When we talking about ziggs ball, its many a year since NEWTON had whole town watching them and certainly with exception of last 3 years team has always had locals in side( maybe only 2 or3,way back in the fifties, but always there).Largest crowd in last 25 years or so was either centenary game against Ayr united first team or friendly against Rangers when over half players were from Newton at both games

OAP Ultras? Saints had one playing centre-half for them last year.
Saints is always a good place to go, especially if you're watching Threave play them. The old rivalries come back.
I wouldn't say it is hostile. I'd say there are a lot of people who shout a lot of rubbish, but it certainly isn't like playing away to Fenerbahce, more like playing away to the Faroe Islands.

NOT my management duo or my crowd ,only been to Blairmount twice in God knows how long and was not supporting Newton and will not until there is a decent committee(cant think of any of them who have played even at south level unless struggling to put ateam of eleven out) and you could save Stranraer Ath if you take even half the 28 players from Stranraer and district Newton fielded last season

Is it necessary to have played at a decent level in order to be a committee member - I wouldn't have thought so.

Yes thats probably true but what position would that leave Newton Stewart? I would suggest it would be either of these two scenerios :-
1/ Newton wouldn't have a team and it would be Newton instead of Stranraer Athletic packing in.
2/ The best players in Newton and surrounding area would still continue to trot of to Creetown and Wigtown. Probably because of financial incentives and things that would be best consigned to history. Newton would then be back to fielding a team of players which couldn't get a game for their preferred choices and end up rooted at the bottom of the league once again.
Am disappointed that you continue to make these digs. The reasons that the team is Stranraer based have been explained to you already and you conceded that it wasn't really our fault. As before the door is still open to any home based players of the required standard to come along. If those good enough continue to decide to play elsewhere we need to utilise our contacts to get the best team on the park we can. I would welcome the day that there is more of a local flavour to the team and if anyone has any constructive ideas they would be considered.
Why don't you just concentrate on your own team who will undoubtedly have a lot more players from the cleyhole this year? - restricting opportunities for the promising young talent that I witnessed myself last year at the end of the season. For somebody who has only been at Blairmount twice lately you spend a lot of time talking about Newton Stewart Fc.

Point i made about committee playing level i concede is nonsense(but i still think new blood would benefit the club),.Point about Stranraer Ath was meant to be tongue in cheek meaning a player shortage cant be the problem as Newton had used a fair sized squad from the town.I have no idea what reason Athletic have for asking for year out but i do hope we see them return after this period .Work all day Saturday so cant attend any matches and when i get rare chance(of saturday off) i go to watch my team who play in the Championship down south.Spend a lot of time talking about Newton because i will have played more games for them than any of the present players and after all it is my hometown.

A player shortage can still be a problem because no matter how many players we have played from the town it doesnt automatically make them available to Stranraer Athletic. These boys appear to enjoy playing for Newton and even when Athletic have shown an interest they have decided to stay put. Says a lot for how far the club have come.
You do seem to have an unhealthy obsession with Newton or a massive grudge. Being from the area such an interest could be a positive thing but everytime the club is mentioned you have to appear with the same repetitive points. Somebody comes on and praises that we are a much better team than previously and you feel the need to make the same old comments. Give it a rest cause it got boring a long time ago. Come back on with you have a solution or when you can tell us one player from Newton who would be willing to play for us and is doing a good job for a team higher than us in the league. Its not easy attracting players, in fact I remember when we were short of a goalkeeper one time and we approached him to play and he point blank refused. Do you know him???
You might say that you dont have a team but not long ago you were on here going on about Wigtown- making comments about how soon there will be a team of local players. Wigtown were really poor at the start of the year but fair enough to Micky and the young boys they cam,e on leaps and bounds near the end of the season. In fact I thought they were really impressive in forward areas. The point is that will these same boys be in the starting line up come the 1st game of the season. Already heard of around 5 players from Stranraer (shock, horror) who are rumoured to be going there and a few more from other areas. Couple of big names in forward positions who wont be sitting on the bench Im sure if its true. So your boasts of the young local players might have fell a bit flat because believe it or not football is about winning and Im sure Micky will do what it takes to make sure they wont be in the bottom few again next year.
Glad to hear you follow a side in the English Championship, how they getting on? Suppose you wont be too concerned with that though, just as long as none of there players stay outside a 2 mile radius of the ground
If you have anything constructive to say why dont you not bore everybody on here with this (as Im sure Im doing at the moment) and private mail me, Im more than willing to meet up to discuss player/ideas that could move the club forward and improve the reputation of the club in the local community. If I dont hear from you Im guessin we will have to just keep doing what any manager does- trying to field the best possible side and continue the improvement we have shown in the last few years.
