Ithink most teams will have a dig at refs . Of course refs make mistakes and its a difficult job and anyone who says its not obviously hasnt tried it.Try having a game without one (be utter chaos).

you really dont get it i was at the game and you were beat fair and square now lets draw an end to this and give other teams supporters have their say i've heard every ref in the south called a cheat but the thing is none are they make mistakes but i'm convinced that they are honest mistakes just like our players make them

I would like to say being a referee is a very hard job, would like to see anyone try and do it. At the end of the day there human and they make mistakes just like anyone else in this world.

Regardless of the league and the quality of the referees, they always get a hard time and criticism. If they have a good game no-one talks about them. If they have a bad one then everone is on their backs. BUT they must know that before they decide to take up refereeing, so there you go.
The south of scotland league is a poor league in the grand scheme of things, and will not get decent referees. We have to accept that. I for one think it is ridiculous that refs are expected to make decisions without linesmen with them. Crazy.
Anyway, it has to be said that some Saints fans do seem to come on this forum and blame the ref, the weather, the lack of daylight, the pitch, the bulb in the floodlight etc for some poor performances. To those of you not from Kirkcudbright, I must tell you that it is normal and is not a recent thing. Been happening for years.

MARTIN SPROULE IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST REFEREE WE HAVE IN THIS AREA SINCE BARRY REID WILL BE A SHAME TO SEE HIM LEAVE SOS FOOTBALL BECAUSE HE IS CONSTANTLY BRANDED A CHEAT BY A LOSING TEAM

Sproul had to be named and shamed last night McGuffie showed a stanard refs should be trying to achieve well done and must say threave totaly deserved victory still a top team and well done to crichton we do not complain when beat fair and square!
you obviously have personal issues with sproule and should take it up with him instead of on here. you prob liked McGuffie because he doesn't like confrontation and allows thugs to kick everything that moves but at last you come on and admitt you just aren't good enough to compete with the top teams. McCrossan will be forming the tides inn again he might win something then have a nice day now

I wouldn't say that there is any paranoia where Saints and Martin Sproule are concerned, but I think that the amount of abuse that referees get from the sidelines may, sometimes, influence decisions that could be described as contentious.
Referees do the job to the best of their ability and they will make mistake, however in the past few weeks it some of the desicions given can only be described as puzzling. Some referees are better than others and are prepared to let the game flow, as Donald McGuffie did last night although he could've punished both teams at several points in the game, but I feel some are happy to be the centre of attention and I feel that's what causes problems.
Another thing I would like to add is the use of the word cheat. Having heard Stuart Dougal wax lyrical on Off The Ball a few weeks back, when asked the worst thing a player can call a referee he replied that it was to be called a cheat. It doesn't do anyone any favours to use the word cheat when it is a reviled word to the match officials. Probably worse when proceeded by the word F*cking.
