Wondering what your thoughts are on what you think your teams starting XI is shaping up to be for the opening game?

What ive seen so far from Spartans i'd go for:

GK - Craig Graham
DR - Dougie Hewitt
DL - Dean Hoskins
DC - Johnny Seeley
DC - Omar Kader
ML - Mike Lawson
MR - Sam Lynch
MC - Doug Cowie
MC - Eric Ewing
FC - Bob Dryburgh
FC - Stewart Fowlie

What do you think? Would walk the league!

No Derick Rodier up front? Controversial.

Not wishing to talk up the opposition but... is this Struan's breakthrough year? He looked like he could develop into a tough opponent when he first came on the scene for Spartans and I wish the lad well (except against City when he should score 3 o.g.s and be sent off after 10 mins!)
Starting line up for END of the season games when we can't be bothered:
1. Stovies 2. T Rialist 3. A.N. Other 4. Shaun 5. A Foreign Student plucked off the street 6. An U-19 7. Another U-19 (already tapped by another team) 8. Gary J 9. C Gordon 10. Keith Anderson (lured out of retirement by the promise of several pints!) 11. An U-19 who turns out to be a loonie SUBS: The Team Bus Driver "I once had a trial for Chirnside in 1962 you know".
Edinburgh City Football Club-
trophy grabbing upstarts since 2011!

I'm not posting any team selections but a quest for thoughts. Checking back in history far more goals were scored in the fifties than the present day. Does this mean that defenders have improved or strikers lost their skills? I don't think it has anything to do with that at all.

My thoughts are along the lines of formations. In the fifties as well as scoring more teams also let in more. This led to many free scoring games as opposed to the tighter matches of today. Perhaps, for the sake of entertainment we should return to giving more consideration to the fact that as long as your team can score at least one more goal than the opposition then it doesn't matter if four are let past. Admittedly, over the years, I have seen some thrilling one all draws and some boring seven nils but overall a return to a front line up of five might be good for the game.

Perhaps the older posters may know what I'm on about. Any thoughts?

My sources tell me hes has done well pre season. had him watched a couple of times and seems to have improved.

Will be interesting to see how Leith do this year. If they do not get off to a good start I fear they may become mid table obscurity! It will be interesting to get to a few of their games this season.

The number of P&B posters with "sources" is incredible  Is the Cold War still being carried out, but now across the battlefields of Fernieside and Yarrow Park?

Everyone going to a match on Saturday please be on the lookout for guys wearing high-collar macs and holding a violin cases. These will be the sources that report back to many an EoS P&B posters, who are able to tell us "interesting" "information" while lucky and boots straddle the lap?

(not a dig at you, Respected EoS Manager, it's just the "sources" phrase coming up again that got me going ;) )

if any team gets off to a bad start, the season could be over for them as a competition very quickly....

the 1st division wil be more exciting than the prem div as it wont be a 2 horse race

Anyone can do well in pre season then have a horror season! That's what he's going to do! Really just dont see any talent in the boy whatsoever!! Could go into our 2nds, 3rds or 19s and find much better players! Please feel free to watch any of them anytime you like!!

Beat your seconds 4 times out of 4 last season, carty and radzynski have quickly formed into a very good partnership which would trouble your firsts. Only rate Nicky Reid as a stand by. Our 19's are far better than yours (Scottish cup in the bag from last year)

Yeah Leith did cos they were a good team! I'll admit that! To be fair they we deserved to beat them at least 3 of those times but obviously didnt take chances and lost! But Cartwright never played therefore I stand by my comments! Stevie is a good player but you do have to wonder why he hasnt progressed to a better club? You'll still be in the 1st division next year anyway so unless you draw our 1sts in a cup you'll never know if they can "trouble" them for a couple of season at least Little Sunshine Boy!!

You deserved to beat us 3 times? Which threee would that be exactly? You were 2 up against us in the cup and bottled it. They were the only two chances you had in that game.
You took the lead against us at Broxburn, and bottled it. I think you maybe created 3 chances in that game, none in the 2nd half while it was 2 each and I gifted the 2nd goal
We had half a squad at City park(you obviously like the tight parks) and we still won that one.
And the last league match was the best....Can't beat a last minute winner against Spartans.

As for Stevie, I seem to recall him being Central Scottish League player of the year. The guy loves Leith, that's why he's there.

Good luck though in the 1st division of the Central. Come back here in May and we can compare stories of the season then. By the way, there's a forum on the scottish amateur site. You might want to join it.

what do you base your opinion on carty on?
when do you see him play?
with you being with spartans how and when do you get the chance to form your rather poor opinion of a decent player who was edin ath most consistent performer last season

Three out of four haha :D watching games through the rose tinted glases again B) will give you the last game as we rested half our team for the Scottish Semi. See you have signed david (2nds) who played in goals for us that night. Will keep you updated on carty's progress. Yeh stevie has had offers from Premier teams, but is a Leither and wants to be part of the new revolution. These two would trouble any defence not just yours.

Btw its "Big Sunshine Boy" to you ;)

Well Iain personally I and many other Spartans that were playing or watching believed we shoulda beat you in the semi! Gifted you a pen in the last couple of mins and you never "outplayed" us in any of the games! End of the day though we got beat and relegated because of a horrible season! Fair play to you guys and well done on what you did and good luck this season! Didnt have a bad word to say about Leith or any of your boys!!

Yeah we have signed David, from what ive seen he's a good goalie. Just a shame Leith had the you in goals eh? Otherwise he woulda played more!

End of the day ive seen "carty" a few times and just dont think he's a good player! That's all there is 2 say and its personal opinion! Nothing you or anyone can do to change my mind! Except maybe him by having a good season and showing he's a good player! If he does then i'll personally eat his socks!!

Sorry Big Sunshine Boy ;)

I didn't say we outplayed you, just that I don't believe you deserved to win 3 of the 4 games.
We probably had the two best keepers in the league last year, and one only played 1 game! David will do well for you.

Enjoy your season, it'll be tough with Drum Amateurs and St Pats.

Hopefully we can play you in a friendly so Cartwright can score ;)

Ok then i'll take that back and maybe say 2 times out of 4! Pretty evenly matched most of the time but we just didnt have enough to keep ourselves ahead! Some would of said 'Bottle merchants' for last season! I really hope David does do well for us and we get more clean sheets for us than last season!!

The 2 best goalies in the league yeah? haha fair enough i'll not doubt that!

But i'd love another chance at you boys....bring it on!!

But all the best this season anyway and unlucky on saturday, not the best start but who cares?
Show me a good loser and i'll show you a loser!
