after playing and watching south football for a number of years,i feel there is a distinct lack of characters anymore gone are the days of pa broon n ding at dbt,winker n doc threave,big ziggy n nellie mcgill max.high,big sibs annan,alla mccutcheon wigtown,ikey mclaughlin saints,woody blackwood,etc etc,every team had them. does anyone agree?or have i missed any legends?

No disrespect "ziggs ball" but these lot have nothing on an ex Newton Stewart player who has a EUROPEAN CUP WINNERS CUP winners medal among many other major honours in the game.Do you know who ?

Cant remember guys name but if i remember right he was serving time at penningham prison at time.....David Taylor I think was maybe his name.

DAVE SMITH(who was man of the match in E.C.W.C. final). Davie TAYLOR was captain of Newton when they last won the league in 1988.

quite right and creetown beat newton with him in the team to win challenge cup 1982 i think. he was in penninghamme prison at the time
