some guy on the radio the other day who supposedly was in the know with these sorts of things said that he thinks that we should allow the giant panda to die out, we have been artificially selecting the erm...gene pattern, you know breeding loads of big, cute, cuddly ones but they don't do very well in the wild on their own, so maybe he says we should just let them die out. to help you make up your mind here is a picture of one -

the giant panda is a stupid animal which has failed to evolve past eating a tone of bamboo per day and sleeping, plus is extremely picky about who it shags.
they look pretty cute though.

Bravo sir...fancy joining me on my annual panda cull....I just wander about the bamboo groves smashing the lazy fat b*****ds on the head...I don't even bother taking their pelts, the useless fuckers that they are.

see to me that sounds pretty civilised as far as the animal kingdom goes. maybe they're just a bit more refined.

best thing a panda ever did was wipe his arse with a falkirk top, but then the polis made a complaint against him and he got the sack.

what I mean is a dog is like wow we're the same species let's get it on, sometimes even not with some dogs, whereas a panda is more like but do you vote liberal ? what do your parents do ? were you looking at that giraffe in the enclosure earlier you were weren't you ?

I'd agree that their antipathy to procreation, coupled with the fact that their diet is almost entirely composed of something with negligable nutritional value, means that the panda is one of natures great idiots.
However, there just so damned adorable and that it is the most convincing argument there is for their protection.

Giant pandas are from China. The Japanese would probably eat them served raw with a side order of raw halibut.
