Having popped down to Broadwood to see old pals Annan made their debut in a Scottish League Competition and having been charged 15 FLAMING QUID :o for the privilige I'm just glad that City never made it or I would have been switching alliegance to a cheaper alternative.
I'm just wondering in these times of credit crunches and threatened recessions whether the EOSL could attract fans by marketing itself as a cheaper alternative. There must be fans priced out of watching Hibs and Hearts at the moment so perhaps there is a market to be tapped out there given the right publicity. After all Lidl and Aldi seem to survive alongside Sainsbury's and Waitrose.

No real surprise Sir Al if youve been watching at Meadowbank for a few years!

Indeed. Is that worm for your dirty pigeons? B)

All football is leaving me a bit cold at the moment - didn't even enjoy the Euros that much and don't even feel like annoying WJR! Getting much more enjoyment from Judo just now - maybe i'll come back some day? Maybe not.

well WJR... I could be attracted down to the quality new Park at West Pilton by the Spartans Ladies Team, whom I saw in their previous guise as Whitehill/Edinburgh Ladies but as for that other mob..!
I just thought there was a chance the EOSL could attract fans priced out of watching Hearts and Hibs etc.

As for watching the Ladies team Tam I totally agree with you but you have to bear in mind that you will be fighting for viewing space with Bob Dryburgh and the stand is only big enough to fit 500 normal sized people in ...

Good point about Hearts and Hibs though. One or two Hearts fans have made their way to Spartans. Until this summer I thought we would be unlikely to attract Hibs fans but a few may be revolting on the back of pre season results - at Murrayfield the 8 yr old nephew (up from London) of a friend nearly fell off his his seat laughing when Barca scored #6 and his brother (10) asked if I had lost count yet.

All Hibs home fixtures, bar a couple, clash with Spartans home fixtures so we are not likely to pick up many Hibees looking for an excuse from the shopping run but with the new fixture list there is no reason why all clubs like City, Preston, us and Lothian can't market our fixtures more noticeably. As you say, it's a heck of a lot cheaper and I would sooner watch Keith McLeod or Nicky Walker running at defences or a Chris Flockhart flicking that impossible to get to shot past the post (OK - telly save!) than some clown at Hibs charging down the wing but who is clearly a one trick pony.

Fair point WJR. City used to get the odd part time Hibee in the early days coming along to Meadowbank but then our home fixtures clashed with Hibs and crowds suffered as a result. I rather like a healthy crowd at football- the atmosphere at some of the games I saw last year verged on the funereal and if it means being outsung by a group of Spartans chaps in mexican hats and 'taches then fair enough!
