Spartans V Coldstream Not looking great

As at 10.30 the pitch as playable, just, but it is still chucking it down and if it carries on for the next 4 hours I doubt the game would go ahead.

Water is collecting in big pools at the bottom of the pitch. We've got the famous Spartans sponge back on loan from Rangers (they don't need him for Europe any more) but it is not looking great.

Not sure if it's the ref's decision or the club's but latest from the ground a few minutes ago was that it is looking grim.

What a pisser!

just back fropm the ground myself where I spent about 2 hours this morning trying to get the pitch sorted. It wasn't really bad but was getting worse and worse as the morning went on.

I am not confident it will go ahead - if it does it means im going to get soaked twice today!!

I hear the rain is off now so I am packing my flippers and snorkel and going to toddle along anyway.

Given the fact that it is now nearly 1pm and the match has not been called off, plus the fact that the rain has stopped, I'm becoming quite hopeful.

Certainly not hearing anything to the contrary from official sources.

That's right - ref called it off. Must still be some standing water down at one of the bottom corners but have spoken to our guys and Stobswood who has driven miles with his mates and everyone seemed to think the pitch was OK and drying out with still another hour to go.

Bummer. Thanks to all the guys who put such a lot of work in this morning and to Stobswood (who now can't even spend the rest of the afternoon in the pub).

Off to get wet inside myself.

Would just like to say thanks to all the guys at Spartans for trying to get the game on.....in my view it was playable and the referee was a laughing stock....also thanks to WJR for the updates by phone ......its simply not good enough by the officials to have a walk on the pitch and say ahh i dont fancy it its off.....guys have tried since 8.30 in the morning to try and get the game on only for a complete joker to call it off with still an hour to go.......

I dont think they realise people give up valuble time and money to get to games ie me and a mate travelling form 10.15 yesterday morning........

One more thankyou must go to the ladies in the tearoom who supplied a top notch cuppa before i left......

no wonder spartans didn't get in the league. still raking grass of what can only be described as a half cut field an hour before the kick off. very unprofessional.

Having been one of those guys out there for 2 hours in the pissing rain, trying to ensure there was a game of football on I can quite happily tell you to go f*ck yourself :D

Well said Simplistic. The Sith is probably one of those arseholes who think the Council will "own" the new ground and still be responsible for cutting the grass and clearing the pitch.

Well done for your efforts yesterday.

was just gutted it got called off, we had it looking decent enough, considering the amount of rain edinburgh was hit with and the slope at city there was no real surprise it would suffer.
