Not quite sure yet but it looks like the one underneath The Shannon. Thing is there's a number of pubs in the area but that one's perfect for the station (says Lazy O'Booze). :D

Never been to that one. O'Gradys is just along from there, they sponsor the local GAA team MacCurtains so it's usually decent.

I managed to get a few stouts down me no worries! Just about made listening to the Aussie pundits bareable, they didnt half spout some bias pish. Fair enough they're AFL men but they were right up there with Motson and Tyledsley with Engerland. As for the game, another cracker with both teams going for it, the kicking skills of the Irish lads told in the end. Difficult for the refs when its the International rules but the first of the 2 Aussie goals in the final quarter shouldnt have stood for me, at least 2 steps to many. Well played the amateurs! :D

Edited to say...thought the lad Donaghy was immense.

It's brilliant to go to Oz and beat them in their own backyard. There's a team not too far away that would love to do that in other sports (football, cricket, rugby, ad nauseum). Have to accept the commentators unfortunately. At least down there they normally have got something to be boastful about to be fair. Until they run into the Irish that is. Believe me, there was a few pints sunk in Seven Kings and Ilford yesterday. Had to go back to my hotel late afternoon for a kip before the Friday night session. Of course, it's Murphys for me not that stuff from Dublin :D

Slan !

Enjoyable enough game but again I find it a very poor comparison to a proper game of Gaelic Football. All seemed a bit flat and also made a bit farcical by the Aussie's failure to find anybody who has any idea of how to be a goalkeeper  . They would be better getting a soccer goalie in to be honest.

Good for Ireland though. Canty, Donaghy and Cavanagh were all excellent and Enda McGinley as per usual did an awful lot of important work. Stevie McDonnell had a shocker.

he was fairly anonymous alright, luckily coulter picked up the slack.there are some rules from the game i'd like gaelic football to adopt though, like the mark and some form of the tackle

Why can't Setanta allow private subscribers in Britain to see GAA ? I e-mailed them and they said they can't do it. They can do it for pubs though !

I didnt notice this until now caoimhin, sorry. I did indeed see that match and it was excellent fare for the first round of the league. Unfortunately for Tyrone Stephen O' Neill hasnt played since due to injury :( .

The new rules have been an interesting experiment but the main issue seems to be the lack of consistency from officials in applying them. I wouldnt like to see these rules being adopted for the championship.

Certainly looks like an interesting summer ahead with Kerry seemingly having regrouped and Galway and Derry also looking quite impressive. If Tyrone can get the likes of O'Neill, Dooher and McGuigan fit however they will also be dangerous opponents again.

padayr try justintv if youre stuck ;)

not a bother waspie

its going to be interesting to see whats kept and whats scrapped.i agree with the rule concerning players that make cynical tackles getting sent off and replaced.its just that uniformity on what constitutes an offence hasn't really been seen from the refs and could ruin the championship.

i won't be looking past kerry this year, too big a panel.kennelly may not even get a game this summer.tyrone on the other hand could very easily be screwed by injuries as you alluded too.

kilkenny are running up record scores without 5 or 6 regulars already so i think it will amount to success for any team to keep them within ten points .these new rules should never have been applied to hurling either,it was a football problem

Must admit I never really keep in touch with the Hurling during the National League and only really keep an eye on it for the closing stages of the championship. Would be good if there was more opposition to Kilkenny, speaking from somebody who has always been a football follower the one period where I got quite into hurling was the mid to late 90's where there were a few sides competing for Liam and some classic matches.

Quite relieved the new rules were voted down. Agree that Kerry look pretty strong but still dont think they are unbeatable!

I watched a Mayo v Dublin Allianz NFL game from Ballina on Setanta the other week - has it changed since?

Great to find this thread, played Gaelic Football when I was at college in London, both for the uni and for Sean Treacys GAA Club.... got battered in my first couple of games around London but you soon cotton on!!

God, is it really 16 years ago? Aah, hazy memories of the games and the social (hic!) scene!

Any thoughts on the season with Football Championship now down to the quarter finals?

Kerry are there as expected but not by the route expected, having been hammered by Cork then staggering past Longford, Sligo and Antrim. Id be wary with Kerry though that with these teams having failed to finish them off when they were on the ropes that they can regroup and hit form again over the next few weeks. This match with Dublin will ever make them or break them for 2009. It might be the making of the Dubs too as they seem to be bouncing back after last years disaster and who knows a win over Kerry in a big game might be what they need to kick on and really challenge.

Of the rest Tyrone havent been tested this summer at all which I find a bit worrying, makes them a bit vulnerable when coming against more battle hardened sides. Questions over just how fit the likes of Dooher and O'Neill are too. Kildare seem to be making real progress under McGeeney and it should be an interesting game this weekend.

Cork were talked up after beating Kerry but Kerry's subsequent performances, and the manner of Cork's win over Limerick in the Munster Final, must raise questions of how good Cork really are.

Mayo looked decent in Connacht but can they deliver in Croke Park? It would certainly help them if Kerry go ahead as poor old Mayo seem to freeze whenever theyre up against the Kingdom. I havent seen Meath or Limerick this summer so cant comment too much on either of them.

Donegal are an enigma after a poor league and poor start to the championship then suddenly finding form to remove Derry and Galway from contention in the past fortnight. They'll be dangerous but dont see them being real contenders for Sam.

Havent seen any Hurling at all Im afraid.

Have kinda lost touch since Setanta went belly-up. Tyrone must be heavy favourites I would`ve thought, but never count out Kerry.

Kerry must be regretting bringing O Connor back, although they glided through the league their championship performances have been shockingly bad.can't see them beating Dublin but then i couldn't really see Tyrone beating Dublin this time last year either.in terms of favorites I'd rate them ,1-Tyrone , 2-Dublin ,3-Kerry

as far as limerick are concerned ,we've done okay .losing narrowly to cork in the munster final was a sickener.first title in 113 years blown :(

beating Meath and getting to an All Ireland quarter final would still be a great season for us though

delighted to have made it to a semi in the hurling ,can't see us beating Tipp though and i certainly can't see anyone beating Kilkenny .just glad not to have lost to dublin on sunday ,that would have been harder to take than losing to laois!!!

Check out justin.tv, there will be a few channels each Sunday showing live games. The quality isnt always great but its better than nothing.

Another sore one for Limerick at the weekend being squeezed out by a single point again, unlucky caoimhin. Hopefully the hurlers can make up for it.

Cork absolutely destroyed Donegal today, 1-27 to 2-10 :o . Cork were very very good but maybe the number of games Donegal have played in recent weeks worked against them somewhat. Cork will take some stopping on that performance.

I had a big fear that Tyrone were going to lose today and 4 points down at half time they were in trouble. Big performance in the second half got the job done and perhaps being in a close game will take Tyrone on a bit before the semi. They will need to do better if they are to beat Cork.

Big one tomorrow and even though Dublin are again being hyped big time Ive a suspicion that Kerry will wake up now theyre back in Croke Park and will win it.

I'm sickened Waspie!the incident that led to Bray being sent off held up play for over 3 minutes yet the ref see's fit to only play 2 mins and calling Lucey back for steps was a joke of a decision .oh well,Tipp to lose to in a couple of weeks!

can't explain away Donegal's defeat with tiredness either I'd say, that should only have been a factor in the second half.what Donegal were thinking moving men back and playing defensively is beyond me.Cork's backs scored 5 points in the first half from play, where were their markers?that Murphy kid up front for Donegal was class though,he'll be one to watch.

Tyrone and Kildare was the best game of the year i thought.it will have given the dubs plenty to feel good about as their win of the lilywhites in Leinster looks a lot more substantial now. I'm the same as yourself about Kerry though,i don't think it likely but i wouldn't want to bet against them

They didnt get much to feel good about this afternoon, 1-24 to 1-7   . Second year in a row they have folded like that. As suspected Kerry are back in business.....
