Not much use for the day trip but the thing I would recommend most from my trips to Dublin is a touristy thing called The Literary Pub Crawl. It's run by a few actors from the city who take you round the pubs of the city and act out funny bits from Beckett and the likes, and tell you anecdotes about the city and the pubs you're drinking in. It's a good laugh, good way to hear about the history and the culture and get pished at the same time. Done it 2 or 3 times and it was always quite cheap (probably about a fiver or so 5 years ago).

Also last time I went we did the Jameson's distillery tour, and it contains an absolutely shocking but hilarious propaganda film slagging off Scottish whisky as inferior to the magical Irish stuff

I paid 5 Euros for a pint in the Temle Bar area at St Paddys day and 7.50E for a spirit and juice. Not the cheapest of places, but I've been there 6 times for a reason- its a fantastic place IMO.
PS.Norway was more expensive.

Aye, my mate argued with the tour guide about this.

Aye, the Jamesons tour was quite funny, but good at the same time, get a good few halfs at the end if you volunteer...
I thoroughly enjoyed the bus tour, hopped on and hopped off at will, was brilliant. The drinks are very pricey I found and also found that the city centre was more like walking down Warsaw than Dublin, but who cares, was a great experience, even if the "rod to god" is the most pointless thing ever.

Do a ground tour of Croke Park. When we went it was quality. Then have a look in the GAA museum afterwards. It was better than the National Football Museum at Preston.
