aren't interested then just collapse this forum from the main forum list and you'll never even see it.
Does P&B TV only appear in the forums ?
No, it also appears on our super duper homepage !
Can I switch the sound off ?
Yes, you can use the controls on the player to mute the sound if you want to sneakily watch P&B TV from the office
What else is this section of the forum for ?
We hope that users will post topics in this section of the forum, discussing some of the content that appears in the player. Every single topic opened in the P&B TV section of the forum will have the player located at the top of the page within easy reach.
Can the clips be downloaded ?
No. This is a streaming service only.
How long are the clips ?
This varies between 1 minute and 5 minutes. Some clips are just of goals, whilst there are interviews, press conferences or news round ups which will run for longer.
It doesn't work for me, how can I get help ?
If the player is not loading for you, and you have made sure you are running the latest version of Adobe Flash (see above) then you open a thread in the complaints forum and we'll take a look. If you are struggling then it's possible others with the same configuration as you are having similar problems. We've tested this extensively with IE7 and Firefox 3 and not found any issues but we appreciate some people are still running older versions, and we've not tested with Opera or any other browsers so do let us know if there are any issues and we will do our best to resolve.
Do you think there will be Scottish football on here in the future ?
That is certainly a possibility. If this method of delivery proves to be successful then we hope the number of channels will grow and that this could include Scottish football highlights which of course we would then run as our default. We'll just need to wait and see how it goes.
How long do you anticipate running this service ?
Our contract is initially for the duration of season 2008-2009 and this will be reviewed at the end of the campaign.
Will P&B TV always be free ?
Yes, the advertising on the service will fund it's existence for all users. There are no plans to charge additionally for this service.
Can Platinum members have the adverts removed ?
No, this is a premium service and must be supported by advertising at all times.
Can I choose a different default channel ?
No, the default will always be decided by P&B. You can of course change to a different channel but this will only be remembered for the page you are currently loading.
Whats with the cricket, basketball and tennis channels ?
We took all of these rights as a package, and we know that there is a wide variety of sporting interests within the P&B membership so we thought it would be good to carry the feeds for these additional channels even though these are not "core" to the football nature of the P&B site.
