It is, but it holds no reference to Rangers fans physically dragging a train driver out of his cab..

Nope, that's because it is from an outside railway forum, not the internal interweb. I have asked if anyone can supply that report and if I get it you'll be first to know.

Well that certainly would make interesting reading, especially if it was for internal use.

Rangers in Manchester: driver nearly pulled from his cab
by Grendel1970 on Thu May 15, 2008 14:08

I heard that Rangers 'fans' attempted to pull a Driver from his cab last night in manchester.
The Control Log mentions it, as does the Connect forum/portal.

Can anyone cut and paste the details? These are my principles, if you don't like them.....I have others!

Wouldn't have happened if our police where armed.

They probably did haul someone out the cab, they had us sitting on a packed train for an hour before someone told us the driver 'bailed' and we could sleep on it until 6am until the next one.

So we sat on it, then at 3am the GMP came round and said get off.

Piccadilly was strewn with bodies of folk sleeping on the floor and in lifts. They shut everything down so you couldn't even get something to eat.

Tory deputy fuckwit forced to alter statement

But after viewing the CCTV images, Mr Fraser issued a statement in which he said the situation was more serious than first suspected.

"The attacks on police officers and paramedics are deplorable and have to be condemned without reservation," he said.

Quelle surprise.

Goes back to my earlier comments concerning the fact the fuckwit clearly wasn't there and was commenting with zero knowledge of what actually happened.

I thought he was in bother when the BBC website said "Scottish Conservatives have said..." whereas it was in fact a dick with a rosette.

Honestly, i don't blame the driver for "bailing" considering what had happened ! Also, no wonder they shut the whole place down, to stop the neanderthals from causing any more damage !

While I'm not defending the Rangers fans involved, does anyone know how many Chelsea/other English team fans were there?

As it was Manchester there were no Man Utd fans there.
They all live in Surrey.

I haven't been able to bring myself to look at the Retard today, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they were peddling that.

Clearly serious problemns but there's an awful lot of knee jerk reaction going on.

I'm no apologist for Rangers fans and god knows there was enough stereotypical ones on telly last night and today (though surely someone has to point out the irony in the other half of the bigot brothers trying to take the moral high ground) but 30 years of follwoing football in England and Scotland has taught me to be highly cynical of the police at such events. It's amazing that the only film they seem able to release shows a polis being attacked - no danger of them releasing any baton charges.

Told by a mate who lives down in Manchester that the word going round the folk in the know is that the police pulled the plug on the big screen due to fears over a crush.

Also my mate who was down there and caught up in the riots said everything seemed calk till he turned a corner and seen a stand off, Rangers fans trying to get out the way but the police stil charged whacking everything in sight.

The police have alot to answer for as do the city of manchester council. The planning for this was shocking. To set up three areas which were all in the city centre and constricted was a joke to start with. They knew that up to 150k fans would come down and they didn't plan for it. They should have had it in large parks that aren't enclosed and had more than just 3 zones.

Rangers fans (if i could call them fans based on last night) should have a right good look at themselves. I'm not going to sit here and say it was just firms looking for trouble. It wasn't there were some drunken Rangers fans participating too but i will say if you look at the footage, its pretty hard to spot a Rangers top in amongst those running at the police.

Although I agree that the Police and the Council could have organised and handled things a lot better, the bits and pieces that Ive seen on here have lots of Rangers fans in Rangers tops! Yes, the organisation seems to have bordered on the farcical, but that doesnt excuse the riots and the embarrasing behaviour of a load of pissed up weegies.

For my journalism class I had to get video footage of fans reactions to the rioting. Went to Glasgow central, and interviewed fans when they got off the train.

Some claimed it was heavy handed policemen, one claimed it was a group of Celtic fans behind it all and it varied from there.

A well spoken Mancunian came over to the camera and said "I hope you report on what they've done to our city. It's a disgrace and we never want them back again. Absolute animals."

Another drunk rangers fan mooned at us. Great fun.

I heard a few Chelsea boys in the station boasting about their 'firm' wearing Stone Island jackets. They looked like total fuckwits.

The coppers didn't help the situation though, I heard that the screen was put off for health and safety in case Ramgers scored, but folk already were well oiled and thought it was them being fucked around with because the GMP never wanted them there in the first place (especialy the muppets).

If it was put off in case Rangers scored, why did they have technicians trying to fix it? Why weren\'t the other screens switched off?

Yes i have, hence why i just said "After looking at the footage" If you want to look at it again, the majorty all have plain clothes on. I'm no saying at all that there aren't Rangers tops on show, of course there are but when you look at the footage the majority are in plain clothes.

I'm not going to get caught up in this whole arguement. I can't be arsed with it as half the folk on here have one opinion and will stick to it and there is no seeing two sides of an argument on an OF debate. Its childish and pathetic people pre judged assesments on Rangers and Celtic fans, their inability to see two sides and think about what they are talking about is embarrseing and half the reason this place over the past year had turned into a farce.

I've already expressed my opinion on our fans on other threads before and its not a great assesment. Thing is people have to understand, people dont become hooligans or thugs through following a football team. They become thugs and neds because of the state of this country. The society we live in is full of shite and scum who should never be allowed to have kids, football is the only thing they have for most of them apart from their drink and drugs and to follow a team is somtimes the only way of expressing themselves they have and sadly they bring their shite veiw on life and way of living into that club. Until the government actually seriously tackle unemplyment and the way of life it'll always be about, whether at the football, on the streets on a saturday night or at your local shopping centre.

A Man City fan writes...

Quote

I work on Pic Station and Matty is dead right. Not sure who said they were there and its not true, well I'm sorry it's all true. At one point all Trans Penine Staff completely withdrew from the station except for those that had a personal escort from the British Transport Police. This because a driver was dragged from his cab and assaulted and there was up to 100 people running amock over the tracks

The roller shutter in the Satellite lounge was kicked down and destroyed causing thousands of pounds worth of damage, trains that were supposed to be stopping on the outer platforms 13/14 to take these people home simply carried on through, refusing to stop. When rail workers decide they aint working they simply don't work, one of the few groups of workers in the country that still have a strong union.

TAG units had to be placed at the entrances to restore some order. The toilets are completely wrecked, urine and puke are everywhere in the station or I should say they were this morning (I started at 3 this morning)
The cleaners have worked wonders throughout the day to restore some sense of normality but seriously the stench of urine around the borders of the station is overpowering.

Regarding the comparative lack of arrests, we on the station know the B.T.P lads pretty well and the word had come down from above to them and G.M.P to be tolerant, and make allowances for the visitors in a bid to make them welcome, turning a bling eye to anti social behaviour etc

On top of this thousands upon thousands of people who had not arrived by train arrived and immediately declared themselves as penniless, apparently all the victims of robbery. They then expected neigh demanded free travel home. These people were still hanging round the station at midday expecting free travel but managing to continually replenish their beer supplies.

Its not just about the screen going off and what happened its about their whole behaviour which was pretty much sub human

Your guess is as good as mine.

Folk were on the statues and the trees and everything in Piccadilly, they ought to have fenced them off, but didn't.

I don't think they had a clue what was going to hit them. With piss poor excuses like 'health and safety' and telling you about screens a mile away 10 mins before kick off it was always going to end badly.

How they managed to put up a screen in the space of 20 mins at the velodrome after spending ages trying to fix another is beyond me. The police and council fucked this up big time. Couldn't they have seen the numbers there on the tuesdaay night and realised they had underestimated the amount coming and set up the velodrome screen aswell to lighten the load on the other fanzones?

Manchester will struggle to host another major footballing or even sporting event in the future because of this. Its becoming more obvious how much the council and police underestimated the support coming down.
