according to the Solway Press website, Stranraer Athletic have withdrawn from the league and cups for the forthcoming season. think there is a quote from their chairman or someone saying that they hope to be back next season though. this is fairly dissappointing news as they always seemed to have a decent team on show.could it be said that the intro of Stranraer Reserves is one of the causes of this or down to the fact they could not get a new manager?

Think it might be hard for them as Wigtown,Newton,Str fc and maybe even Crretown will benefit from their withdrawl....its a shame cause noone looked forward to going down there to play.........just wondering how recently it was they won the league(within the last 5 years?) and now this.

Heard people saying theres only room fot one team in the town. I would disagree, adds a bit of spice and gives a team for others to play for.As knowan the reserves are allways going to get the pick of the bunch but Athletic could have easily picked up a few boys from there and from the under 17s at the end of the season. Just becuase the players were not good enough for the reserves does'nt mean they would not be good enough for the south league, more the fact the people at the club didn't see any chance of first team football for them. If Athletic had persevered just this season they could have ended up with a fairly healthy squad. I understand alot will have had to do with getting a manager too.
Was hearing today that Gordon Anderson and Alan Murdoch are going to the Reserves and one of the Carnachons as a coach for the under 17s.

Pity. Stranraer Athletic were a good side. I'd understand if they couldn't fulfill fixtures or had no money or whatever. But they seemed to be doing well. Maybe behind the scenes it wasn't so good.

Lets hope they are back next year and dont go out of business like Tarff remember they said they were only taking a season out and we never saw them again

The loss of Sanny was huge and seemingly insurmountable but there always appeared to be enough interest to keep them going, obviously not. I Would have thought there was enough good football minded guys in the town to at least give running them a shot. As a Stranraer man living away you only get snippets but the way it was started from scratch and the success they achieved in such a small time period makes their demise even sadder and I agree with an earlier poster that Stranraer is big enough for a second team but if someone won't take over then it won't happen. SFC to a certain extent has the same problem everyone is an expert and a master tactician but ask for coaches or committee members and all of a sudden everyone is far to busy.

You are obviously jealous of the success they had without paying the players and your glad you wont need to go down to London Rd and get humped this season we should be trying to save teams from this so lets hope your team can stay a float and go to Stair park and get humped even more as they seem to be picking up the best of the players

Did anyone think about approaching Bobby Mckie or big Harry Rogers i know Harry is busy but I'm sure he still has a keen interest in football him and Bobby could drum up a decent side I'm sure and with Harry's business connections they would have ready made sponsors

The pitch doesn't belong to the school, anyway would say it's one of the better pitches in the league during the first half of the season. Maybe gets a bit over used with school football and other local teams using it sometimes three and four games a weekend on it. Think they have as good facilities as anyone in the league.

Athletic had one of the best pitches in the league. How many games were ever called off there, compared to anywhere else ? It doesnt matter who owned the changing rooms, the club would pay for the facilities for the benefit of everyone using them.
