I reckon this will be as close as a South League season as there has ever been. Threave will be desperate to retain the title, Annan Athletic will be stronger as will Stranraer and I also think Crichton will put up a good defence of their title.

My top six:

Champions: Threave
2nd: Crichton
3rd: Annan Athletic
4rth: Stranraer
5th: Dalbeattie Star
6th: St Cuthbert's

1.crichton (because of size of squad)
2.threave (because of lack of signings)
3.stranraer (stronger,but not strong enough)
4.wigtown (discipline could be a problem)
5.abbey vale (stronger than last year, home games will be key)
6.annan (should have stronger squad than rest of lower part of league)
7.saints (again not their most active pre season in the transfer market, and again discipline)
8.heston (lot to prove after poor season last year, stronger than bottom six)
9.nithsdale (big changes, lost whole team, new squad not great, how will they travel?)
10.d-batey (wont reach dizzy heights of last term, probably bit weaker)
11.newton (hard to beat at home but wont be enough)
12.creetown (wont give up but lost too any players)
13.mids (will miss wee cammy, need more players like hissy and ally, same as last term)
14.fleet (whipping boys i fear,much weaker,last terms high a distant memory)
15.the weather (lets hope the rotten rain stays away)

Aye, I've heard that Inter Milan are looking at him if they don't manage to get Drogba but if Drogba does go to the San Siro he may be a target for Chelsea. Throw Man Yoo and Real Madrid into the mix once the Ronaldo situation is cleared up, and that's bound to be hampering Dumfries Heston's pre season preparations.

PS, I'm not making any pre-season predictions until I've seen the quality of the teams involved although, if I'm to be honest, it'll be the ususal suspects in the mix at the end of the season.

I think Stranraer will up there at the end of the season with threave, I think Critchon will be close but they will find it alot harder as champs

my top 3

1st. Stranraer
2nd. Threave
3rd.Critchon

Stranraer look good this year and will get help from first team players when out of the first team so i think they will be the strongest of the 3.

Threave have not made alot of signings but the one's they have are good but the lose of james batty and kerrso is a bigger loss to them.

Critchon will just be like last season they have a big squad to call on and are a side that never gives up as they showed last season but the lose of willie beattie's goals will be a big lose.

but that just my thoughts i was wrong last year and will prob wrong again :P

cant see crichton or threave in the top 3!! stranraer to have it wrapped up by march. saints to be fighting it out with fleetstar and heston at the bottom as the have made poor signings. abbey vale to be much improved dbt mid table wigtown much improved. and the rest can battle it out in mid table ;)

I'd rather have Davie Kennedy and Roman Soltys up front than Willie Beattie! How long will he last at threave before he jumps ship to another team?

He's just a huffy little boy! ;)

i see most folk are tipping stranraer but i doubt they'll be in the league by march seems to be serious money problems down there, they've already scrapped their under 17 or 19's (cant remember) and i think the stiffs will be next!

I reckon it will be tight between Stranraer, Threave and Crichton at the top. If I had to pick one team to win it then it would probably be Crichton again. All 3 will be strong though and capable of lifting the title. Hard to judge the rest of the teams at this stage but I think many of the others will take points off each other and nobody will be the guaranteed whipping boys for everyone else. With Annan first team gaining entrance into the SFL I would expect their south team to finish higher than last year. Having bought some good players Wigtown will be a lot higher up the table and could be contenders for a top six finish. Not sure if they will quite reach the heights predicted by some on this thread. Would certainly be surprised if they managed to climb into the top 3.

I see some are tipping recent strugglers Abbey Vale and Heston as potential improvers - won't be that easy to climb the places suggested by some though. Without knowing the quality of their new signings it is hard to comment on whether these predictions are accurate or not and only time will tell. Am certainly looking forward to seeing if this Cocky is able to live up to the expectations he has certainly set himself on here. As for Newton - well we ain't exactly set the heather on fire pre-season but hopefully we can put up a respectable showing once again when it all kicks off for real.

i think you are 1 of the poor signings. Gary White give him 2 months and he'll quit.
Jim Kirk must of got jazza drunk to sign him. Callum Henderson couldn't get a game for Dlbt South last year. Maxi see Gary White. Neil Murray jazza's bitch :D

Heston for the league

Would agree with most of that. There is little quality in those signings.
Obviously Hestons title chances will hinge on the battle to keep their star striker.

threave could sign anyone of these players but manager must be happy with the squad he has why spend money on players if they are not as good.

So far Wigtown have captured

Stevie Ross ( Striker from Stranraer Reserves)
Chris Doyle (Striker from Stranraer Athletic)
George Wilson (Midfield from Stranraer Athletic)
Stuart Cluckie (Midfield from Dalbeattie East)
Derek Cluckie (Sweeper from Creetown)
Graema Blain (Midfield from Stran Athletic)
Ross McCrindle (Striker from amatuers)
Wullie Bird (Striker from SA)
Martin McClymont (Striker from Creetown_
Archie Fletcher (Defender from Newton Stewart)
Goop (GK from SA)

From what I hear they are stil in talks with a few players.

Willie Beatie,s goals won the league for the Crichton last season, yes he was part of a team but goals win matches and if you look at his goal record after he arrived then you have got to agree he played a big part.

A local guy who has returned to Wigtown,(who is apparently worth a few bob), is backing the team .He has bought the local hotel and a bit of property in the town.
