As an ex-player I was always under the impression that there is no such thing as a 'friendly' game. Seriously though, apart from hopefully getting the players match sharp, have they any worth in being pointers for the season ahead?

Is this because a low level Junior club gubbed you on Saturday?

No, if you re-read my posting it was a general question about how other followers of the game saw the worth of pre-season friendlies. Apart from trying to get players match sharp do they do anything to give the supporters an indication of the teams prospects?
